Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9516 comments Okay, liked the book and would like to see the movie as much as the next fan, but I've had enough of the trailer in the box on the right hand side of the page. Enough already!

So true. My daughter-in-law and I shared the book and loved it.
Will be seeing the movie with a friend and we both keep saying the same thing about the trailer. Enough already!

Melodie (melodieco) | 3679 comments I have the book, but haven't read it and am also tired of the trailer. I keep putting off reading the book because if I don't like it I'm going to feel guilty about it. It's definitely not the usual type of book I read.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9516 comments Mel, my best friend didn't like it at all, I think less bec of the style of the book than bec of what she perceived as the naivete and the recklessness with which the MC approached a project that could jeopardize people's lives. I could see her point. No need to feel guilty if you don't like it, it doesn't mean anything about anything.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16993 comments The trailer here on Goodreads at the top of the home page that expands is especially annoying.
My DD and I planned for months to see the movie The Help yesterday and arrived due to other circumstances, too late to the box office to assure we wouldn't be sitting in the very front of the theater which would give both of us a headache and neck strain. We left disappointed and we have decided on a different time to try again, I do look forward to the movie and think the crowded theater may have been in part due to a successful (and almost overkill in the case of this site) ad campaign.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9516 comments Yes, Ann, I would have avoided that front row thing as well. Makes for a miserable viewing experience.

I toyed with the idea of going on Saturday but figured it would be mobbed at the first (and therefore discounted) show of the day, when I could go, so I decided to wait. Maybe next weekend.

Dan in AZ | 2960 comments For some reason this trailer doesn't appear on my computer. Only after reading this thread did i even notice the box ad for the movie. (No doubt "they" have some other annoying thing planned for me).

Today, I picked up the pb of The Help at Target for $10.00. I've been wanting to read this book for over a year now. My library, as of Friday, has 4 copies with 33 holds on it. Books can be checked out for 3 weeks. When I saw the sales brochure over the weekend, I grabbed the book.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16993 comments It looks like we are going to try to see the movie tomorrow night. Surely Tuesday night isn't going to be a full theater. ;)

message 11: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9516 comments No, probably not. Monday and Tuesday nights are my faves to go to the movies, low turnout nights.

Dawn | 1372 comments LOL...Tuesday's are free movie days here in NJ if one is an Optimum cable customer, so they are the busiest days. I took advantage, and saw The Help today (for free) and thought the movie was great. If you liked the book, I don't think you'll be disappointed, which is often unusual with most books to movies.

message 13: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16993 comments I saw The Help tonight too, Dawn (though not for free, ... not even close!)
I loved it and so did DD. we needed a couple of tissues each. There was a pretty good crowd watching it. I felt like the film was true to the book and the cinematic changes helped it translate to the screen.

Donnajo | 4355 comments I'm still trying to get though the book. it doesn't help that it's on the nook or that I have other books going at the same time. I was hoping to go to the library in the the next town's book group which is doing it. don't think it's going to happen between the expected weather (which hopefully will be over by then) and not finishing it yet.
yet, because of the weather I get to stay home this weekend so maybe I'll get alot of reading done.

Donnajo | 4355 comments thanks, I'm tired of watching the news and reports. it only scares you more. my sister & bil are up here so I feel better and she talked to some of the neighbor's and mostly everyone will be gone someplace. She has everyone's numbers so hey can get in contact on monday to see if anyone went back yet and how it is and they already had manitory evactuation. One neighbor has to stay until noon tomorrow she's works at curves and they are opening I said she should tell them forget about it. her friend is going down after work today to help put stuff inside. yeah right the parkway as of 6 I believe is not letting people go south down there. I don't know if it starts at our exit or before. the governor said in his talk before that she sees people are still on the beaches he told them to get their a**** off and get out of the area. I couldn't believe he said that. they are talking about the compete on the regular news even. my sister & bil when they left today they went onto the entrance of the parkway and it was a parking lot and went off the next one before getting on and went the back way. which I've gone with them driving in the past but probably couldn't do it on my own. the only thing I'm worried about is the big trees behind and to the side of my building. As long as I can get online I'll try and keep in contact. This usually starts a big week at the shore for vacationers. so hopefully everyone will keep safe and stay at home. feel sorry for people that would be renting. Usually the houses go from saturday to saturday.

hope too! i agree with DJ, the news just makes you more nervous! we live across the river from a marina and there has been a steady stream of boats coming in and being hauled. directly across from us are 4 huge boats- each well over 100'. one is at the end of the dock, obliterating the ones behind it and making the one next to it look small. http://www.superyachts.com/yacht-char... and http://www.jameslist.com/advert/30258...

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9516 comments My friend thnks that the media is hyping this hurricane up in the Boston area. I went in to CostCo to get some flashlights (I'm not overreacting, no, not me) and people were leaving there with carts of water and other stuff. It will be funny if we just get a little drizzle (snicker).

Donnajo | 4355 comments it's charged to a Category 1 but they said it's still going to be bad and can change again. I'm going out with my sister & bil for breakfast after they pull weeds. so at least I'll get out for awhile.
it's kind of dark and gloomy here so far. as for the yachts my bil helped his friend tie down his boat it's a small thing and the friend usually borrows someones trailer to get it out but he didn't. my sister said most of the bigger ones (fishing etc) are out already but said they will all probably be put in again afterwards because the fishing season will be coming. there is one big yacht by the one fishing store the guys use alot and it's for sale I told my cousin it's my yacht. we had to stop when it first showed up because the name and the location it came from is so strange and never heard of the place before. my bil looked it up on the website and it's some island I think near Panana. it's been there it seems for the whole summer I guess this isn't a time to sell boat like that. it's out of the water and just sitting in front of the parking lot. maybe I can sneak a picture. sometimes we see big yachts when they come into the inlet from sea for over night visits or sometimes longer. they sure are nice to see more than the usual big fishing boats.
