Now that you are done what do you think? Would you re-read this book? Would you recommend it to others?

Colby (colbz) I've read it twice, and I love it, and I made my mom and my friend read it, so yeah...it's a pretty awesome book.

Did you like the ending? How is Skye a symbolic element? What will become of Clay & Skye?

Ziggy (jubilantdusk) | 14 comments I loved this book. I feel like Asher did a good job of making the characters realistic and illustrating how a series of little things can amount to a lot for a person. The story was one I could relate to and I am very pleased with the way it was handled.

Amy (amz310783) | 8 comments I thought this book was brilliant. I thought the idea of suicide tapes was fresh and new (at least to me), the characters were well fleshed out and it all seemed very realistic.

I assume Clay tries to help Skye and refuses to give up the way he did with Hannah.

Colby (colbz) Skye is somebody else that Clay would regularly ignore. I don't know if there's anything that's wrong with her, or what, but Clay won't let her go like he let Hannah go. After the tapes, he realizes how valuable lives are.

Grace (gdaminato) | 520 comments Colby wrote: "After the tapes, he realizes how valuable lives are. "

...And he also realizes that it's in his power to do something that might save Skye from her isolation and loneliness.

Amber | 34 comments I really would like to give this book 4 and half stars.

This is not just an ordinary book. I had expectations, but I didn't think I would turn out to be one of the best books I read in 2011. The story doesn't have a very long introduction, you get sucked in from the beginning. The story grabs you and doesn't let you go. Not even when I closed the book or after I finished it. Suicide is a very heavy theme, especially when it involves a teenager. The writing itself isn't groundbreaking, but the way it was conducted was brilliant and very powerful. The pacing is perfect, I literally couldn't put it down. Once you're in the story, you can't leave it. A great debut novel by the very talented Jay Asher.

Are you guys excited for the movie?

http://jayasher.blogspot.com/2011/07/...

Bianca (dizzybee) I liked this book a lot. Suicide has been a problem in my family so it really hit hard. It is a story that I have ot heard before and is very original. I have already reccomended this book to a couple people and I would defenitly re-read it! Like many other people have said I think Clay will not let Skye go and will will help her through any problems she has or doesn't have. I just hope if they make a movie they don't ruin the story!

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) WHOA, there's a movie? I am super excited! I loved the book, but that makes me nervous for the movie. I hope they can bring out the emotions and subtleties that made the book so memorable.
Selena Gomez is completely different from how I imagined Hannah. Can you guys see her pulling off being a "nobody"?

Miss Bookiverse (missbookiverse) Kritika, I'm still doubting how good Selenea Gomez will be in Hannah's role but Jay Asher sounds totally enthusiastic about her (he keeps mentioning meeting her and watching her movies in his blog), so if the author himself can picture such a Disney girl in the movie adaption of his book, that makes me hopeful.

Tatiana (tatiana_g) I remember appreciating this novel very much at the time I read. Not sure how I would feel about it now. But I would definitely recommend it to teen readers. With vicious gossiping and bullying so rampant these days, it is important to highlight what effect can such things have on people.

A.T. (meandonlyme) | 21 comments I can't give you "Thirteen Reasons Why" I liked this book (sorry I had to do it lol), but I can give you one: It's relatable and in someway, to me personally, that I could be moved to shed a few tears. Though, in my opinion Hannah's reasoning for suicide were a bit weak, I could still see her reasons. In fact, I found myself closer to Clay in the end, and didn't have my heart torn until he broke down in the middle. In all, I love the message of the book and as Hannah so kindly stated "Everything... affects everything.", this I know from experience. And I hope when teens (younger than me, still in high school) read this book they take into consideration just how much one action, one word can determine the course of someones life choices. And that reaching out, taking that one step toward someone, like Clay did with Skye at the end, can make all the difference.

PS Finished this in one day all 288 pages. (I read while working, as a cashier, in a 24 hour parking garage, that's always super busy!)

I just don't know about the movie!!!! But I do know I will recommend this book to EVERYONE. I actually got teary eyed at the end of the book. I have felt the way she has and high school is one big social mess.

Here are some great articles some of you may be interested in reading:

here is an article stating that the novel is too dark:

and the author's reaction:

Again, this is why I think this novel is important. It actually talks about suicide. That topic is dark and needs to be discussed.

Amy | 5 comments It was a surprisingly good book. I was apprehensive about reading it because of the subject covered within its pages but I ended up reading is because several in our book club recommended it (yeah, that was a total shout out to the Dork-a-potamus book club, lol).
!3 Reasons Why is a very thought provoking book, really made me reflect on how I treat others and and how my actions and words could affect those around me.

Quinn | 2 comments I read this book last year just for fun, and it was absolutely amazing. I agree with A.T because I, too, found it very personable. I thought the characters were great and it wasn't too predictable or cheesy. Definitely shows that actions should be thought out first.
P.s: I remember reading this and thinking that it would be an AWESOME movie. Haha.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 13 comments I read Asher's book last year and loved it. So glad there's going to be a movie.

Marisa I loved this book so much, I'll always re-read it. It was one of those books that really made me think hard about it long after I was finished. It honestly changed how I view things.
I would definitely recommend this to my friends, and already have to several. Most of them have really enjoyed the book as well.

Becky Biehl I really love this book. Whenever I clean up my bookshelf, I never donate it and I don't think I ever will. Jay Asher created a book with a strong and dark message and backed it up with believable characters and detailed situations. This book really shows that everyone needs to watch their actions and to think about how they treat other people.

Leigh Collazo (mrsreaderpants) I didn't love this book, and I know I'm in a very small minority. I get that Hannah is depressed and all, but she sounds more whiny and melodramatic and spiteful to me than anything else. Her voice has this sarcastic smirk tone to it that I found annoying. I've always been kind of a "Suck it up and pull yourself together" kind of gal, so this wasn't something I enjoyed.

Mrs. ReaderPants wrote: "I didn't love this book, and I know I'm in a very small minority. I get that Hannah is depressed and all, but she sounds more whiny and melodramatic and spiteful to me than anything else. Her voice..."

I also felt this way at the beginning of the novel but by the end I actually changed my mind!

Leigh Collazo (mrsreaderpants) I warmed up to Hannah a bit by the end, but by then I was really just glad to be done with the book. I don't enjoy being around whiny, negative people in general, so it shouldn't have been much of a surprise that I didn't like 13RW.

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) I was listening the song "Invisible" by Skylar Grey, and it reminded me so much of Hannah. The song is about a girl who does all sorts of things to herself in order to make people notice her and hear her cries for help. Even though the song seems light-hearted if you don't listen to the words, the lyrics are almost heart-breaking. It's a lot like how Hannah seemed all right on the outside, but was practically psychologically damaged within.

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) I wouldn't say it's my favorite book, but one thing's for certain: I loved it.

The book showed us the reality of life. I loved Clay, and how he didn't judge Hannah based on the rumors.

Now there were times when I would think, those rumors where not enough reason to commit suicide. But I haven't experienced it myself, so I have no clue. Though I have never wished for it.

The end was just ... I don't know the right words, but I guess Clay did just the right thing; following Skye in the same hallway he last saw Hannah walk on. That step might change Skye's decision, as she clearly was planning a suicide as well.

Overall, Asher did a great job of making us realize how the even smallest of things can ruin one's life.

Christen | 16 comments I cried buckets after reading this book. And yes, I will endure it all over again just to read it again.

Ramiro hernandez | 1 comments this book is one that I hope will be seen as a classic because it has a strong and emotional story that everyone should read at leather once

Shoug | 1 comments I was so excited reading this one but when I read it I regretted buying it? I don't know I sorta didn't like how it's written and all. Good idea though, I just wished it was better.

Whit | 12 comments I loved this book! It really showed what little things that we do that makes a difference in a person's life. I hope that other people will read this book!
