hey, Rose...I live in Portland but my family is a Coast family..ever wonder why Oregonians call it the Coast and not the Beach? We had a house at Road'sEnd but I am so oldI can't remember the name of the famous mystery writer that live down the road or the recent writer who described real life in Depoe Bay so well I thought she knew my cousins. I will try to remember the name of that book or maybe you know it. It would make a good trip to the Oregon Coast for reader/travelers on this list.

Rose..I had a bolt of lightning recall. the writer who lived at Road's End was M. K. Wren and the series she wrote was the Conan Flagg Mysteries, set in the Lincoln Book Shop, a real place. Everyone called it LBS and there was nothing I liked better than to scrounge around in one of the attic rooms, find a book and sit down to read.
Hi KathrynHehe the reason we call it the coast and not the beach is that the beach gives the impression of warmth and calm whereas the coast is cooler, windy and filled with beautiful sights and sounds that one experiences in warm clothing...definitely not swimsuits.
At the moment I don't know but now my curiosity is peaked so I will have an answer soon. Portland is a great place to visit; lots to see and do. Have a great night.
I'm glad you remembered and I think vaguely do also. I love to scrounge around in amongst the books...Smith Family Bookstore is a fav of mine for a great find.

The book set in Depoe Bay (sort of) is Going to Bend: by Diane Hammond . She 's written about five "real oregon " books..have you read her.. where is Smith Family Book Store? Perfect description of why we call it the Coast. I always say that my Southern California surfer husband took off to the beach on his first visit to Road's End with his towel, wearing his suit. We laughed, he was back in 5 minutes.
Kathryn I haven't figured out how to do the quote thing yet but I'm sure I'll get it soon. No I haven't read her books but I will now.
There's a smiths in Portland and in Eugene; I don't know about online. I bet your husband was mighty cold hehe I've seen many a person do the same hehe.

Thank you Diane. Yes, the Oregon coast like all of the state is beautiful and I have lived here nearly 20 years but I was born and raised in "the track capital of the world" Eugene Oregon....home of Steve Prefontaine and the Oregon Ducks. heheAs you probably read, Kathryn an I were discussing a few authors and their books which would be great additions to the list for Oregon. I checked with the state online library and they are available here so may be elsewhere.
From my device I can't do the highlighting and author/book references as we should so please forgive me.
M.K. Wren wrote the Conan Flagg mysteries and there are (as far as I can tell) 4 books; and after I saw the cover I do remember my dad reading them. The library only has them in audio format which is great though in WMA not Mp3....oh well I'll have to use the computer.
Diane Hammond wrote 5 books only one of which is shown in audio and they are:
"Going to Bend"
"Seeing Stars"
"Hannah's Dream"
"Homesick Creek"
"Friday's Harbor"
For some reason I can't scroll in this commemt box on the nook but here are the titles for M.K. Wren:
"curiosity didn't kill the cat"
"a multitude of sins"
"seasons of death"
"oh bury me not"
If this isn't on the right thread please feel free to move it wherever it should be. After my discussion last night with Kathryn I couldn't sleep until I checked on these. Its a great find. have a great day.

I am so old I held the string for milers like Roscoe Divine to break when they ran the mile. I worshiped Jim Ryan from Kansas who ran the mile in Oregon a few times. I was BEFORE Pre when they didn't let girls do sports. I just finished reading Alberto Salazar's biography of his running history and how he built Oregon Track to what it is today. (Check my reading list) we should add that to books about Oregon too but I haven't figured out how to or where to do that yet. Bill Bowerman was still alive in my time and Phil Knight was in my Sunday School.

All the best,

Then I uploaded to "My Drive" at google and created a google fusion map. It makes red dots, not colors, sadly. But I'll bet there are some nifty YouTube videos available about how to make super cool maps in Fusion. Melissa

Hi! My name is Kristen and I look forward to getting some suggestions on new books, old books and in-between books that I never got around to checking out here. Part of why I'm getting more active on Good Reads is because I just started a book club podcast with my brother, and I have to make sure to stay on top of what's out there a little better! If you'd like to check it out you can here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/b...
The most recent book we cover is Life After Life by Kate Atkinson, which is set from World War I through World War II in Britain, so if you've read it please feel free to listen! We go on tangents and get off topic just as I'd imagine a "real" book club does, but we still talk plenty about our likes and dislikes so it should be fun and maybe help you notice things you hadn't before. Thanks, look forward to hanging around :)

Hi, Manda! So pleased to have you here! Happy reading!
I'm a little late in posting an introduction. I'm Janice from the SF Bay Area and am so pleased to be part of this great group of world readers. I am participating in a similar effort "International Reads" which isn't connected on Goodreads. I've read books from 28 countries so far, and am finding the need to get some organization to the reading, so the trekking, frequent flyer, etc., challenges are very useful to me.
