Catherine Veritas | 8 comments My name is Catherine. I live in California, but Malta called me. I traveled there three times, enjoying Sicily as well. I am a new author and new to Goodreads and love the idea of traveling through reading. I'd love to connect with other Malta lovers.

Welcome, Catherine. How easy is it to get to the Tarxien temples from the cruise port?

message 603: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Veritas | 8 comments Thank you. It would be best to hire a driver. You could contact my wonderful tour guide, Pat Flores Martin at patfloresmartin@hotmail.com

Catherine Veritas | 8 comments To Diane,
I'd love guidance on adding my book to the bookshelf. I wanted to add to the Malta section but find it on the main list, looking silly, as I rated it myself. Any help for a newbie would be appreciated.

Hi, Catherine! Welcome! I am always excited to see new books about hard-to-find book destinations like Malta. I added your book to the bookshelf and the Malta thread.

Jessica (jessica_peter) Hi everyone, I'm Jessica from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and I'm new to the group. I live pretty simply and use most of my extra money for travelling. Though now that I'm back in school (doing my Master of Social Work), there isn't much extra at the moment! But I also read a lot of travel and "location heavy" books to make me learn about the places I can't visit, or haven't visited yet. :)

Welcome to the group, Jessica! I hope you are staying warm up there in Ontario!

To Osho:
Planning ahead might allow you to make reservations to see the Hypogeum, sister temple to Tarxien, carved three stories underground. Nothing else like it in the world!

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) Hello. I searched for a 'world' group since I am just now having the funnest possible time with The Adventures of Sayf Ben Dhi Yazan: An Arab Folk Epic -- from the Mamluk age -- and needed a home to talk about it. I come here and see you have a group read on of Jack Weatherford's Mongol Queens. I'm a big fan of Jack Weatherford.

message 613: by Karie (new)

Karie Hello All, Just found your group and love, love it. My passions are travel and books...what a great combo. Went to Denmark in December and did my first solo trip to Iceland in September. I always think the more I travel the less I will want to to do it, turns out just the opposite is true. Look forward to reading some good books.

Max Norton (Max_Norton) | 5 comments Hi I'm Max Norton and I've recently returned to the USA after spending 15 years working across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Pacific. I'm attempting to settle down (tried and failed before), and also working on some material based on my experiences. Glad I've found this interesting-looking group.

message 616: by Annie (new)

Annie | 201 comments Hi everybody,
My name is Annie, and I live just outside Portland, Oregon. I grew up in Sweden, have a German husband and two tri-lingual kids. I love travel and novels, and leaning about new places and cultures through literature. Most of my travels involved back-packing around Europe as a teenager, and I've never been to Asia, Africa or South America. I'm looking forward to exploring new countries in this literary trip around the world!

Hi, Max! You have lived in a lot of exotic localities and I'll bet you have had some great adventures. It definitely can't be easy to settle down after all that!
I wish you much luck in your attempt to do so. Glad to have you in the group!

Welcome to the group, Annie! You and your husband must have some great experiences to share with your kids about growing up and traveling in Europe. It is wonderful that you have raised your children to speak your native languages. I grew up in a bilingual household, but English was the only language spoken to me. Trying to go back and learn another language as an adult is much harder!

Andrea, look at the comment box below. Above the box you will see a link that says "add book/author". Click on the link and a new box will appear. Type the title of the book in and hit the "search" button. Find your book in the drop-down menu and hit the "add" button. Your book's link should now be embedded in your comment.

message 621: by Sherah (new)

Sherah | 2 comments Hi, I'm Sherah and I am American, but I have spent the last 13 years outside of the US. I started out in Israel and then married my husband, who is South African but was raised in Israel. We now live in Germany (hopefully temporarily) and have been here for 3 years. I've always loved history books and historical fiction and obviously I like to travel and get to know new cultures, so I was really excited to join this group. I would love to join one of the challenges, but I don't get that much time to read with 4 kids, so I think I the circumnatigator challenge is the way to go for me. Looking forward to being a part of the group.

Hi, Sherah! Welcome to the group! You have truly been all over the world, and to so many culturally different places. What a great experience that must be. I would love to hear about some of the favorite books you have read from the countries you have lived or traveled to. I am happy to have you as part of the group!

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) (themis-athena) | 13 comments Hello all,

I'm German, have been traveling "by book" for many years and have also been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to live outside Germany for a number of years (in various parts of the U.S., with extended stints in Paris in between). I'm looking forward to finding books set in countries I have not yet visited -- either in person or in print --, recording my "finds" here, and deepening my acquaintance with the literature of countries I have already visited in the past.

I plan on doing the U.S. state challenge as well as the World challenge, neither in any particular order. Look forward to it again.

message 637: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (raggamuffin) Hello everybody!

Nicky from Belgium checking in!

Being at the heart of Europe has many advantages (besides chocolate :3 ), especially travel-wise. I love to have great cities such as London, Paris, Amsterdam, etc relatively nearby.
On top of that, my crazy country, being as little as it is, just could not decide on one main language and instead "chose" to have 3. So I'm very blessed to be exposed to many different influences at a young age.
Over the past 29 years I've developed a taste for languages and culture, which peaked during my years at uni, since I had the luminous (*ahem*) idea to study Japanese.
I love meeting people from all over the world and I love visiting and discovering new places and cultures both in real life and through books.

Looking forward to travelling with you!

This is my first group, so if I'm doing it all wrong, don't hesitate to let me know.
