Russell Cruse (russellcruse) | 9 comments How would it be if suddenly you realized that the world, far from being a concrete reality, is but a series of probabilities; established, evaluated, discarded and retained as necessary with regard only to the functions and principles of mathematics – a subject about which you know nothing?

Private Lawrence knows, holistically and with absolute certainly, not only where every shell, bomb and bullet unleashed in the conflict will end up; but also, the outcome of the entire war.

And it doesn't look good.

All he has to do now is convince his doctor, his commanding officer and his pal, George that the war is not a chaotic series of disparate enterprises subject to the laws of chance; that effects do not necessarily require causes and that particle/wave duality is merely a diversion on the road to true understanding.

Simple.

The story of Henry Lawrence is told here through the correspondence, private papers and published works of those who knew him.
