Shelf space is something I am struggling with right now :( As for now, I keep packing books which I read/wont-read-for-sometime and put them in the attic.

MBs = Mills and Boons? :)

And Crossword is better than Landmark is it? I should head there sometime then.

I have lost so many book by lending :( I lent it to someone and then, being forgetful by nature, remember after a very long time. And by the time I remember the borrower has forgotten all about it!

And when leaving hostel my friends borrowed a couple of books for the journey! I do pray that my books are in good health in the various cities of India!

So now I keep a note of whom have I lent a book. Have to be careful :)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Join the club :) The first time i got hooked on to flipkart, impressed by their efficiency, i allocated a fixed monthly budget for flipkart. After a few months i had to revoke that because of the receding shelf-space as well as bank balance :P Am still ordering from them, but more judiciously :)

I don't know. I am officially barred by my parents from buying more books as there is no shelf space left in my house to keep books!..
But, Who cares! :p

I pack the books which I read (neatly in a bag) and put them in the attic. This is a temporary arrangement till I build a new, huge shelf :)

message 111: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Wud recommend the same as Sai Sri, the ones which am less likely to re-read, i pack them off neatly and shove it on the attic. For packing them, try wrapping the books inside a cloth and then place it in the carton, lesser chance for termites to get to the books, only for a short time though.

Another easier option, lend to others for safe-keeping :P

message 112: by Neha (new)

Neha | 179 comments Hmmmm let others borrow my books for safe keeping ... Not a chance but I could try storing the books away but that would mean that my books be in easy reach.. Even the thought makes me sad :(

message 113: by Neha (new)

Neha Oberoi | 20 comments I get that everyone is really possessive about their books. However, the hole in my pocket is progressively getting larger and larger. Is anyone at all keen on a book swap???? I would love to share my books as long as I'm convinced they are with booklovers and will be cherished and looked after.

Lol:) I think my temporary shelf here will give away any time with the number of books loading!

Anyways, I ordered my first set of books from Flipkart. Couldn't resist the temptation of the discounts offered :)

However I compared a few books and found that certain imported books can be found at a cheaper rate at Blossoms, Bangalore.

dely | 5485 comments Siddharth wrote: "I dont understand the reason why people exchange books. Books are meant to be bought, read and then shelved.

I think it depends of the book: if I love a book I don't lend it (at least they can read it in my house) and I don't exchange it, if I don't like a book I bring it to sell to the second hand shop. It also happened that I bought a book to give to a friend for his birthday. I read it before donate it and I loved it so much that I decided to go and buy it for me to read and re-read it every time I like.

message 119: by Kunal (new)

Kunal Sen | 506 comments One of my favorite threads on the forum....we're discussing a lot of things from the looks of it....

Where I get my books from?
I try to visit the Broadway bookstore here in Panjim every twenty days or so, not really always with a predisposition to buy, but essentially to browse first. I love the feel and touch and warmth and diffused glow of the bookstore, perhaps one the few places that still serve as portals to an unhurried pace of life. I've not yet purchased a book online and though I don't really mind e-books and I possess loads of them, I would still prefer a paperback if given a choice.

I lend or not?
I used to but then I realized they were taking too long to finish and I didn't have the patience to keep a track/follow-up with them etc. So, I've virtually stopped loaning out from any of my cardboard boxes.

Preference of shelf material?
I love oak or mahogany and I would take the risk of termites just to have them materials :)

message 120: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually buy from Indiaplaza/FlipKart.
IndiaPlaza give a minimum of 30% disount on all books, but service is a bit concern as compared to flipkart...

But i don't get Kannada books on FlipKart/Indiaplaza. I buy Kannada books from sapnaonline.

are there any places in pune where we can have second hand books except the ones sitting on footpaths..?

message 122: by Vinoth (new)

Vinoth | 4684 comments I used to buy only from second hand bookstores.now am more tilted towards online book stores..because of the discounts i get from them..mostly Infibeam and flipkart.but if some other online book store gives a substantial discount than others i will go with them...I use the following website to compare prices..

http://www.mysmartprice.com/book/

A very useful website..

If u like speedy and good service u better stick to Infibeam/flipkart.I bought a book from uread.com which looked like a second hand book. when i complained they did not respond to my mail(S) for 20 days. i had to call them to enquire about the complaint .Then i got a reply saying that the book is out of print and they could not replace it and gave me a discount on my forthcoming purchases from them...

Vinoth : .but if some other online book store gives a substantial discount than others i will go with them..

I usually buy from Indiaplaza.. I get 40% off on all books.. if discount is not 40%, use 'icici40off' promocode, it gives you 40% off on all books. I also use gift certificates which i get from freecharge.in.. If total purchase of book is 399rs you get another 100rs off..

Pretty Good, off course they are not FIRST HAND QUALITY, but they arent falling off either.....being somenone from Kolkata, I have bought bulk of my books, second hand from College Street. Going by that standard the books are in a nice shape!!!

Nikhil Singh Since I read most of my books on my iPad, I get them from the amazon kindle store. I don't like piracy of books.

Flipkart has awesome service and I have bought books from them too quite a many number of times.

Manjit> You can go to Blossoms on Church Street for books. They have a huge collection of books (3 floors i think)

Sweta | 4 comments Is there any book shop in Mumbai like "Blossoms" (in Bangalore)? Have recently moved to Mumbai... and I miss Church Street soooo much... here all I get is Crosswords, Landmark, Reliance... :( I usually shop from flipkart or indiaplaza... but I miss spending hours in a bookshop which is stuffed like Blossoms.. rows and rows of books.. infact rows behind rows!!!

Rosun Rajkumar (rosunningthemcha) | 868 comments @Sweta, same pinch! Got shifted (transferred) to Mumbai. I'm literally living out of a suitcase; can't afford to buy or retain books. Where all to carry them? I got enrolled for Just Books. They have a good collection of books. The only drawback being the book you looking for is too popular and someone has picked it already. So you gota keep waiting. I've been waiting for Steve Jobs latest biography for like 3 weeks now!
