I assume Clay tries to help Skye and refuses to give up the way he did with Hannah.

...And he also realizes that it's in his power to do something that might save Skye from her isolation and loneliness.

This is not just an ordinary book. I had expectations, but I didn't think I would turn out to be one of the best books I read in 2011. The story doesn't have a very long introduction, you get sucked in from the beginning. The story grabs you and doesn't let you go. Not even when I closed the book or after I finished it. Suicide is a very heavy theme, especially when it involves a teenager. The writing itself isn't groundbreaking, but the way it was conducted was brilliant and very powerful. The pacing is perfect, I literally couldn't put it down. Once you're in the story, you can't leave it. A great debut novel by the very talented Jay Asher.

Selena Gomez is completely different from how I imagined Hannah. Can you guys see her pulling off being a "nobody"?

PS Finished this in one day all 288 pages. (I read while working, as a cashier, in a 24 hour parking garage, that's always super busy!)
I just don't know about the movie!!!! But I do know I will recommend this book to EVERYONE. I actually got teary eyed at the end of the book. I have felt the way she has and high school is one big social mess.
Here are some great articles some of you may be interested in reading:

here is an article stating that the novel is too dark:

and the author's reaction:

Again, this is why I think this novel is important. It actually talks about suicide. That topic is dark and needs to be discussed.

!3 Reasons Why is a very thought provoking book, really made me reflect on how I treat others and and how my actions and words could affect those around me.

P.s: I remember reading this and thinking that it would be an AWESOME movie. Haha.

I would definitely recommend this to my friends, and already have to several. Most of them have really enjoyed the book as well.

Mrs. ReaderPants wrote: "I didn't love this book, and I know I'm in a very small minority. I get that Hannah is depressed and all, but she sounds more whiny and melodramatic and spiteful to me than anything else. Her voice..."
I also felt this way at the beginning of the novel but by the end I actually changed my mind!

The book showed us the reality of life. I loved Clay, and how he didn't judge Hannah based on the rumors.
Now there were times when I would think, those rumors where not enough reason to commit suicide. But I haven't experienced it myself, so I have no clue. Though I have never wished for it.
The end was just ... I don't know the right words, but I guess Clay did just the right thing; following Skye in the same hallway he last saw Hannah walk on. That step might change Skye's decision, as she clearly was planning a suicide as well.
Overall, Asher did a great job of making us realize how the even smallest of things can ruin one's life.
