Marrying Miss Marshal (Love Inspired Historical) by Lacy Williams

How exciting to have Danna Carpenter and Chas O’Grady, “newlyweds” and the main characters from MARRYING MISS MARSHAL, an August release from Love Inspired Historical with us today.

1. Tell me the most interesting thing about you.

Danna: Oh, I’m not a very interesting person.
Chas: Of course you are.
Danna: Why, because I’m a woman and I do a man’s job? Because I wear trousers?
Chas: I do find your trousers intriguing—you don’t see women back East wearing pants—[he winks] but no, I mean, just how you’ve managed to overcome all the obstacles in your life. Like when your first husband died and you just stepped up into his boots and took over the job as Marshal.

2. What do you do for fun?

Danna: Up until recently I didn’t have a lot of time for fun. Thankfully, the town council decided to give me some deputies, so now I can get away from the jail and have some time to myself.
Chas: It’s sure different living in a small town versus the big city, like I was used to before I moved to Wyoming.
Danna: I’m sure you miss your fancy balls and dinner parties… [she sniffs and looks away]
Chas: [his eyes soften as he looks at her profile] I was just thinking about that picnic we took last week, just the two of us. How the sunlight shining down through the trees brought out the gold highlights in your hair… [he tweaks the end of her braid]
Danna: [she slants her eyes to him] I guess that’s a pretty good example of something we’ve done just for ourselves.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Danna: Facing my bosses—the town council—when I know they’re unhappy with how an investigation is going. But crimes don’t always get solved easily or quickly. I just don’t like knowing when they’re disappointed in me.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

Chas: [clears his throat] I lost someone close to me—actually I was probably the reason she died—
Danna: That’s not true.
Chas: Yes, it is. Anyway, I guess because of that experience, my biggest fear is losing someone else that I love.
Danna: [clasps his hand] Don’t worry. I’m careful when I’m on the job.
Chas: I know you are.

5. What do you want out of life?

Chas: [slants his eyes toward Danna] Well, we’re both of a mind to start a family now that things have settled down around town.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Chas: She’s loyal to a fault. Takes her duties very seriously.
Danna: Ohhh [she growls at him]
Chas: What? You are. You could’ve just walked away when the townspeople quit believing in you, but nooo… you had to go and try to catch those crooks by yourself. If that’s not loyalty, then I don’t know what is.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

Chas: Erm…
Danna: [shoots him a look]
Chas: Well…
Danna: [crosses her arms over her chest] Go ahead. Tell them. Tell them how you “appropriated” my late husband’s journal.
Chas: I had a good reason!
Danna: Humph [she snorts]. It still wasn’t right.
Chas: Well, I’m not going to apologize for mmmph—[Danna slaps her hand over his mouth]
Danna: [glances around] Sshhh. If someone hasn’t read our story yet you don’t want to spoil one of the important plot points!

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Chas: Don’t ask her that. Danna’s perfect the way she is—trousers and badge and all. [he has a gooey, lovestruck look on his face]
Danna: [shakes her head] Cooking. I can’t cook a lick—
Chas: Or make coffee. Good point, there is that one little thing...
Danna: [shoots him a Look] Or make coffee. That’s definitely something I’d change if I could—if I had time for that sort of housewifely thing.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

Danna: Unfortunately, my late husband left me with a mangy hound dog who’s too ornery for his own good.
Chas: Aw, Danna. Wrong Tree isn’t a bad dog.
Danna: Oh, he’s real good, all right. Good at getting into trouble. If he digs up the mayor’s wife’s flowerbeds one more time…

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

Danna: Well, I’m definitely not cut out to be a fine lady wearing fancy dresses and such, so the only time I can think of that I might fit in would be when settlers first came to the good old U of S—I’m sure they were working so hard at living off the land that they wouldn’t have noticed me wearing my trousers.
Chas: [shrugs] Sounds good to me. As long as you were there, darlin’, I’d be happy. [he waves] Thanks for letting us come talk to you today. If you want to know more about this ornery, special lady and me you’ll have to read our book.
