3) What is your top read of all time? My favorite book of all time is Afternoon of an Autocrat by Norah Lofts. It has two titles and I guess the one for England is The Devil in Clevely. I do not like that title. I lived in Suffolk for a year and so became interested in Norah Lofts books as she writes mainly about Suffolk.

I still think its a good idea. Sometimes August is just a month in which we tend to go into a slump...at least I do. The humidity is just 14% but at least the temperatures are lower unlike other parts of the country where friends are having 101. I think half of KS might be up here right now based on license plates.

Charly, I like the idea, you were trying to invite/encourage people to stop by and get to know people, and this is a way to get people chatting.

Alice has it right too, it's August and a lot of people are heading back to work or trying to squeese the last little dredges of summer into what little Vacation time they have left. I am sure things will pick up soon.

Another thing I simply love on some other groups are the polls. People do them and then they make comments if they feel like it. Some polls may have 50 comments attached. They are a good way for me to participate when my arthritis is acting up and I find it hard to type.

Where are you from? Born in DC, spent most of my life in MD and currently living in AZ.

What was your top read in the last year? Last year was not a good reading year, not that there were so many bad books but that my concentration level was way-y down. Yikes! just checked my list and it looks rather scanty but I think I got the most enjoyment from a small nonfiction read called The Complete Dream Book.

What is your top read of all time? This is always such a hard question! Narrowing it down to three: Pride and Prejudice, Don Quixote and Their Eyes Were Watching God.

I have never been part of anything on line -- I'm not even on facebook so bear with me as I try to figure this out. The last posting here was Nov 2011 or am I missing something?

Here goes: I live in Chicago. My most recent book read was Dancing to the Precipice and I though it was great. Most recent favorite would have to be Wolf Hall. All time favorite is impossible -- too many -- all wonderful in their own way.

Would like to know if this is still an active site or am I talking to an empty room? Thanks.

Barbara: I was not familiar with Drood so looked it up. It sounds like something I would like to read so will download a sample and see. I am in upper Michigan at the moment with the drizzle coming down but considering we were within 20 miles of a big fire last week, very glad to have the drizzle. Gives me a good excuse to stay inside and read by the fire with my cat and my popcorn!
