What are you reading?

Two of my kids loved it, but the third one hated it. Maybe she'll like the movie better.

Next I think I'll start

Prepare to Die!

Awesome!! My local library's used book sale is coming up very soon, which means I'll be getting my own bargains. The problem is, though, that the nice volunteers who organize the books don't separate the UF from everything else, so it's really difficult to find those kinds of titles :P

Hey Ashley...This book is going to be a "heavily skimmed" checked the back and "finished" it for me. It's not a bad book, but many of the jokes are crass at best and vulgar at their worst. Yes, some of them are funny, but after pages and pages of them and various superhero fights, I kind of timed out on it somewhere between 50 and 100 pages. There IS a plot; it's not all fights--the guy is about to be winked out and so he's saying his final goodbyes. That was interesting enough for me to skip around and see what was important to him. So there's a romance, or he always wished there had been, and he's not after marrying superwoman.
All that said, it was kind of a letdown. I just could not care enough to want to read through how the guy became a superhero and all the related fights, jokes, trials and tribulations. It is well-written. Some of the jokes are...oh, high school childish, which if you get into the flow can be funny (there's nothing wrong with that type of humor, but it didn't do much for me in this case and some of the jokes were just plain stupid.)
I picked Prepare to Die! over Confessions of a D-List Supervillain, which I had sampled on Kindle. I found a kind of interesting/surprising twist even in the sample intrigued me. (This is what happens when you stand around giggling with librarians. You talk all kinds of weird books!) I enjoyed the sample of Supervillains and it's cheap so next time I'm in the mood for trying really zany, I am going to pick Supervillains up. I'm hoping it's like Superhero, Uncensored by Kabza. I ran across it as a free short on TownDrunk and found it hilarious (warning: F-bombs abound! Your sense of humor may differ from mine and in that case it may not be funny for you!)

All that said, my librarian giggled herself silly telling me about Prepare to Die. It just didn't work for me!

Thanks, Maria! I think I'll pass on PTD and look into Confessions and Uncensored instead, given your descriptions. I'm not very tolerant of high school humor - I have to work with 18 year olds every day and get
enough of their antics!
Have you ever read Soon I Will Be Invincible?

Haven't seen it! Will check it out, thanks.

Reading Katya's World, Three Parts Dead, Fading Light: An Anthology of the Monstrous & The Dead of Winter - depending on my mood at any particular moment.

I just started listening to it and am really liking it.

Thanks. I've heard good things about it.

I haven't gotten far enough to form an opinion, but it's interesting so far.

In print, I'm about to start

I read 1Q84 last year and liked it a lot, too. It was long, but at the same time, I thought it was pretty fascinating overall.

and now I'm reading

Lol. I *loved* that book! :) Did you think that the world-building was too complicated, or maybe the back story interfered with the plot? I did think that there was so much that had happened in the past that it was sometimes hard to puzzle it all out. Imho, the second one is even better.
I'm starting the BOM -

Maybe that's what it was, the back story. I couldn't quite figure out what it was that I could not get into. I really liked Mercy a lot, so it wasn't her. I think I needed more info into Mercy's walker abilities, but I figured that may be explained over the course of the next books.

I liked

I'm almost almost done with the audio of

I love most of Briggs stuff, but I did like her Alpha and Omega series more than the Mercy Thompson one. Don't get me wrong, they are both great series, but something about Alpha and Omega (which is in the same world) just totally grabbed me.

That's one of my favorite series. Loved it from the first page. I know other people that didn't care for the first book, but liked the subsequent books better.

Rereads are a luxury I seldom take, but I'm glad I did this time because I forgot a lot from the first two books. I've enjoyed them just as much the second time around.
