I also see the two books are already on that list! Yay!
Edit:
OK, I now see it is in the Latin American list. But you know, it should be in the Caribbean. Though it is in SOuth America, it was a British colony and in every way except geography it belongs to the Caribbean: language, culture, ethnicity, political, economical. We have no connection to our Latin neighbours!

I separated them by geography. I do realize that Guyana, as well as Suriname & French Guiana, are much more similar culturally to the Caribbean, but I did not want to split continental South America.

Welcome, Maira! I'm happy to have you here with us and very happy that the group has inspired your reading!

I'm Jerry, a 15 year old reader currently living in a farm in New South Wales, Australia! I'm currently reading Divergent, and have always been a fan of high/epic fantasy series like The Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit, the Harry Potter series, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flammel etc. etc. (: I'm looking to expand my literature horizons because I've only been exposed to a few genres. I'm hoping that this group can help take me to new places! I'd love to read about anywhere, because travelling is one of those things I truly enjoy (: Thanks folks

Hi, Jerry! My daughter just finished Divergent and loved it. She is reading Insurgent now and likes it even more. Kudos to you for wanting to expand your reading horizons at such a young age! Hopefully you'll find many new places here to travel to in books.

Welcome to the group, Selma! Glad to have you here with us!

Welcome, Jocelyne!

Welcome, Christine!

The problem is that Guyanese writers and readers, or those interested in Guyana and looking for books from there, would never look for it under Latin America. There is really no geographical connection to the rest iof the continent (no roads etc), and placing it there does give the wrong impression ... it's just not a Latin country, and its books reflect that! It's literature is always listed as Caribbean, rather than Latin American.

I totally understand, Sharon. I was not aware of how cut off it was from the rest of continental South America. As a compromise, I have listed Guyana under both Caribbean and Latin America.

Wow that is low of Amazon, I'm not going to buy any books from them anymore. Maybe if people boycott them they might get the message but unfortunately I don't think they will.

It seems to me like a lot of places already!

I just joined the group and am also an author of two travelogues. My newest book is on Pakistan. It's about my experience living and traveling in my native country two decades after..."
Welcome, Maliha. I am glad you wrote about Pakistan; not too many people travel there, myself included.

I joined the group to enjoy the travels with friends:). There is so much of this world I have not seen, but been to through reading and research. I love to read and look forward to expanding my normal selections with this group.
I am a mother of 3 and wife to one. We have a busy house, and I enjoy unwinding with a good book.
I just purchased " A Monster Calls" for the April read. Looking forward sharing with you all.

Welcome, Lit Bug! Those are all my favorite things!

Lit Bug,
You can choose any book that appeals to you. I have started book lists for every country of the world. You can find them on the lower half of the group's home page. The group bookshelf is also arranged by country. If you click on "View Activity" on the right hand side of each book listing, you can see what other group members thought of the book. You can access the bookshelf here: http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

THank you Diane. I am glad Lit Bug popped the question because I was looking for it myself.

I'm Linda S. I live in Harrisburg PA most of the time, but spend a week a month in Portland ME. I love to read and to travel. And I love to talk about books and travel! Thanks to Dee for link to this group on a discussion thread. I am looking forward to being an active member of the group!

Welcome to the group, Amanda! I saw you have already started a couple of the group's challenges. I look forward to seeing what faraway places your books take you. Glad to have you here with us.

Hi, Linda! Welcome to the group! I am from Maine originally and lived in Portland for a while. I really miss it. I have also spent the last two summers in northern PA. You live in two beautiful places.

I've been on GR for awhile and am active in several groups, but I was told about this one and I love the idea! I have studied abroad in Germany and Spain and spent time in Mexico, traveling to several other countries. I have family members from Paraguay, Germany, Puerto Rico.... etc, etc, and I love learning about other cultures, history and traditions. I've also lived in Washington (both east and west sides of the state), Kentucky, Nevada, Georgia and now I'm in Colorado, and each state is as unique as some countries. I don't have tons of time for reading right now, but will jump in whenever I get a chance. Looking forward to all the discussions.

Welcome, Alana!

I caught the travel bug in my early twenties when I accompanied a friend on a youth-hostelling adventure across Europe, and eventually ended up living on a Kibbutz in Israel. Later, as a University student, I had the opportunity to learn Arabic and carry out research in various countries in the Middle East ... and my Middle East adventures have continued to this day. My book, Rubbing Shoulders in Yemen, describes locations far off the beaten track ... places I’m sure most people would have never heard of, or would ever even consider visiting other than in a book. I look forward to discovering what people on this list have written or are reading. Life is an adventure, meant for learning about and appreciating diversity.

Welcome, Peter! You have had such interesting experiences. Glad to have you as part of the group!

I love the concept of this group. I'm always looking to explore new foreign authors and your forums are such a wonderful resource!
As other members in this topic, I love to travel. I'm Dutch, I've visted most of Europe, lived for a while in France and the US and hope to see much more of the world. For now, I content myself with travelling in books...

I lived for a while in New Hampshire and I had the opportunity to travel a bit in New England and go to New York. I also went on a road trip in the south-west (Vegas, the desert, California).
Both times were great! I met some wonderful people and the best thing about living in the US for a while is that you're able to form your own opinion on the country without the tv or other people telling you what it's like... We have so many prejudices about eachother on both sides of the big pond!

Wow, sounds like such an amazing experience. I would love to go to India.

I lived in Durham, on the campus of the university of New Hampshire, as I had the opportunity to study there.

And the food. The food! When visiting my brother in NYC I used to plan my days around restaurants I wished to eat at. Also Sanne, I hope you realize how lucky you are to do that road trip through the south-west."
I love Boston! I hope you have a nice time on your trip. And yes, I realise I'm extremely fortunate to be able to travel like I do. I've had some great opportunities from university to go abroad. Without that, I would not have been able to do it.
Travelling is addictive though! Once you get a taste for it, you'll have an itch to go and see the world once you're home again.

It was a great experience that I believe was captured well in the book Travelphan. You can read all about i..."
My grandparents lived there for about a year, quite some time before I was born (back in the 1950s or 1960s?). They had so many amazing stories to tell, lots of pictures, and brought back lots of beautiful handcrafts. Other than my grandfather almost dying of typhoid fever, they seemed to really enjoy their time there.

I agree with you that it is such a different experience to visit a country compared to actually living there. I feel the same way about almost every country I visit. Great to visit but would not want to live there, and that includes my own country of origin!
