Introductions

I guess I ought to introduce myself before I start posting.
My name is Carolina, I am expat Swede living in Melbourne, Australia.
I love travelling, but can't right now due to all sorts of reasons, so I'll have to stick to armchair travel for a while.
Looking forward to reading my way around the world!

Aloha, Carolina! Welcome to the group!
Hello, I'm Cody. I've lived in Michigan all (nearly 28 years) of my life, and have hardly traveled at all thus far. I've decided to make travel a priority as much as possible in the next few years. Between trips, I'd really like to read books set in or written in the places I'd like to visit.
Currently, we're planning a trip to Boston and Salem, MA in the fall, and I've just finished The Crucible and have started The House of the Seven Gables. Next winter, I'd like to go to Key West, and I've picked up a bit of Hemingway, including To Have and Have Not.
I'm hoping to find both places to go and books to read through this group. Feel free to add me as a friend, if you'd like.

Hi, I live in Arizona but I grew up in the Midwest. I'm looking forward to getting out of my comfort zone and reading books I would have never even considered and learning about all kinds of different places around the world.

I am so excited to jump in and participate!

Welcome to the group Anjanette! P.S. Cute dog in your profile pic! I love pugs!

Hi Cody, Welcome to the group! Hope you find many new books to read and discover new places to add to your travel list!

Welcome to the group, Manette!

Hi, Jenifer! I hope that one day you will get to travel in real life to many of your favorite book locations.

Thanks, Diane. With a pilot for a husband, you would think I travel all the time but when he is home the last thing he wants to do is travel. lol

I can totally relate. My ex-husband is a pilot.

Welcome, Katy! That is a very good book about the Panama Canal's history. I read it last year.

Welcome, Deborah! You have lived and been to some amazing places!

Welcome to the group, Heather! Nice to meet you, too!

And greetings from Finland. Hum, what to tell... well, I'm 28 years old, love speculative fiction over all other genres. Whenever I have time I travel, but lately that hasn't been very much. I did take a two month escape to China last year though. I live in Helsinki with a couple of roommates.
Glad to meet you all, and up for any book recommendations you might have.

Hi, Miika! Welcome to the group! Your two month escape to China must have been wonderful!

Hello, Lori! Another fellow Georgian! I briefly lived in Augusta as a child. What do you have to do as far as schooling and testing to become a travel agent? I have always wanted to do that as a sideline.

I also blog intermittently at cortneymatzwrites.wordpress.com - my own little traveling stories and tips. I hope to turn some of this into an Ebook this year.
Meanwhile, I have many more places to visit with you all! Can't wait to start our first book together.

Thanks Diane - there really isn't! It's a delightful combination, one I hope to explore much more in the months to come.

Im new to Goodreads and the group. My name is Phil Beswick, and i'm from England. I love to travel and have recently released my debut book 'Soaring with Eagles, Flying with Turkeys?' promoting purposeful travel and volunteering. I volunteered in 9 countries and walked the Camino de Santiago raising money for charity! I'm a carpenter by trade and have recently taken voluntary redundancy to allow me to once again combine a love of travel with helping others around the world! Best wishes Phil

Wow, Phil, what a great idea! Walking the Camino de Santiago sounds like an adventure! I have your book on my Amazon wish list.

I'm just new here on Goodreads. I live in Ghent, Belgium but currently looking out to go to somewhere else.
Right now I'm reading Roald Amundsen's Belgica Diary about the first scientific expedition to the antarctic. Nicely written by Hugo Decleir.
I'm keen to discover new books overhere!

Welcome to the group, Diego!

I go by Jalilah online. I am originally from California but moved to Berlin Germany. While living there I got the chance to travel extensively throughout Europe as well as the Middle East and North Africa. I married a Canadian and moved to Canada. Since settling down and having a family, I no longer travel as much. I look forward to being a part of this group.

Welcome, Jalilah! You've had a geographically busy life! Glad to have you as part of the group!

I just joined the group and am also an author of two travelogues. My newest book is on Pakistan. It's about my experience living and traveling in my native country two decades after I immigrated to the States. I'm based in Seattle, WA. Look forward to connecting and sharing ideas! Dizzy in Karachi: A Journey to Pakistan

Welcome, Mikela! Wow, we are already a quarter of the way through the year already. How time flies!
I am so envious of the fact that you lived in Belize! I want so badly to visit there! I hear it is one of the best places to dive. Maybe (hopefully) someday I'll find out...

Welcome, Maliha! Your book sounds very interesting. I have never lived in another country, so I can't really adequately compare. I have lived in other parts of this country as a child and have often wondered if they would be drastically changed from my childhood memories. I got to visit one of these places last year and was amazed at how much it had changed overall, but very relieved to see that a few of the landmarks I remembered were unchanged. I can't even imagine what your experiences were in traveling to your childhood home halfway around the world. I'm sure it all makes for a very interesting book.

Your book sounds great and I just downloaded it. I love the cover, too! I lived in India for two years and can't wait to immerse myself in the Central Asia culture again. Travel memoirs are my favorite reads and I also am the author of one (Here We Are & There We GO) if you are interested in checking it out. I am on goodreads and my author page is www.facebook.com/JillDobbeAuthor.
I am looking forward to reading your book!

I love the concept of this group...
I am from Queensland, Australia and although I am currently living in France, I am heading back to the UK for the summer then back home to good old Oz for good... Can't wait, this Northern Hemisphere weather is just too cold for me!
I am an avid reader of all sorts of genres but am finally living out the dream of writing and publishing my own work. I have spent the best part of a decade travelling the world as an overland tour leader and am now writing about those experiences in the form of humorous guides to group travel and overlanding - with plenty of real stories and funny anecdotes from the road.
Looking forward to meeting with fellow travel enthusiasts...

Welcome to the group, Kirsty!

I am from Munich, Germany, but I have lived in Denmark near Copenhagen most of my life. I'm on my last year of school before university. I love the mix of reading and travelling, since both seem to widen my perspectives of life. I'm looking forward to meet other readers, who also like to combine two of my favorite activities.

I was born in Guyana, SOuth America, but went to school in England for a few years.
When I was 19, I travelled around SOuth America for a year: Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia; I spent six months in Ecuador living in a commune!
Returned to Guyana, lived on a farm for a few months, then flew to the UK and travlled overland to India: Europe, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India. Lived in an Ashram for 18 months.
Met first husband in India, came to live in Germany to be with him, split up, lived in France for a year, return to Germany, finished education, nes husband and kids, England for 10 years, and now back in Germany.
I'm also an author; published by HarperCollins back in 1998-2004 you can probably find my goodreads author page if you click on my name.
My books are all out of print (except Sons of Gods, which is self published), so I won't bother posting them in the relevant sections (though I notice you have no books set in Guyana... hmmm, need to change that!). I hope to self-publish E-versions of my books soon.
I love reading books set in different parts of the world, just as I love writing books set in the countries I've lived in, especially India and Guyana.
I recently read and very much enjoyed the "Marriage Bureau" series by Farahad Zama, set in India. I'm always looking for new books.

Welcome, Felicia! Work and budget are two of my biggest obstacles to traveling, too. It is so nice that I can escape to faraway places within the pages of a book every day.
