I like that there is a distinct introduction to all of the characters. I think we get to find out who is the one needing the saving, and who is the one who is going to help. Also, who the beloved is. I like that there is an irony to everything so far.
I like Jim as a character, and Marie-Terese. I'm not sure how I feel about Vin yet but I know I don't like Devina. She is too two-faced. There is something about her, besides the fact that she cheated on Vin that I don't like.
I find the concept of the book to be good, and I'm interested in finding out what happens next. I want to know what Vin's sin is and how Jim will help him. It hasn't been said specifically in the book yet that it is Vin that will need help, but according to the synopsis it is Vin.

I was shocked when we found out that Devina was Vin's girlfriend and even more surprised that she would be there when Jim went for dinner. I was a bit confused about something so maybe you can clear it up for me. When Devina and Jim are talking together while Vin is in the study, Devina mentions grabbing appetizers for Jim and Vin. Yet, she uses french when she says appetizers. (I don't have the book right in front of me so I can't find the exact word) but Vin mentions to Jim that Jim must know french because Devina said the french word. What I want to know is how did Vin know Devina said that? He wasn't supposed to hear their conversation because he was in the study on a phone call. Is there a way that he has microphones or something listening in? I find that suspicious.
I'm also interested in finding out more about Jim's past. He mentions the fact that he had to kill people and that he can't tell Vin anything about himself. I find it weird that he has a fake driver's license. Maybe he's running from something or he just doesn't want to be anything like he was and wants a fresh start.
I worry about Marie-Terese. Obviously, she doesn't realize that her ex has found her and their son. She thinks she's safe in her routine and the fact that she moved far away but she had to realize that her ex is more resourceful than that. Especially because his money making abilities are so shady.
I wonder what kind of shenanigans they'll get into at the Iron Mask.

There was so much that I wasn't prepared for. I understood that the whole reason they were going to the Iron Mask was for Vin to meet Marie-Terese. I couldn't have guessed that there would be a fight. I didn't think that Vin could do the things he did.
I also realized that I am really worried about Marie-Terese's ex. Obviously, she left him because he was violent. I didn't know how terrible he was. I don't necessarily feel bad that he killed those guys because they were worthless jerks, but I do care that he liked it and he didn't care that he did it. He only didn't want to get caught because he was on probation.
Lastly, Vin is starting to freak me out. First he sees dark shadows around people who are going to die, next he gets possessed by something and he starts speaking in tongues, then he has that crazy dream involving Devina. I wonder if with out know it he made some kind of deal with a demon. Maybe he was too young to realize what was going on.
Then there is Devina. Poor Devina. I didn't like her in the beginning but now I just feel bad for her. I think she really cares for Vin but I don't think she cares for him for the right reasons. I think she likes that he takes care of her. Jim should not have told her that Vin bought a ring. Now she's going to think he's going to propose, but now that all this other stuff has happened it's very clear that he isn't going to. Devina should just leave Vin and try to make a life for herself. Vin said she was a model so maybe she should just focus on that.

I think now that Jim finally understands what he needs to do he will have an easier time helping Vin and Marie-Terese. I'm still curious about his past. Why did he call that guy? What was his old job like? How come the guy he called hung up on him? Jim obviously doesn't like who he was but I also don't think he likes who he is.
Marie-Terese needs to trust Vin, I understand I probably think that because of the plot, but I feel like Vin could protect her against her ex. He could take care of Robbie too.
I think it's interesting that Vin is a medium. I wonder if he'll ever be able to accept that part of himself, or at least learn how to channel it easier. It could be really useful. We already know something is going to happen to Marie-Terese and we can assume it's because of her ex husband.
I'm glad Marie-Terese has decided that she doesn't want to be a prostitute anymore. She knew she was never in it all the way and I feel like she's too good of a person to continue doing it. It has to change you some how and probably not for the better.

There is something weird going on with Devina. I don't think she would be that okay with Vin breaking up with her. There is no way she won't retaliate. At first I thought she would just trash his apartment. I didn't think she would some how get beaten and say it was Vin. Vin obviously didn't do it because he was with Marie-Terese, but he can't bring her into it because of her ex husband.
I feel bad for Vin, he's obviously done something have to do with supernatural forces in order to get rid of his visions temporarily and I think that's what his dream was about. He made some kind of deal with out realizing it and now he's paying for it.
