Jessica (jessdaygeorge) | 191 comments Could it be Shards of Honour by Lois McMaster Bujold? It's the first book in the Vorkosigan saga, where the parents of Miles (the hero of most of the other books)meet: she's a ship captain, he's an aristocrat and the commander of the enemy forces.

Rebecca Armstrong (beckiema) | 47 comments i remember that when he goes back he does not expect any or many of this people to be alive and when he is celebrating being back he does not notice that she is put in prison because people only see the uniform she wears and decide to punish her. i think she i beaten or treated cruelly until he finds out and lets her free.

Rebecca--I think I remember reading something similar to this a few years ago. Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of packing up my house, so can't go checking my books. If you want to run a scan on my titles, feel free.

(To do that, click on my icon, then select my books, then you can either scan through all of them, or do a compare--but the compare only shows 100 or so.)

Rebecca Armstrong (beckiema) | 47 comments Thanks I'll have a look through. I can remember the basic story just no names of characters or book title it's so frustrating.

message 9: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Armstrong (beckiema) | 47 comments She a captain in the federation/empire that destroyed the princes home world for resources or something. He lives with the rest if his people in caves and he does a sort of gorilla campaign against her bosses I think.

Ok, finally broke down and went into my own GR book shelf. I know, I know, who does that, right?

But try Susan Grant (author) I THINK it might have been one of her books. She has several series out, all dealing with various things similar to what you are looking for. There is another writer, but I can't remember her name either that does a similar thing. Sigh, it was so much easier when I could just get up from my chair (with a lot of huffing and puffing here lately--my back has been giving me serious problems from all the packing) and walk over to the appropriate bookcase. . . Yes, I DO have my books alphabetized--by author and then alphabetized by series, with the series broken down by proper "place" in the series. And yes, I DO have OCD. But hey, at least I can FIND my books, right? :o)

Rebecca Armstrong (beckiema) | 47 comments It's not that book but it's a very similar style to Susan grant as I have read nearly all of hers

Nuts, your description is ringing faint bells for me but that probably means it's one I read the synopsis for and not one I've actually read. Makes it harder to figure out.

How long ago did you read it? Or do you remember anything about how old it might have been at the time? For example if you read it ten years ago that rules out a lot of more recently published books, helps narrow the field.

Do you remember anything about the cover?

message 16: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Armstrong (beckiema) | 47 comments I'm thinking it was about maybe seven years ago and I think it's had the bog standard staring into each others eyes type cove with maybe stars on. I'm tempted to burn a dan brown book or something worse a a sacrifice to the book god then I might remember.

Rebecca Armstrong (beckiema) | 47 comments I no when they come back to his planet they are on the run or something and he gets swept up by his people happy to see him. The guards see her uniform as that's all the clothes she had and assume she's his prisoner and treat her horribly especially for asking to see him using his name and no title. She's kept in a dungeon/cell and. He's mad when find out and she's like always gonna hate me/never accept me etc

Sigh, I know that I read either this exact book or a very similar one. Unfortunately--I can't go check my shelves, since I'm packing up my books. (All the way up to J now.) And "only" 25 boxes thus far.

This one seems like a long shot but, what about Lord of the Storm Lord of the Storm (Coalition, #1) by Justine Davis by Justine Davis? It has the female pilot element (which ought to make this an easier find darn it) and a planetary resistance movement but I can't tell from the descriptions if anything else is close, it does sound like a good book and it's well reviewed though so it might be worth reading anyway.

or maybe it's sequel the Skypirate The Skypirate (Coalition, #2) by Justine Davis ?

I want to know what this one is too, I think I'll have to read it once it's found.
