Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Cold Copper (Age of Steam, #3) by Devon Monk , trying to get through The Doomsday Vault (Clockwork Empire, #1) by Steven Harper but it's been slow going. I have Third Grave Dead Ahead (Charley Davidson #3) by Darynda Jones up next. I need to get caught up on that series before the fifth book comes out next week.

I'm about two thirds of the way through it now and I'm determined to plow ahead. My mind is definitely skipping ahead to the next book on my list though.

Fred Loucks-Schultz | 18 comments It's nice to have the budget for books again... Been spending most of my reading time lately on certification test prep books rather than UF. Picked up "Death's Rival" , "Kitty Rocks the House", and the 4th Daughter of the Black Sun novel last week.

An excellent book. Evocative prose. Real characters. Explores emotions and no heavy-handed convoluted plot.

I LOVE this series! It's the only series in which I've given five stars to every single book.

It was awesome. Maybe not quite as good as book two, but the author has such a great way of bringing out real heartfelt emotion without getting all sappy sentimental or preachy that I had to give it five stars.

message 1971: by Christine (new)

Christine | 752 comments In the past week I finished Widow’s Web (Elemental Assassin, #7) by Jennifer Estep which was good. I'm not in love with this series but I like it a lot. I also listened to the audio of Black The Birth of Evil (The Circle, #1) by Ted Dekker . At the beginning I thought it would turn out to be a five star read for me, but it meandered a little too long for me towards the end. Still, I loved the concept and plan to continue to see what happens next.

Now I'm on to Burn the Night (Dark Days, #6) by Jocelynn Drake in print and Mountain Echoes (Walker Papers, #8) by C.E. Murphy on audio.

I wish I loved it as much as you did. It was just OK for me. Chess is definitely a tough heroine to relate to, but I don't plan on giving this series up yet.

For me, I thought the author did a very good job of making Chess sympathetic and explaining how she got to where she it without glorifying her lifestyle. I was so often torn between hugging her and shaking some sense into her. Plus, I like the author's writing style so that helps a lot.

Hammered was slower and darker than the previous two books in the series, but I liked it because I felt we got to see more of Atticus' past and get a better sense of what he's had to deal with living as long as he has.

message 1990: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot Branded (Sinners, #1) by Abi Ketner . Seriously grim world and excellent story.

message 1991: by Christine (new)

Christine | 752 comments I had some really good laughs with A Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses (Half Moon Hollow, #2) by Molly Harper . I imagine it's kind of funny on it's own, but it's a lot funnier if you've already read her Jane Jameson series and are familiar with all the side characters.

Now I am really enjoying the snark and bad attitude that is Sandman Slim in Kill the Dead (Sandman Slim, #2) by Richard Kadrey

Currently reading the second book Kiss of Blood in the Pamela Palmer series. The plot picks up where Quinn is still facing residual side effects from her stay at Vamp City. I heard about the series in a Goodreads recommendation list. Also reading the book of the month: Red-Headed Step-Child by Sabina Kane.
