Jace would do anything to save her, but being mind controlled i doubt he would be able to if she was ever in a bad situation and needed rescuing.

Which is why although breaking up with him would be a very good idea, there'd be no one to save her if she foumd a bad guy, or say Sebastian started being a problem

I think, and I hate to admit it, that Jem will find out about their feelings for each other and before he dies he will let them know he is okay with them being together.
