I hope Bran can mind meld with Hodor on a higher level in one of the next books. That was pretty cool.I keep saying you can't count anyone dead in this series until perhaps they're burned??? I still want to know what happened to uncle Benjen.
Really! Are Bran or Rickon even in the next book? I haven't looked at the chapter names, just heard it is pretty much not a Stark-filled book.
I was just excited that it's only 700 and something pages instead of 900. Then again it's actually one book broke into two...so really..were talking some 1400 pages.Egad that's a lot of frickin pages!
I was tempted to get book 4 & 5 and read them together. But I don't think I'd ever finish.
** I just went and saw how many pages book 5 has..
Hardcover, 1016 pages
How can the books be this big and nothing is ever resolved!
GGRRRRR
LOL Kellyflower. I Know! I wonder if we could get Martin to do a Q&A and chew him out over it. Somehow I doubt he'd do it.
I know I'm one of those readers that keeps complaining but then I can't stop reading them, for the hope that maybe SOMETHING is revealed or settled.I just saw some very bad reviews on this next book.
Dany's not in this book at all.Oh and neither is Tyrion?
I have mixed feelings about epic series like this and Outlander. So many things happen, so many ups and downs, and nothing is ultimately resolved. But, when things are finally resolved, that will be the end of the journey, and I will be a little bummed then!I had glanced at some reviews of the latest, and had to stop myself due to spoilery!
That was why I was thinking we should read both books at once so when we really need a fix from characters we don't see in this one we can read a bit from the next. I mentioned they split the book into 2 parts and some of the main characters are missing from the next book. I agree it's pretty sad.
Wow! What an undertaking. Not that I don't think it couldn't be done... But, are you sure there are not any spoilers?
There are a couple of members who read ahead and we can ask to make sure, but I think someone said that you can only go half way through the 5th book and then you'd have to stop.
Well, I'm flexible about it, Lisarenee. Whatever the consensus. As long as someone can tell us were to stop. I must admit, I'm disappointed there won't be some characters in it (and a teeny tiny bit worried I'll drop out). I was beginning to look at it as "work" to get through instead of a story.
I'm going to try to put catch me up points (maybe 1 a week?) in and haven't figured out how to work the two together so we'll probably just read the one book.
My preference would be to read each book separately.Although certain characters are absent in Book 4, we still have Jaime, Brienne, Cersei and Sansa (and others, surely?).
I think by "catch up points" Lisarenee means days where we take a reading break(?).
I'm about 30% through this on audio so far and wish I had more listening time to get through it faster.Anyone else out there left who might want to discuss it with me by any chance??

I'm at 22%, which is Chapter 19, Tyrion. I started reading it last year and had to stop. I hope I'm not so hopelessly lost that I have to start over! I'm going to go slowly.
So, is it just me or should this book actually be called 'The Book Where Everyone is Forced To Get Married'?

Has anyone else seen the tv series too? I think they have sone a great job. Some fantasy book to tv I've seen before is so "B" grade and cheesy but this is big budget and filmed well.

I haven't seen the TV show yet but really want to start it one day when I get some time. So many of my friends have watched it and love it so it's definitely on my to-watch list eventually.

I buddy read them last year, one per month all in a row. I had fantasy burnout after that! I love how you can start out hating a character, but then the author shows you more and then you kind of like them. I answered the DQ's, which helped me stop and think about each section. That helped me keep track better.

I don't recall thinking those chapters were juvenile, but then again I guess I wasn't concentrating on the style as much as the story.
I'm glad Nut Bunny is gone too! (But who knows, maybe she will miraculously survive!!)
