I second that :) Haven't yet had courage to try them for more expensive items like electronics and stuff, but they are really great for buying books.

@Ajay, I know what you say. Bookshops have that effect on me too. Before I got addicted to online shopping and when I was with my parents, I was a frequent visitor of TBS and PaiCo - the 2 major bookshops in Calicut then. I used to buy books in bulk. I have spent quite a lot of money on books a decade back. Now I am more choosy and prefer to buy online as I get upto 40% or sometimes even more discount. I feel bad for bookshops. But then I have to take care of my money, too.

Though I prefer ordering online nowadays, can't resist myself from stepping into the bookstores whenever I come across one. And I always ended up buying one or two.. :)

i haven't found any books on the sites that piqued my interests yet, thoughl.

Besides, history lives at this place. The Bazaar was started during the time of The Mughals and it continues even today.
Other than that, Flipkart is the other option I frequently use.

You can try MG Road. There are many book shops in there and also you will find small time retailers sitting by the sides of the roads selling books.

There's Blossom Book House (mentioned earlier). Its on Church Street near Amoeba Gaming Zone. Then there is Select Book Store, Brigade Road (haven't been there personally but I've heard good reviews). Gangarams at M. G. Road is a place worth visiting.

I was fortunate enough to see the Delhi book fair too this time... Its the first time I have witnessed such a big book fair...

for your opportunities mainly - National bookfairs, international book fairs, great libraries... etc. etc.
Here where I live, there are no decent bookshops, not even 5% discount in most, and no good libraries (fiction) to boot.

Book readers are mainly content in reading Self Help/Motivational books.

but the bookfairs are amazing, i agree. and i've never been to the daryaganj market myself :(

where in Hyderabad?

On the lighter side i read somewhere that Indian visitors to Europe get along best in Italy. The same disregard for rules. The same arbitrary rule flouting. Mafia! :P

Great, nice to know. How big is their collection? Will msg u for details abt the exact location.

I usually buy books from Landmark. Earlier, before the mall era, I used to frequent the Abids roads on Sundays and spend hours checking out the books on the footpaths. I miss those days :D
I just ordered my first book on Flipkart. I hope the experience is good!

When I told my friends, all they could say was.. you are becoming lunatic! *blinks, blinks*

There was a retail book store by the name of CROSSWORD in Pacific mall. Unfortunately, its closed now! :(

Couldnt have agreed more :D Bookstores are a paradise :) I can spend hours without a care. Best part about Landmark is, if you are hungry, chocolates are just a step away :D

Good Lord! Dangerous combination of books and chocolates!! Bookstores have a feel that is quite unexplainable. I enter a bookstore and I start to feel positive vibes.Loads of books all around. Different sections, different kind of people roaming around with there eyes glued to the bookshelves. One day when I would retire, I'll open a bookstore with a Viceregal touch to it, somewhere in the hills of Uttarakhand.I'll be sitting on my resting chair holding a Ruskin Bond in my left hand and a cup of coffee in the other. I'll be content, I'll feel complete.

I am not as ambitious as you are with regards to opening a bookstore! But I would definitely like to keep my collection and open a small library in my home :)

I would definitely come there to get my copies for a little library of my own :) Indeed nothing can transcend the joy of reading a book with a cup of tea and watching the rain simultaneously and the lush green hills. My favourite pastime back at home. Sigh.
Here my view is blocked by the umpteen brightly coloured buildings :(

I understand brother, My views of a green jungle have been replaced by concrete jungles too! :(

There are always airports/railways stations.. bookstores in the malls..
Is there a word for someone who is a compulsive book shopper?

It is blocked in office.. :( Will check out in the evening.. How wbout the discounts etc, there?

I wonder too.. there should be something..

Storing and shelving books is as much fun as reading them I think..

That said, I am quite possessive about my books :D I lend them to only selected few.

I checked Jeffrey Archer's latest on saturday -- Uread was cheaper and it will get delivered by tomm.
So not bad :)

You know what I do?
I DONT LEND THEM! :P"
I am not taking your bait :P :P
How is Crossword? I haven been there till now.

I like crossword more than landmark. Collections are better than landmark. And lesser crowd also.. :)
You can get good discounts during their special sales, i guess twice in an year..

I am quite like that myself, its a little OCDish, but I note down the who/when/which book I have lent to and start following up after 15 days.
As for MB's I am glad I exchanged them. They would have taken precious space on my bookshelf
