Christina I started the series when I was 12. My best friend at the time was reading it and from there on she had me hooked. I enjoyed most of the earlier work. I found after the Landry series ended every series after that became unappealing to me.

Suzy When I was a teenager my mom told me NOT to read this book. Well, I grew up and what did that make me want to do when I came across it? I read it and could not put down the whole series. I LOVE THEM! She didn't like the morals or should I say lack of them in the book and neither do I but I still couldn't put them down.

message 53: by Cat (new) - rated it 4 stars

Cat I loved this book!

Ramona Read the series when I was a teenager and couldn't believe it when after I finished them I realized the books were dedicated " to my mother"....

what was already reality?

Jazmine This series was my only friend my sophomore year of high school.

Santana This book was my first book i ever read when i was 12 my friend gave to me because i was really hyper haha long story short i finished the book eventually with the help of a dictionary since my reading was awful but i was so captured from the first page. Yeah there was the incestuous parts(i hope i say this without being sick) that was kind of the lure to the book too. Something that was so wrong and yet doesn't happened in you're life that you just can't stop yourself from turning the page.
The unknown is always a wonder to every individual. But like everyone knows incest is wrong, there is also a love story and V.C Andrews captors it beautifully...especially when she has you wanting them to be with the one's they love...who is a relative...I KNOW! LOL

Santana Adria wrote: "Sakura wrote: "Its amazing to know that others have read VC Andrews in their teens too. I also read this saga, plus the Dawn saga plus Heaven saga, all of them very disturbing (rapes, incest, cheat..."

I read all the same like you! you start one and you go through the rest lmfao as if you have too! i would go out with my friends to under-age parties since we were still teens and i would be drunk telling them to leave me the hell at home with troy ROFL they were my best friends and hid the book and said he would want to live you're life you nut job hahahahahaha

Santana I read this book in my early teens from a friend who wanted to read and for me to shut up so she threw me this book and once i started i ended up going through all of them.(she was older then me and said it was so fucked up that you just have to keep turning the page) rofl well yip this book grossed me the hell out as well as made me cry like a bitch hahaha all her series did! except for the new crap these days but her original work i just loved

I also had to sacrifice this series when I moved. It still causes a pang when I think about it. I remember reading this book and thinking I was so cool because I was reading such and adult, taboo book and no one was going to stop me from doing so. I wanted to write books just like V.C. Andrews when I grew up. As much as people may trash her books I feel that they were an important part of a lot of teenage girl's lives.

Kirby Licha wrote: " As much as people may trash her books I feel that they were an important part of a lot of teenage girl's lives. "

that's certainly true for me! :)

Michelle I read all of her books when I was 11... My older sister would check them out of the library (cuz I was too young) and I'd read them as she finished. I think my parents would have freaked out had they known, lol.

Michelle Also - if you like VC Andrews, I'd read the book "Cruddy"

When I first read this book, all I could think of is "what kind of mother puts her needs infront of her kids?" Did she ever have any remorese for killing her own child and attmepting to kill off the others. I only wished they could have escaped before Cory died.

Erica Baddeley I also started reading these books when I was about 13 or 14. Even though they have a very "adult" storyline, I think they appeal to that age group because it is a story about kids in that same age group. It is about how they deal with the situation that life has dealt them.

Becky This serious was fantastic, this and the Heaven series !

Katie Sarah wrote: "this was a book that truly opened my eyes to that which was already reality...unless you read mommy dearest.

ok so is mommy dearest like based off of it because i just randomly watched the movie and i though it was a screwed up version of flowers in the attic because the kids were Christopher and Christine but then i realized it wasnt

Elizabeth(The Book Whisperer) I grew up on this, and all of V. C. Andrews books. When I was in middle school, these books were very popular.

This is one of the greatest books I have ever read.

Mommie Dearest is a book written by Christina Crawford about her life with her adopted mother actress Joan Crawford. It is true - not fiction.

Kirby Becky wrote: "This serious was fantastic, this and the Heaven series !"

yeah, I loved the heaven series too!

Michele Brenton I read the Victoria Andrews series in my twenties as they came out. I can't say I thought they were great books compared with classics of literature but they were addictive and certainly the first of their kind.

I'm a bit sorry they seemed to start off a fashion for misery-lit - and over the years various authors have tried to outdo each other with more and more shocking and harrowing stories.

It bothers me that people may get hardened to things and seek worse and worse stories to satisfy their desire to read about suffering.

Sometimes I wonder if there are people who think stuff like this is not so bad in real life because they read about it first and it makes them feel it is a little bit less of a step to actually behave that way themselves.

I hope that doesn't happen - but it is a worry that disturbs me sometimes.

Elizabeth(The Book Whisperer) I loved the Heaven series. V.V. Andrews died during the end of this series. The books written under her name since then
have been by ghost writers.

Lauren I loved the series too! However, when brother and sister started living as husband and wife, I got a tad grossed out.

Christy when i was twelve-ish i saw a peice of the movie and my mom told me about the books. my mom said at the time i was too young and immature(with my reading level i would have had no problem reading the series)but now I'm sixteen and have recently read these books and i'm grateful my mom told me to wait. Instead of grasping the meaning and the feelings, i would have felt awkward and it would have wrecked the series for me which now i absolutley love

Christy One of the reasons i love these books are becouse of the rare topic It was a completly new experience to me!

Alissa Sik-Amundson This book is my favorite book. Ever. <3

Kirby the sequels to this one are good, too. another great series of hers starts with Heaven, and My Sweet Audrina (a stand-alone) is probably my favorite of all the ones she wrote.

Sharon I have had the whole set on my shelf for years... amongst my 'I will never part with collection ' to re-read every so often .I love them , interested to see if the NEW Virginia Andrews book -Darkest hour , is as good . Found it in a charity shop . Any thoughts or opinions on this book ?

message 80: by Jeni (new)

Jeni I have always seemed to have this book in my library!

This series, Heaven, and Dawn were my favorites of VCAs, but my favorite book of hers was My Sweet Audrina.

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

I was really fascinated by this series as a young teenager in the 80's. I couldn't put them down, although a lot of what happened was completely alien to me at the time (Rape, Incest), I just had to see what happened to the kids after they escaped and how they dealt with their past and how they would face their future. How they would come to terms with what they had done and also what their parents and grandparents had done.

The book My Sweet Audrina, a stand alone title is also one of my favourites.

Corrine makes Mommy Dearest look tame.Lol

Connie J.estrada If you stop and think about it, Corrine makes Mommy Dearest look sweet and tame, she at least allowed her kids to be out and about.

Laura I read this book WAY to young when i look back at it. I remember hiding it from my mother even though she wasnt a reader and had no idea what was in it. I soon became obsessed with the whole series, the heaven series (troy!), and the ruby series. I read dawn and one other one but didnt like them that much.
These books are what started my love for reading without a doubt. They transport you. I wanted to be Cathy when she was dancing, but not any other time! lol
They are really kinda messed up but i dont care :) I would not let my daughter read them until she was older. lol these books were my "birds and bees" conversation. haha
