Sue | 1296 comments Just thought I'd let you know that at the moment Sliding On The Snow Stone is free on Kindle at the moment. Has lots of good reviews. A story (but looks to be much more) set in Ukraine. Not read it but will download as it looks very interesting.

message 258: by Sue (new)

Sue | 1296 comments Glad I got it as a freebie!

message 259: by Ian, Moderator (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 5088 comments Mod
What you going to spend your 72p saving on?

message 260: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 186 comments Well..Ian..if you then turn around and spend the 72p...it's no longer a savings! Lol. Still am considering tying you up to keep you off Amazon!

message 261: by Stephen (new)

Stephen | 377 comments you would have to steal his kindle for that lol

message 262: by Ian, Moderator (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 5088 comments Mod
And my pc and my fingers........and anyway what's the point of a saving if you have no plan to spend it.....I mean we could put it towards a trip Stateside to see what Catherine looks like.

message 263: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 186 comments Oh boy! I'll get right on that! Lol

message 264: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 186 comments I'm trying to get over there! Trying to get my dual citizenship.....already a permanent resident...you'll not be getting rid of me anytime soon!
Actually..was there 24/2-5/3! Where were you?

message 265: by Ian, Moderator (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 5088 comments Mod
Think that must be a date of some kind, but you'll need to translate....24th of something in 2003?? Probably not.

message 266: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 186 comments Ok...don't you know your dates? 24/2 to 5/3. How do you get through life?!? Lol. And as I said I was just there...wouldn't you think perhaps, maybe..2012? Lol

Ian..you are crazy!

Robert (bobhe) | 748 comments Ian. Point of order please sir. I am reading book specifically flash back to East Germany. Can we split Germans in this case?
As always your word. Final word

Reading An Ice-Cream War by Boyd which is set in what was German East Africa, the little map at the front of the book. From what I can make out the area is now Tanzania, Dar-es-salem being the starting point for the book. What do you think?

message 274: by Ian, Moderator (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 5088 comments Mod
Sounds OK Deanne.

message 277: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenmm) | 118 comments Ian, quick query... reading Dracula at the moment. Was thinking it would tick Romania off my list but am coming to accept that most of the action is in England apart from Harker's trip to the count's castle at the beginning. So am I stuck in the UK again or can I claim it as a brief visit to Transylvania?

message 278: by Ian, Moderator (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 5088 comments Mod
If you are following the challenge rules as I set them out re main setting, then it is England. However it's up to you how strictly you stick to them as it's your own challenge and if you want to make it easier, than that's totally up to you.

message 279: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenmm) | 118 comments Thanks Ian - I suspected as much, just seem to be messing up my choices at the moment...fortunately I'm enjoying the books I'm choosing even if not getting to travel too far!

message 280: by Em (new)

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments I have a much more flexible approach to the challenge, personally, I'd count it!!

message 281: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenmm) | 118 comments Thanks Em - shall think on it...may hold it in reserve until I see how I progress and then give up and include it later!!!

message 283: by Em (new)

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments Hehehe! I like that you're the strict one!

message 284: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 186 comments hey..question...are Scotland and Wales being counted separately? if so...I have at least 1 covered :)

message 285: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 186 comments Ian is very strict....I think he needs to be overthrown!!!! :)

message 286: by Ian, Moderator (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 5088 comments Mod
A challenge to my absolute power over the Around the world in 80 Books is just a challenge too far....so in defence of my megalomania I have had to tweak the rules ever so slightly so that yes all 4 countries within the UK can still be counted separately as well as the Channel Islands..................except for members called Catherine who live in New Jersey.

message 287: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 186 comments hey!!!!! I am shocked! that is just wrong on so many levels!

message 288: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 186 comments and as for the Scotland/Wales issue...I was only asking...I would have accepted a no...and left it at that...because...if you put UK...they are covered...

message 289: by Dalia (new)

Dalia | 76 comments Scotland and Wales are separate countries!!!!

message 290: by Catherine (last edited Dec 16, 2012 09:33AM) (new)

Catherine | 186 comments I know that......they are also part of Great Britain....which encompasses them all! but the way Ian is being....so strict and all...he might not let it be that way...only including it as UK stop!

message 291: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 970 comments I'm sure that I saw on an old post in this thread that Ian let the home nations count individually but not east and west Germany. Anyway i've already done Wales and Scotland in my first six and plan already an Irish trip! Bon Voyage although according to the Plantagenets France should be part of England as well!!

message 296: by Ian, Moderator (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 5088 comments Mod
Back to geography class Catherine.....Stephen is correct. You are confusing the United Kingdom in post 306 which includes Northern Ireland and Great Britain in post 301 which doesn't.

message 297: by Catherine (new)
