Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I wish there was some more! Although I think it's kinda funny that Spider-Man (Tobey MacGuire) is the one who optioned Turgeon's Mermaid to be a movie. Spiderman loves mermaids, too!

message 52: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) *has a secret love of all things Spiderman*

That's so cool!!!
I'm trying to find out all I can about Empires of the Deep, but I heard it won't be released in the U.S.

message 53: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I'm about to give up entirely on Empires. I've been waiting for movie news for about two years now, and there's nothing out. Apparently, the movie's complete; there's a trailer (very bad quality though) on Youtube.

message 54: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I'll Netflix it and see what's up. It probably would've been really cool :(

message 55: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Ahh, tonight's the next-to-last episode of True Blood! I can't believe it's already time to say goodbye to another season - until next year, which is wayyyy too far away!
They should make the show's motto, "True Blood: Most addicting show on television, but goes by way too fast!"

message 56: by Zoraida (new)

Zoraida | 77 comments I thought I read that Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale had sold its film rights.

I was also wondering if any of you have personal blogs? I like reading blogs.

This is mine: http://dirtypages.blogspot.com/

Yep, it sold film rights! And Spider-man's the one who optioned it. :D
I don't have a personal blog, but I do check out yours frequently, Zoraida. I love it! :D

message 58: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I have a blog!

www.distractedgenius.blogspot.com

In other news (I wouldn't be so kind as to call it news), I was watching Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill over the weekend with my best friend and Daryl Hannah is one of the characters, and I had to resist the urge to scream at my tv that she should be showing up on beaches as a mermaid and not trying to kill Uma Thurman.

message 59: by Zoraida (new)

Zoraida | 77 comments Oh my god! That movie rocks. I think I've only seen it once. But I was blown away.

message 60: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) It's my favorite action movie. Which is saying a lot coming from me. I need to watch it again too.
I think I like Volume 2 a bit better. The first one was a lot more gory (which is z relative term I suppose seeing as it's Tarantino lol) and I don't do particularly well with blood.
But yes, it's awesome :)

message 61: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) So, I just got back from a shopping trip, and I went to nothing but thrift stores. I found a lot of mermaid/ocean-related stuff, so here's some of the books I bought: Swim to Me by Betsy Carter , Dark Life (Dark Life, #1) by Kat Falls , and two Little Mermaid-related books. Then I also bought an old VHS of two episodes from the Little Mermaid TV series. I used to have almost all of them as a kid, so I couldn't resist buying something from my childhood. :)

message 62: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I love thirft stores. In fact, I got my copy of the aforementioned Kill Bill there :)

message 63: by Emily, Merfreak & Tribute (new)

Emily (emilimcg) | 251 comments Mod
Cool! Dark Life is still on my to-read list. I haven't had time to get to it yet.

message 64: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Is Dark Life merpeople or just humans breathing underwater? It's hard to tell from the reviews.

message 65: by Emily, Merfreak & Tribute (new)

Emily (emilimcg) | 251 comments Mod
I think it's just humans that live underwater? Yeah, it was kind of hard to tell.

message 66: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I suppose we'll know when Garrett finishes.
I saw Dark Life at the bookstore a long time ago and thought about it, but you like you said, never got around to it.

message 67: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I think it's people who live underwater, but they have breathing equipment and don't actually breathe underwater. I'm pretty sure, I was flipping through it earlier. And I found one part where they mention mermaids, too. :D

message 68: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) That's fine, either way, it sounds cool.

message 69: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenhooper) | 101 comments Guitar Chick wrote: "I love thirft stores. In fact, I got my copy of the aforementioned Kill Bill there :)"

I love thrift stores too! My mom and I have been finding treasures in thrift stores since as far back as I can remember. :)

message 70: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I've gotten a sweater that look suspiciously like Neville Longbottom's in Deathly Hallows Part 2 at a thrift store, a couplep movies, some paperbacks, ect.
They really are amazing.

message 71: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) So is anyone else addicted to that weird TV show Wilfred? It's got Elijah Wood and Jason Gann and stuff.....I completely love it although it's kind of...erm....dirty.

message 72: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I've seen it advertised, but I didn't know what it was about. And no worries, True Blood's probably a hundred times worse in the...dirty department. :D That show has made me squeamish countless times, but I still love it to death!

message 73: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Wilfred's not gross in the blood way, it's dirty words and some erm....sexy referances, lol. But at it's heart it's incredibly intelligent.

Basically Elijah Wood the Hobbit Boy tries to commit suicide, but after he fails the attempt (He basically just took sugar pills and drank a bottle of Nyquill. It's that lamest suicide attempt ever)he meets this guy in a dog suit (Wilfred), but everyone else who sees this guy in a dog suit thinks he's an actual dog and treats him accordingly. So they go on crazy adventures and do a bunch of drugs and it's hilarious and it makes Hobbit Boy's life better.

message 75: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Lol, it sounds crack-tastic! I'd always wondered what it was about. Thanks, GC!

message 76: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) No prob :) I firmly believe the writer's of the show are on crack or some other drug....

message 77: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) I found some really pretty sculptures a while back to share with you guys!
I really love this one, don't know why, just do. http://www.magicalomaha.com/gjmermaid...
And this is probably the prettiest Ariel sculpture I've seen. http://media.photobucket.com/image/si...

message 78: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) That last one is fantastic! I've always wanted to sculpt, but it's pretty expensive to do, so I pain and stuff.

message 79: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenhooper) | 101 comments Oooh, those are very nice. You should see the awesome Little Mermaid figurine (it's big) that I have. I'm at my boyfriend's but next time I'm home I'll take a pic and post it. :)

message 80: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Thanks, guys! I think so, too. Karen, I can't wait to see it! I saw one that was fairly large of Ariel on a rock combing her hair with the dinglehopper. I really want to get that one someday. :)

message 81: by Randi (last edited Sep 29, 2011 10:05PM) (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I've always wanted a copy of one of the puppets in a Tim Burton stop-motion film. Preferrably Corpse Bride. They're just so amazing. Every little detail down to the last fingernail is just deliciously creepy.

message 82: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) So if you've read the most recent blog post, my favorite food dish, Mexican Chicken, was mentioned. In case any of you wanted to try it, I'm including the recipe in the Random folder.

Mexican Chicken
Ingredients: 1 lb. uncooked chicken breasts
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 Tbsp. butter
1 bag of Doritos, crushed
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can Rotel tomatoes with chilies
1 lb. Velveeta cheese, cubed

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cube chicken. In a large saucepan, combine chicken, onion, and butter. Cook until chicken is no longer pink. Remove chicken and onions from pan. In the same pan, combine both soups, tomatoes, and Velveeta. Simmer until completely melted. Add chicken and onions. Mix thoroughly. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch pan with butter or non-stick spray. Spread 1/2 of crushed Doritos along bottom of pan. Add chicken mixture and top with remaining Doritos. Cook in oven for 30 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes to thicken. Enjoy!

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) YES! DINNER TIME! HA!

Thanks Garrett :) I think I have to cook dinner this Thursday anyway, so this'll come in handy.

message 84: by Garrett (last edited Oct 05, 2011 01:33PM) (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Haha, no problem. :) It's definitely yummy. And for some reason, it tastes even better the next day as leftovers. But it's also filling, which is good, and it serves at least five or six people.

message 85: by Garrett (last edited Oct 05, 2011 05:52PM) (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) So, I'm selling some of my books and stuff for extra cash, books I don't read anymore. I have lots of books similar to the kind most of you read (young-adult paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and the like) as well as possibly a couple mermaid books. If anyone's interested, let me know! I might be able to work something out. :)

message 86: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) What'cha gettin' rid of? I'm interested.

message 87: by Garrett (last edited Oct 05, 2011 06:33PM) (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Here's a list of some of the things I'm selling.
The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa Nevermore (Nevermore, #1) by Kelly Creagh Sisters Red (Fairytale Retellings, #1) by Jackson Pearce Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1) by Cassandra Clare And lots more! All those I mentioned above are in like new conditon (well, the first two TMI books are starting to show age, but COG and CWA are practically new). I figured I'd let you guys get first dibs before I put them on Craigslist or Ebay.

message 88: by Garrett (last edited Oct 05, 2011 06:32PM) (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) Oh, and you might wanna know what mermaid books. The Secret World of Mermaids (Secret World, The) by Francine Rose The Mermaid's Treasure by Stephanie True Peters The Tide Turner by Angela McAllister The Silver Dolphin (Mermaid Curse, #1) by Louise Cooper Real Mermaids Don't Wear Toe Rings by Helene Boudreau Emily Windsnap and the Monster from the Deep (Emily Windsnap) by Liz Kessler Emily Windsnap and the Castle in the Mist (Emily Windsnap) by Liz Kessler Selkie Girl by Laurie Brooks
With some of the mermaid books, it's easy to tell they're used, but some like Real Mermaids and Secret World, could probably pass as new or like new.

message 89: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I got Sisters Red from the Library and enjoyed it. And I've been meaning to read the City of Bones series.

message 90: by Garrett (new)

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) The City of Bones is pretty good from what I've read, but every time I try to read it, I get to the same places and stop. So they've been collecting dust on my shelf.

I was the same way with City of Bones. Someday I hope to finish it.

message 93: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I'd be interested in taking either off your hands Garrett :)
I got City of Bones from the library, but I had so many other hot books on top that I didn't get around to reading it and I had to return it before all the late fees, and it was on hold for someone else and stuff, so I figured it best to just remember sometime else.

If you're interested, I might be able to sell it to you for half off it's original price. And it's paperback, so it'll be even cheaper. :)

Ooh, did you make it? It's delicious!

message 95: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Let me think about it. I'm trying to save all my money type things for Florence and the Machine's new album (it comes out on Halloween in the U.K.) so let me raid my piggy bank...

Garrett (garrettgoodreads) WHOA.

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) That's a high fantasy mermaid right there. Love the liquid flowing-ness of everything.
