I just finished the Help for my F2F book club, so I'd love to chat about it! Our group is taking a 'field trip' to see the movie when it comes out.
Awesome! I'll be reading this one with you, Meghan! I just bought it on my Kindle, thank goodness :). Can't wait to see the movie!!!
i highly recommend the audiobook if you can get it...the story is narrated by 3 different women - the one who does minnie also plays her in the movie
I'm about to start Chapter 5 soon, and I really love the book so far! I love how she wrote it in the dialect, and not all proper and stuff. It makes it so much more realistic! :D
Wow! Ok I was going to start it tomorrow and hope to catch up, but I see I will have no problem with that.
Second:Chapters 6-9
August 4-6
Haha!!!! Z, I just realized that the author that you put in the first post is Kathryn Scott instead of Kathryn Stockett

Also, do you happen to have Girl/Dragon Tattoo in a paperback or is it on your NOOK?

Time for some questions:
1. Who is your favorite character so far?
2. If you lived in that time period, which character do you think you would be most similar to?
3. Do you believe in Ms. Aibileen's prayer?
4. What do you think Minny did during the "Terrible Awful Thing" involving pie to Ms. Hilly?
1. My favorite character so far would be Minny!!!! She is rambunctious and has no stopping her. I think she has a great character and story behind her.2. If I was my own self in that time period, I would probably be most similar to Ms. Skeeter. I was determined to finish college other than the fact that I don't have a huge trust fund to try to pull in a man.
3. I believe in Ms. Aibileen's prayer. I think her prayer is more belief that it will turn out for the good. I think that is what makes hers so special.
4. I hope she shoved a pie into Ms. Hilly's face in all honesty. Or maybe put something into the pie. I don't know what she did but I hope it was something that was well worth hiding.
I am absolutely loving this book by the way!!!! I think that the characters are all very unique in themselves and are very distinctive between one another, which is why I think this book is so easy to read.
@Meghan-- Cool cools. :)1. My favorite character so far is Skeeter. I love how she's so ambitious, and she knows exactly what she wants to do with her life.
2. I would definitely be most similar to Skeeter. She knows that the way things are aren'y right, and it makes me feel a little closer to her through her thoughts. I like how she's not worried about getting married any time soon. She just wants to find a job and be able to care for herself.
3. I honestly just had a blank moment /: ... It'll come back to me.
4. I'm thinking Minny shoved a pie in Hilly's face. Which would definitely be something you keep under wraps.
I'm loving this book as well! The characters really are unique, and I do love a good historical fiction novel :) Plus the movie's coming out in 4 days, so I'm super-excited!
Had to make myself stop reading. I read through chapter 10. Would've read farther if I didn't make myself start reading another book. LOL! :D
Fourth:Chapters 14-18
August 11-13
More Questions up through Chapter 13:
5. What do you think it is that Ms. Celia is hiding from Minny and her husband?
6. If you were a maid in that day and time would you participate in the book that Miss Skeeter is writing?
7. Will you go to see the movie that came out today?
i wanna go and see the movie - its going to be my treat next weekend when i finish up my huge written exam
5. I think that maybe Mrs. Celia is keeping a surprise or something she's working on from Minny and her husband. I'm anxious to find out what it is.6. Would I already have previous knowledge with what I'd read in this book? Because if I did, I would do it, but would be VERY precautious. If I didn't have this book's memory as prior knowledge then I would probably be like Minny. I wouldn't want to do it whatsoever. And if I did-- I'd lay down the law.
7. I want to go see the movie before it goes out of theatres but I'm not sure if my mom will take me or not. She said I have to get the money for the ticket and food on my own. *darn*
5. I had absolutely no idea what Minny was hiding. (I found out in the last few chapters I read). I had a general idea of what she was trying to do, but what was actually happening was a complete mystery to me.6. If I were a maid in that day and time, I don't think I would. It would be too much of a risk for my family and I am sorry even if I was Aibileen I would not have the guts due to pure need for survival.
7. I will definitely go and see the movie. My boyfriend and I are planning on going to the movies next week so we may see this one.
No there is still quite a few chapters...I don't even remember how many. I just kind of kept reading. According to my Nook there is about 100 pages after Chapter 24.
not sure if you guys were paying attention to the news or not - but there was a woman in mississippi who filed a case against KS claiming that Abilene was based on her and that she hadn't been compensated and that Abilene was portrayed in a negative lightthe case was thrown out yesterday by the judge because it exceeded the statute of limitations
I had not heard of that. But from the looks of it some of this book was based off her own life and a non-fiction book that was already out.
Sixth:Chapter 25-28
August 18-20
8. What did you think of all the ladies finally coming together after what had happened to Yule May?
8. I think that it was an endearing reaction to what had happened to Yule May. In all honesty I would also be upset if someone stole something from my house as well even if I never wore it. If I was asked then I would probably have no problem with it in the current times. However back then I would probably act in a similar fashion to Hilly however not to that extreme. I think it was great how Miss Skeeter paid all the ladies to give an account of their story and they all put it together to pay for Yule May's boys to go to school.

On August 1st, Meghan will begin read The Help!!!! Join her in read, then maybe even go see the movie this month :). If you'd like to participate in this BR, just leave a comment on this topic.
