What challenges would you like to see?

I don't know why I didn't see this thread until now! lol I was just wondering how you come up with these ideas, I love the minichallenges! They help me finish up so many books! So I had an idea to choose a book from a certain time period. It could be Victorian, Medieval, etc. Or something to do with an event. For instance, with July coming up, we could challenge ourselves to read a book about the American revolution. And we could get bonus points if the book was written within that time frame, not just based on it or about it.
Another idea I have (I can't remember if you already did this, so just ignore this if you did) is to read books by a celebrated author during his/her birthday month.
Rachel - I like those ideas...for the birthday author - would you like to have a cut off of number of books published to ensure that there is a good selection for people to choose from?
Yes, I think that would be a good idea. Maybe a minimum of 5 books? You and Athira can use your judgement on what seems best.
i sent her a msg today, so we'll see...stayed tuned ;)
and if anyone has any other ideas feel free to chime in

On another thread I'm on, we have a "book cover colour" challenge. We have to read books who's covers are predominately say red, blue, green, yellow, black, gold, silver etc. There is a selection of colours (usually 5 colours, and you read 2 of each colour, since that group's challenge is to read 10 books a month) This one is usually really popular with everyone in the group, because it doesn't limit you to anything EXCEPT the colours. We've had people read gothics, PNR, period romances, mysteries, chick lit, classics etc. The only caveate is--you have to post the cover of the book you read, so that we know its the correct colour.
I think that's a really cool idea about the cover color! Because like you said, there is no limit really.
Another challenge could be to read as many books on the banned reading list as possible. It sounds harder than it is...for example Harry Potter has made an appearance on the banned list.
I'd like to know also if there is to be a June mini challange.. I was hoping it would go up before I left for vacation.
I saw in another group where they were challenged to read their freebies. I have 100 or more on my kindle. Thought if it would be a good challenge for me then maybe it would be for someone else as well.

hahaha I saw the freebie challenge, and looked through my Kindle. I realize I desperately need this challenge! lol
The problem with the freebies challenge for me is--having to wrestle the Kindle away from my hubby. We have both a Kindle and a Nook, but he tends to keep the Kindle while I'm the one who does all the downloading for it.
Katie - we are figuring out challenges for the new year right now - i don't know if there will be any up for december
How about a sort of 'generic', but double challenge: (1)to read books we already own (2)that match another challenge we are doing? I have been sorting my huge stack of already-owned TBR books and there are so many that I want to read and so many that fit various challenges, that a challenge like that would help me choose which ones to pick. Of course, that is sort of what I already do, but then there are so many intriguing new ones that I read about here! Also another 'generic' challenge would be to read the next book in any series we are reading. (That would also help my TBR pile get smaller!)
For a quick December challenge, you could issue a general challenge for folks to finish up whatever books, series, challenges, etc., that they would like to get done before Dec. 31.

I love the mini challenges. I do that to myself every year. Some challenges I've had in the past is (1) to read books about seasons in the proper season (2) Read books with a number in the title (3) Read books about a historic event, such as 9/11, Pearl Harbor, World War II ... (4) alphabetically by author (5) alphabetically by title (6) One book off a Pulitzer Prize list.A couple of book groups I've been in have a theme. One year we spent the year reading about World War II. This year they are reading Christian books. Another group only meets during the winter months. We've read culinary arts, that year one of the books we read was Chocolat. One year the theme was "Growing Older, Growing Wiser."
Huck Finn is also a banned book & Lord of the Flies. Just 10 years ago I had to sign a consent form so my senior in high school could read it.
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but it'd be nice to do a "check-in" on everyone's personal resolutions to see where we're at and try to accomplish our own resolutions.
I loved the BINGO challenges I have seen in other groups, such as the Crazy Challenge Connection in which the challenge is called Bookshelf Battle. They ended it sometime in the summer and I would love to see it revived in another group.

So let's hear some fantastic ideas!
