But yeah, Joe Hill is Stephen King's spawn. ;)

I prefer the Magicians to Potter right now. I think I just got fed up with the teen angst and that ending! OMG. but to each their own.

Make him write faster.
I don't really read that as writing it off. From what I remember seeing, GRRM likes HP. I think he's trying to steer the comparison away to avoid expectations. Not like when King wrote off Twilight. Now that was pretty much a diss. Heh....
Magicians is a funny animal. Those that like it, love it. And those that don't, are revolted by it.
I liked The Magicians as well. I totally didn't realize the new one was coming out tomorrow already. August is flying by!
Jax wrote: "I prefer the Magicians to Potter right now. I think I just got fed up with the teen angst and that ending! OMG. but to each their own."To each their own is right. I couldn't take the blahsome "everything sucks" tone of Magicians, but I agree that the angstyness of HP did get a mite wearisome after a while. But still, it's one of my all time favorites and I re-read it... a lot. :D
The only thing that I reread a lot is Pratchett. The rereadability of the Discworld books is off the fucking chart.Whenever I try to reread anything else, I remember it being better (Anne Rice's 'Mayfair Witches' series, for instance) or I feel as if I could be missing something awesome that I haven't read yet.
I've re-read so much this year that I'm considering a 100% re-read ban for 2012. Everyone else does interesting challenges, so why not?
My reading challenge for the year was to read the favorite books of my favorite friends. I've done Empire of the Sun (Ballard), started Cryptonomicon (Stephenson) and Tailchaser's Song (Williams)

I started to read the Discworld books on my Nook, but they were formatted badly so I set them aside until I get better copies.

It just might become necessary. I have way too many books on my TBR to keep reading the same ones over and over.
My GF does that. she reads like 6 books over and over again..no matter how many books i purchase for her.
Becky wrote: "Maybe I'll put my HP re-read off and join you in a Zero Re-Read goal, Chris. ;)"Cool! Or read it before 2012 starts. LOL
You should wait until you're old enough to actually forget every book you read ten minutes after putting it back on the shelf. Then it's like reading new ones every time.
Ummm what about FBR round 2. No guarantees on that front. Also, I loved The Magicians. HP is my first love though. The Dark Tower is making it's way to a very close second to HP and, depending on how it ends, may end up a tie for me in the favorite series department.

I want a t-shirt too!
I want a t-shirt too!

Forced Book Reads. It's something that we tried in another group. We each agreed to read the books that the others chose so that we could force the others to read a book of our choice.
It's not so bad! I'm forcing everyone to read Assassin's Apprentice. They are all very much enriched by the process.
sure, but what if someone tries to force you to read something like..*and this is a totally personal choice* Moby Dick. I couldn't do it.
There was a 500 page limit, so that helped. Well, not a limit... More like a gentle suggestion. And by gentle I mean not gentle.

That's fine by me. The book I have in mind I dont think any of you have read yet.
It's actually pretty fun. I like reading things outside of my comfort zone though. *shrug* :)Almost nobody liked my choice, but that was OK - I picked something I hadn't read so I didn't know if I would even like it. (And I ended up giving it 2 stars, so not really.) LOL
I chose Little Bee, if you're curious.
Dawn wrote: "There was a 500 page limit, so that helped. Well, not a limit... More like a gentle suggestion. And by gentle I mean not gentle."There were whips involved.
I like this, in theory, but i'd be afraid someone would want me to read Nora Roberts or something (i'm only slightly biased against romance and chick lit, i blame it on working in a book store for 4 years)
Well our tastes seem to mesh fairly well so there were no fears going in. A few surprises, good and bad. But nothing Moby Dick sized.
Dawn wrote: "There was a 500 page limit, so that helped. Well, not a limit... More like a gentle suggestion. And by gentle I mean not gentle."There was? Oh shit.

Yer in trouble now! :P
I cannot for the life of me read two books at once! It fries my brain and need to concentrate on one only, and that is A Feast for Crows at this moment in time. But am happy that a number of books that I have waiting on my bookshelf have had such good things said about them. I have an Assassin's Apprentice waiting for me, a book that I bought spontaneously off Amazon and now will read after reading Dance (if my brother will lend me the book!). Also have a few of Cornwell's novels on my shelf, The Winter King and The Last Kingdom. So good to hear such good stuff about his books and Robin Hobbs.
Hey, Rebecca. I just finished Assassin's Apprentice a few minutes ago. I'll be starting the next one soon.Glad to see you taking an interest in Hobb and Cornwell. They're good ones.

Well not for you! You're special ;)
And I approved the choices, and I'd liked your choice, so I let it by.
It has big font. That counts for something!
I'm reading the YA series that starts with Fallen by Lauren Kate because I promised my 13 year old daughter I would. I just finished the second book and was excited because I thought it was a trilogy and so I only have one more to go, but my daughter informed me today that the third book is not the last, it's just the last one published so far. Sigh. Can you tell I don't love this series? I'm also laboring through a memoir, The Girl's Guide to Homelessness, that I like even less than the previously mentioned series. Why bother? Because I paid full price for it at the grocery store because I was desperate for something to read at my son's baseball practice. I'm determined to finish it so I can at least get the satisfaction of writing a review that details why I dislike it so much.
