I am always interested in the groups other people have joined and enjoy. (Like I NEED another group to take my time away from reading!)

Feel free to post here if you have groups you'd like to recommend.

Here's one I just joined which is about writing reviews here on GR. It's called More Than Just a Rating. You can click on this link to see it:
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/5...

And for those Stephen King fans the following two groups are essential (IMHO):

Stephen King Fans
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/2...

and

Dark Tower
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/2...

You can always check out mine, or another member's, profile by clicking on their name or photo. You won't be able to view profiles marked as private unless you are that person's friend.

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 598 comments I know exactly what you mean, sometimes it gets hard keeping up with all of those groups, but of course it does not keep me from staying away from them, here is a list of my favs:

1. Barnes and Noble Nook Group
2. Women of Mystery Group
3. The Mystery, Crime and Thriller Group
4. Stephen King Fans
5. Koontzland - Dean Koontz

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) Ones I belong to that are good are:

The Book Addicts which does any and all books, fiction and non-fic alike.

As well as:

Horror Aficionados
and
Fantasy Aficionados

Those two groups have a lot of the same members. They are both very active groups, and a lot of fun, though be warned, things can a get a little crazy in there sometimes :)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) Oh, and another good one I'm in is What's the Name of That Book?!. If you are having problems remembering a book you read years ago, or a book you heard about and are interested in, but can't remember the name, this is a very helpful group. They're friendly too. They've helped me find and add a couple of books I couldn't remember, and in turn I've helped one or two people find books they were looking for. There's not much discussion aside from the looking for books threads, they don't do a whole lot of chit-chat, but it's a good group to be in.

I'm going to be hosting a group read in the "The Mystery, Crime and Thriller Group" if you are interested in joining us there. The book is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon.

You can view the thread here (but there is very little there at this moment): http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/6...

I hope to pick up the book today or Monday and start posting comments soon.

Almeta turned me to a group that looks like oodles of fun! You take on seasonal challenges and I can't wait to get started trying to meet the ones for this season!
I recommend you check it out!

The Seasonal Reading Challenge group recently posted their Winter Challenge. Almeta and I are joining it. Although, we'll never have the time to read all the books for the challenges, I think we are going to have tons of fun! Come join us!

P.S. - You can kill 2 books with 1 stone by joining in our OWN Winter Challenge by reading books that meet both The Seasonal Reading Challenge group's challenge and ours!

P.P.S! There is another group having a TBR (To Be Read) 24 hour reading marathon starting this Sat the 3rd at 10am EST and ending Sun at 10am EST. Almeta and I are going to hang out together and try to stay up all night reading. Wanna join us? Here is the thread for it from the group that is sponsoring what they called the TBR Toppler.

I've used this group as well, when I couldn't remember the name of a book.

Very helpful.

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 598 comments The TBR Toppler sounds like a fun idea. Not sure how successful I will be with staying up - I might try it.

We aren't likely to make it all the way through without sleeping, but perhaps we will only nap here and there. They are going to have a discussion thread so we can check in periodically. Hope to see you there! Stock up on Red Bull! lol

The Seasonal Reading Challenge is a lot of fun. I managed to get 400 points out of 1100 in the Fall Challenge. My first attempt.

Because of the tasks set forth, I was able to tackle several books that have been sittting on my bookcase at home, and also on my To-Be-Read shelf. In addition, because of the task diversity, I also expanded my reading selections to things that I might not have considered reading.

Good Challenge site, but beware: You'll spend days formulating your plan, instead of reading according to plan!

Rocio (scarlet86) | 50 comments I just kicked out of a group last week because I "wasn't active enough", they even put a new clause that states than in order to keep being a member, you have to post at least x posts on x amount of time !!!

That sux, Scarlet. I lurk in a lot of groups. Just stay in because a) I think I might get active someday, or b)I follow what books they are reading. I can't imagine why a group would be so strict.

message 21: by Rocio (new)

Rocio (scarlet86) | 50 comments Me too, I don't join a lot of groups, I think right now I'm member on 8 or 9. I check all of them every other day, and if I see a topic that I really want to comment about, I do, but most of the time I don't know with what to contribute to some discussions, and simply saying "I second that, or I third that" seems lame. So anyway, I got kicked out :(

Hey all:

Almeta and I belong to ANOTHER challenge group that is even more fun. You get badges for completing challenges. It's a really a great, friendly group.

We've got monthly challenges, half-year challenges, and 24-hour reading Topplers, and much more.

Right now we are doing a 24-hour Toppler that will start at 10 am EST on Saturday, August 18th and will end at 10 am EST on Sunday, August 19th. You pick books to read that meet specific Olympic events and earn points for your team. There are currently 4 teams. I'd like to invite you to join the group AND come join Almeta's and my team, Team North America. You aren't required to read for 24 hours straight, but you do get extra points if you do.

Anyway, come check out this fun group!

You'll love this one...!! A book club & more

Announcing August 2012 Toppler

Mention me in the Toppler discussion if you decide to join. Our team (North America) will get an extra 7 points for your joining the group AND participating in this upcoming Toppler!
