Anyone have recommendations for a book similar to The Wise Man's Fear? After reading it I'm pretty bummed about having to wait a few years for the last book in the trilogy.

I've heard The Painted Man as a recommendation, but haven't read it yet. Any other recommendations?

Jason Bergman (loonyboi) | 1 comments I feel your pain. You might like Assassin's Apprentice. It has a lot of fans, and isn't entirely dissimilar. I enjoyed it, but there's something special about Rothfuss.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely check it out. Sounds like right up my alley. I've seen it recommended to me before but for some reason dismissed it. Glad you brought it up again.

Can't wait for the next book in the Kingkiller series.

Aaron (ak74) Haha a response 18 months later. So did you find anything similar during that time?

Maybe the Abercrombie series, or even some of Bakker's books.

The First Law series was pretty good, but didn't have that character development aspect that the Kingkiller Chronicles features.

I just finished the first Farseer book and it was definitely an enjoyable read. Not as good as Rothfuss's two books, but it scratched that itch.

It doesn't seem like it was that long ago when I posted this question. I posted it thinking that Shackers, who are constantly asking for book recommendations, would take to GoodReads pretty quickly. Guess not.

Dann (vincentgrayson) | 2 comments I recently read Brent Weeks' Night Angel trilogy. While it's not quite the same as Kingkiller, it definitely has some solid fantasy going on, along with good character development and it's actually finished, which is always nice.

Yeah, Night Angel series was pretty good. The world he created in them was pretty vivid and well set.

Another book to look into is The Deed of Paksenarrion, which is three books rolled into one. Great character development and has a character that portrays what a female paladin in a D&D universe would be like. Then again I'm a sucker for a badass female warrior (which is why I enjoyed Ash: A Secret History, as well.)
