This book was tasteless. it should have an "R" rating. sounds like he was horny when he wrote it. I was very dissapointed and will look at him in a totally different light even as an actor now.

I like a book with chacters who, like most of us, are flawed. The book resonated with me because to an extent, I have been Claire, although not that young and beautiful. But unfortunately, I never had anyone pay off my student loans!
He was selfish; he cared about her, but not enough, and not in the right way for what she was looking for. He recognized his selfishness.
She was naive, she got hurt, and she recognized that continuing on with him was self destructive. Life lesson.
I found it poignant.
I think that this was a very realistic and nice novel. It explored a young woman's perspective on love and what choices to make. She matured at the end of the book, and things went better, and I liked that message of 'be patient, work harder, and things will finally work out'. it doesn't have a very deep philosophical meaning, but it is an easy read, and the movie was wonderful, I loved it. I think all teenagers and young adults would enjoy it and take something out of it.
