Do we get a book about Mariah? I'd love to see what kind of man she finds.

Sandra - Wow! Thank you for reviewing it on your blog. To answer your question, yes. Mariah's book, All Roads Lead Home, is due out January 2012.

Awesome! I'll look for it.

Thanks for writing! Loved your debut novel!
I just finished this one, and really enjoyed it!! Nice job, Christine! Loved the twist with the bootleggers.
How exciting to have Gabriel Meeks, the hero from THE MATRIMONY PLAN, an August release from Love Inspired Historical with us today.
1. Tell me the most interesting thing about you.
Hmm. I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about myself. I had a pretty ordinary upbringing—well, except for my four older brothers. Three of them are adopted. That might be interesting to some people, but it was normal to me. They were just like any other older brother, playing tricks on me and complaining that they had to take me with them wherever they went. To them, I was a pest, and I suppose I was. I was always running after stray dogs and cats to “save” them. Once I got lost chasing a tomcat. My brothers had to go out looking for me, and I’ll bet they got a good talking to from Dad. For the next couple weeks, they watched me closely, but eventually their attention wavered, and I got in trouble again. Are you surprised that a troublesome child ended up being a pastor? Don’t be. Those scrapes led me closer to the Lord and gave me compassion for the struggles we all face.
2. What do you do for fun?
Fish. There’s nothing better on a lazy summer day than sitting by a rolling stream with a rod and reel. Now that I live near a river, I might take up fly-fishing. I’ve always admired fishermen who can snare a trout by imitating the movements of a live fly with a bit of feather and string.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Writing my sermon. Just kidding. I do tend to wait until Saturday, but that’s mostly so I’m sure I have the message I’m supposed to preach that week. Whenever I tried to write it earlier in the week, something would come along and tell me that wasn’t the right message. Then I’d have to write another sermon. Best to wait.
Aside from that, I dread meetings. I know, I know. Meetings are the backbone of church business, but I’d rather change a baby’s diaper than face the Ladies’ Aid Society.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
True evil, of course, the kind brought on by Satan. I’ve felt that a couple times in my life, like when I went into an alley in New York City to rescue an orphan who’d fallen into the hands of a crime gang. Just recently I felt it in Pearlman. It’s the kind of thing that raises the hair on the back of your neck and makes your stomach knot up, but you have to face it and know the Lord is with you.
5. What do you want out of life?
To work hand in hand with those in need, to help them better themselves, to mend broken lives. That’s my calling, and I thank God every day that I can put on my boots and go out into the world.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
My family, no question. Felicity, my parents, my brothers, and my sister, Mariah. They’re all precious to me, and as the family grows it’ll bring more blessings. I can hardly wait!
7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
Of course! What minister doesn’t read? Naturally the Bible is at the top of the list. It has an answer for every problem we face. And of course I read theology and philosophy, but when I’m reading for fun, I’ll pick up an adventure novel every time. Zane Grey’s a favorite author, and I enjoyed Burroughs’s Tarzan of the Apes.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
We all battle weaknesses. Mine is pride. I grew up learning to be confident, but, taken too far, confidence can turn into pride. Luckily the women in my life are good at pointing out when I cross that line.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
Absolutely, though it wasn’t my choice. Felicity hoodwinked me into taking in Slinky, the local stray mutt who liked to break into people’s chicken coops. After a little affection and training, he ended up being a loyal companion and first-rate tracker. Sheriff Ilsley has borrowed Slinky more than once when someone turned up lost.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I’d like to go back to Jerusalem in the time of Christ, to hear His words and see Him face-to-face. I know we’ll see Him in the next life, but to actually be near Him while He preached? I would be on my knees in awe!
