He's the brains and I'm the more the librarian for the group. I've read all the old stuff and he's read all the new stuff.

I see that! He set the bar way too high right out of the gate, accusing me of having brains like that. Now I'm going to have performance anxiety! HAHA!
Sorry David, they got your own. You hade a hig-rankigr´rnkign, aplying ro as woudl ïf tooth ¨, ouh¨thpae,,,,u us aeithe of tifiet hed ork
Thanks Naomi,I switched all the e-mail choices to none, and set up an RSS feed instead. Let's see how it works out.
Best, Jim

@ Jim...you are doing better than me if you know what an RSS feed is!! lol
I also was on there to reduce email but no idea what rss feed would do for me. Another topic, is there anyone that is finding a lot of duplication ...hence confusion between discussion groups ?? Quite a lot of Scandinavian / Nordic /Italian, plus plus plus under group, World Mysteries and Thrillers. Can this be tightened up do you suppose?

Sharon..we had actually had this discussion under another thread, but each of those groups have different focuses or topics. If you look at Ken/Dave's group, they take off on different discussions than what Dee and I do. The World Mysteries and Thrillers group, which happens to be a group I have been stalking and will probably be joining, doesn't limit itself to one geographical area, but looks at mysteries and thrillers from around the world, minus the US, if I remember right.
So, you either look at each group for what you are trying to get/learn out of each of them, which could be different perspectives on stuff. I like to see what numerous people are saying on a subject before I form an opinion or such on something.
I think also what I like about having the multiple groups vs. one big group is that the groups don't get too big. I like the "quaintness" of the smaller groups and think that they lend better to deeper discussions.
Sure it is my functioning because I am confused discussing the same books in more than one place .....Thanks.
That can be handled in a couple of ways...1) Copy and paste, if you are doing a book review..what you are reading, etc.
2) Offer feedback if it is an actual discussion. I have had groups where I will post a copy and pasted post if it is an update to what I am reading/just finished or such, but if I am starting a discussion or responding to a discussion, it is what are my thoughts to what another member has posted.

I just thought you guys recruited James to send me cryptic messages so I'd think I was losing my mind!
Oh, no..I was going to ask you what they meant since Ken says you are the brains of the group!! You are multilingual aren't you?
@Kenneth and Dave - great bookshelf you have over there! No, I am not going to join 2 Nordic groups but I am going to read Lucifer' s Tears now.
Oh wait, what? The World group is different. I see more in common with the two Nordic/Scandinavian groups. Some crime is more noir than others but it's all Scandinavian/Nordic. Whereas the World thing was for crime/procedurals/suspense/thrillers/mysteries etc that are located EVERYWHERE except US. (with the exception of the non-American subcultures, like a Chinese-American or a Native American cop etc). The Nordic region is still part of it, and a big part for what you can find as books, but there are so many other parts in the world that could also be interesting. The whole world...
Yes, I speak a little English. :)
James, a few posts above... did your cat find the keyboard? Mine occasionally find the keyboard (one of the reasons for keeping catslock on) but they usually
An RSS feed is a handy dandy little orange button usually located in the upper right hand corner of a site or blog. If you select it, new content will be delivered to you automatically. There are various options about where it will be delivered. Favorites, Mail, etc. It saves you from e-mail bombardments and also from having check your favorite sites regularly.
There is some duplication, but it's not bothersome. I routed my gmail account into my main e-mail account, and that also sometimes causes duplication. If you've done the same, it might be part of the problem.
James wrote: "Se tarkoitaa: vittu saatana perkele jumalauta. An essentially phrase if your learning Finnish."Jim, are you swearing at us in Finnish? lol
I hadn't thought of that, but it's entirely possible. The cat likes to play with the computer. I'm convinced he could write if he had prehensil thumbs.
James wrote: "Se tarkoitaa: vittu saatana perkele jumalauta. An essentially phrase if your learning Finnish."Well, yes, I'm swearing, but not AT you. It's the ultimate Finnnish swearing phrase. Swearing in Finnish is much more satisying than in English, has a truly rich vocabulary.
Hey all, name's Hayley, I'm 25 and live in Kent, UK. I was introduced to NN after my big sister ordered me to read Stieg Larsson (even went so far as to post the 3 books up to me - separately, obviously) I currently have 5 Nesbo books on my bookshelf waiting for their time to be read :D
Dee wrote: "this is a great time waster Hayley! I could spend a 12 hour shift on GR and accomplish nothing ;)"...and she does! lol (I can say that cuz I can too!!)
Dee wrote: "this is a great time waster Hayley! I could spend a 12 hour shift on GR and accomplish nothing ;)"Haha, sounds like fun, now if only the work comp would speed up and start co-operating with me!
Dee wrote: "nice jim...lol! google translate is my friend!"They had those words in translate?! That really surprises me.
Close, but you don't translate perkele. It's a pre-Christian god and more original and Nordic (or Estonian?) than the devil. Pronounced like you would 'perquele' if that was a word in Spanish. A very good word to know when you run to some random Finns anywhere. (the language sounds like a machine gun in slow mo)
Dee wrote: "yep they did...google translate came back with fucking goddamn devil satanwas it close?"
It was pretty close. It's "cunt devil goddamn goddamn."
Anna wrote: "Close, but you don't translate perkele. It's a pre-Christian god and more original and Nordic (or Estonian?) than the devil. Personally, I've always been quite fond of it.
Hi, I'm from middle Maryland and I like reading thillers from around the world and I have been reading a good number of Nordic books in the last year. Faceless Killers started me and after reading all the Wallander books I've moved onto Jo Nesbo and others and right now I'm reading several different authors as they come in from the library including working through the Martin Beck series and at the moment I am reading Lucifer's Tears along with The Keeper of Lost Causes Thanks for having me!
Goodness Art, what fun you are having. I am really enjoying TKOLC aka, Mercy right now....really at about 40% on Kindle and do not want to put it down. Enjoy.
The minute I finished TKOLC (which I loved), I started reading The Dogs of Riga of which I've read about 10% & am enjoying.
