I really like the first Cora book. The tagline "True Blood Meets True Grit" fits in the way that it's a western with vampires and other supernaturals. However, there is no romancin' the vamps in the COra books, so if you are looking for a blond viking to sweep Cora off her feet, I don't see it happening. ;)

message 1600: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Wood | 3 comments I recently finished "Midnight Riot" by Ben Aaronovitch. A pretty solid read in the cop-stumbles-over-supernatural sub-genre. He's done his research and the story is rich with police procedural details as well as London lore. Peter Grant is an appealing protagonist too. Smart enough and in over his head enough to keep things interesting, plus his slow apprenticeship in all things magical is a fun journey of discovery. Hints of romance, but nothing definite, and the female characters are well rounded to boot. Generally I'd recommend it.
