John Rhodes (John_D_Rhodes) | 14 comments Would it be a good idea to have a discussion centreing on blogs for this group?

message 2: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3442 comments I must admit I'm getting more curious about blogs - since reading Feed!

message 3: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2782 comments I've enjoyed working on my Blog, although I had a bit of a gap the past while. I also enjoy reading other people's Blogs, especially about reading.

John Rhodes (John_D_Rhodes) | 14 comments Well I have had mine up for about a month but although I did have a few people comeing to it, I'm not really getting anymore and I am selling it all over the place - as well as wanting to get people to know who I am, writing wise, it's a good way to test things out and get opinion back, good or bad. Mine is:

http://johndrhodesauthor.wordpress.com

I did a little research to see what people use and Wordpress and Blogspot came out top - I liked the look of Wordpress blogs teh best and the reivews if it were good.

John Rhodes (John_D_Rhodes) | 14 comments Hello all, I seem to be all over the place... I think madness is slowly... no... no I’m mistaken, it's closing in fast! Anyway you can find lots of my quirky musings and off-kilter meanderings plus short stories etc here at my blog - http://johndrhodesauthor.wordpress.com - I've just posted an item on 'Music and Madness' (ahhh that explains everything, or does it...) and there is still a short story about Reginald (never Reg he just wouldn't like it...) - I'll be posting a new short very soon, a little thing I call 'On Finding His Feet'.
So if you like your humour a little unhinged, like to see the big bad world through one of those wibbly wobbly fairground mirrors, are partial to a bit of fantasy then please do call on by!

I'm enjoying looking at other peoples blogs too ( I do get quite jealous there are some brilliant ones so come on guys lets share)

Anyway got to go... sha la la la leeeee.... :-)

message 9: by Paul (new)

Paul Westmoreland | 18 comments Hi, I've not been on blogs for long, but they're make engaging with readers so much easier than Facebook. My guess is, specialist blogs will come back and reclaim online discussions from FB in the near future. This is just an initial suspicion though.

John Rhodes (John_D_Rhodes) | 14 comments There are just so many out there so it can be quite frustrating but, blogs have changed lives... mine won't but hey!

Just a quick hello and reminder that my new short story is available on my Blog (I'm a fantasy/humour author mostly)!

http://johndrhodesauthor.wordpress.com

A story about a chap who may seem very familiar to those who are heavily into Fantasy literature or films!(less)

Still love people to get my book:

Good luck with the reviewing, I found it rather difficult to write a book review - but then I did just seem to babble on a bit ;D

John Rhodes (John_D_Rhodes) | 14 comments Good look with that... are there any reviewers that people can recommend both for the number of visitors they get and the quality of the review?

message 16: by Editio (new)

Editio (editiomedia) | 9 comments I have a blog dedicated to helping self-published authors. We saw a need for a great site that would get a bunch of experts together to talk about what is going on in the industry, as well as answer some questions. Let us know if there are any articles you like to see us write.

Dani H (pentopaperreads) I've just started to set up my new blog. Will posting all kinds of things, from uni-related stuff, to book reviews, to extracts of my creative pieces from uni (that probably won't happen until after Christmas though). Would really appreciate comments on my stuff.

Thank you!
Barry the mouse was lovely. It's not a good idea to keep them too long though. He had his kit kat and went on his way :P

message 22: by Packabook (new)

Packabook | 34 comments Hi - if anyone enjoys discussion about the location of books - then that's what I chat about at my Packabook blog. I found that when I go travelling anywhere I like to read books set in that location, so that is what inspired me with this. I often go into the history of the place and how it relates to the book etc. It's an endless subject!
Here's the link if you want to have a look: http://packabook.co.uk/blog/

message 23: by John (new)

John Rhodes (John_D_Rhodes) | 14 comments Sounds good - I'll take a look!

Just uploaded Part II of 'On Finding His Feet' my short story - find more about Buster (the humanised dog), his flashy new friend and just what lurks in the shadows! http://johndrhodesauthor.wordpress.com/

I want Barry the mouse too - very nicely written and I'm ever so slightly envious of your book collection!

I'm trying to become a more regular updater on my blog but slow reading at the moment means that my next review may not appear until end of next week :( So currently I'm just updating with occasional non-book related subjects (kinda ;D)
http://beesbuzzgoneawol.blogspot.com/

EDIT: Having said that, I've just managed to whizz through Rebellion (Matthew Hawkood 4) by James McGee and write up a review on it, loved it that much!

Following now :D It's very lovely imo, the colours (and the cat!) really help set it off.

I know what you mean about building it - I have no clue yet how to get it as pretty as the others :( Although that doesn't matter today because the Killer Reads people liked my Rebellion review and retweeted the link to it so I'm a bit high on happiness ;D

message 29: by Jayne (new)

Jayne Clifford-Greening | 13 comments Thanks Hayley!

If you want to know how to build a blog, I can recommend a website called Alison.com. It is FREE to join and you can watch an excellent tutorial which will take you step-by-step on building a blog on blogger.com.

I am still feeling my way around, but I am happy to help. I am happy to put a link on blog about your review on Rebellion, I would also like to read it.

Thanks for the advice - may check it out :) Still need to figure out how to put the book cover pics in the review posts :S

message 31: by Jayne (new)

Jayne Clifford-Greening | 13 comments Hayley, I sooooooooooooo love your blog cover! That bee is so cute, all my children loved him! I love your background with a mediterrean image? The old style phone.

An excellent review and I especially liked the one about the Millenium Trilogy - fantastic books. I was sorry to find out that Steig had died too.
I am going to link yours to my blog now.

message 32: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 77 comments Isn't he sweet, I almost want to name him :)
Yes, it is rather mediterranean looking, I fall in love with those sort of images, they feel so relaxed!

Thank you, I've never written reviews before (unless I have to count school work :S) but I did adore the Millenium Trilogy and that especially made me want to write my own review.

I'm reading through your reviews at the moment, it's quite interesting to see the different ways people write them plus, as previously stated, I'm really nosey :P

message 33: by Dani (new)

Dani H (pentopaperreads) I know I've posted on this before, but my blog has been steadily expanding over the past week, and I am now going to be taking part in a blog hop giveaway for Halloween (the button for info on the giveaway is on my blog).
As always I am looking for others to join my blog, to make my follower base grow, so that I can take on more interesting features like author interviews and more giveaways.
Please support me :) http://vogue-pentopaper.blogspot.com

message 34: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Mclen Hey everyone :) i just posted a update on my blog so if you haven't seen it go check it out :) please

June Ahern (juneahern) | 61 comments I like blogging but also, I like to read certain blogs. The book reviewers for one. My blog started a couple of years before my novel debuted and it gets a lot of hits. The fun part is choosing what to write: Wicca, religion, Scotland, the nuns, my family and spiritual learnings. http://catholicpagan.typepad.com/

message 37: by David (new)

David Makinson (davidmakinson) | 8 comments Blogs are good fun to do and potentially helpful for readers and authors alike. Mine purely deals with e-books from indie writers (but not free ones)and uses a points based system to give the books a rating. I would like to move towards a panel of readers (say 5 or 6) as this will ultimately give more credibility to the reviews. Let me know what you think. E-bookmuncher.

Blair (obviously) I have a blog at http://learnthisphrase.blogspot.com - it's not purely about books as I post about fashion and other stuff I find interesting too, but I keep a record of my monthly reading progress there, as well as posting all my book reviews.

Michael Parker (michaelparker) | 95 comments I have a blog which I post on Goodreads, Twitter, Facebook, Amazon & my own website. But rather than write to all these web pages, I write a short piece in Word, and copy to the blogs. Saves time. I started this a week ago, but only plan to post twice a week for now.

Mark Lawrence (marklawrence) I've got a blog - I think it's the law for authors to have one. This entry is about writing and my experience of publication.

I have just read through your blog. At first I thought to myself that I was reading about a writer who highlighted everything in dollars; something like the knowing the price but not the cost. And then you opened up about your little girl. There's a truism in the fact that writers should not sell their books, but sell themselves. I've no idea if your literary agents were aware of the tragedy that had been visited upon you, probably not, but I suspect a lot more readers of fantasy novels (and I'm not one) will want to buy your book more because of what happened in your life than what happens in your book. Well done.

Michael Parker (michaelparker) | 95 comments Laura, what is it that constitutes a good blog? Get that right and you've cracked it. I looked at yours, but it isn't what I imagined it to be, and I'm sure people look at mine and don't bother looking again. Do we write about ourselves? Do we write about other authors? And if you are busy giving other writers good reviews and four or five stars, who in the meantime is buying your books? I think you should mix it up a little: something of yourself (anything but books/writing), a little perhaps on your progress in getting over writers' block and managing to get some words on paper, and then maybe something you're reading or have read. Don't make it too long because readers can get bored. And post twice a week or less. Leave them wanting more. If you think I'm talking rubbish then maybe that's the reason why I get very few visits to my blog page.
