wrong author??!!

This book is not written by Samuel Youd, it is by the famous Joh Christopher! What an outrage! Someone please change this!

The author has written under several pen names. Why? Who knows, but John Christopher is one of those. My library doesn't seem to know this.

Youd and Christopher are the same. In the anniversary editions, he writes forwards in all four books and I believe he signs them 'Samuel Youd'. I just got an old copy of 'The Death of Grass', which is under his pen name and was made into a film.

Lot of good stuff in those forwards. For example, he never intended the White Mountains to be the start of a series. Neither did the publisher.

For the prequel, he wrote that as a response to some other science-fiction author who challenged the premise that the Masters could take over humanity.
