MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Anybody else watching Alphas on the "SyFy" (ugh) network? I have been boycotting the "SyFy" network(ugh) but hubby has a fetish for all bad TV shows ever. He really likes superheros and detective shows and (to him) this combines the best of both worlds.

To me, I can't quite get past the fact that it's on the "syFy" (ugh) network.

♥Meagan♥ (fadedrainbows) | 29 comments I like it. It's not that bad. And we watch SyFy a lot. We like Eureka and my boy is a big fan of the SG:1 reruns.

I've watched a couple episodes of Alphas now, and i'm just not impressed.

message 4: by ♥Meagan♥ (new)

♥Meagan♥ (fadedrainbows) | 29 comments I'm not that impressed, either. But, I will watch it if it's on.

message 5: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Yeah, I'm feeling the same way. If it's on and there's nothing else I can talk him into watching...

But I'm also biased. It's not the greatest. But I love the guy who reads electrowaves. He's my fav.

YES YES YES. Gary is my heart. Being a future Special Ed teacher and him being autistic soothes my soul. It is very rare for tv shows to have characters with disabilities. And they do the autism thing so well without him being ridiculous.

S.J. Lewis (sjlewis) | 469 comments I watched the first episode, and while I liked some parts of it, other parts required me to suspend my disbelief far too high. I haven't watched it since.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I pretty much started watching this show for the guy who plays Gary - I liked him from Bones. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have bothered, since it's yet another X-Men rip-off.

So far I'm not that impressed, but I'm willing to give it a few more episodes to find it's stride. I do DVR it ('cause I DVR everything), but it's definitely the last thing on the list that gets watched.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I've been meaning to watch it, but I keep missing it.

MrsJ, I am pretty annoyed at SyFy, and I think a lot of their new shows aren't great. I hate their format changes.

That's part of my issue, too. I think their quirks and whatnot are meant to be endearing, or give them complexity or something - but, mostly, they just end up being annoying.

Personally I like Gary the best, even though he's annoying, because at least he's kind of funny sometimes. How much of that has to do with my aforementioned preference for the actor, though, is hard to judge.

All of this ^

S.J. Lewis (sjlewis) | 469 comments SyFy often throws a bunch of cliches together and imagines that it has a show. 'Alphas' put me in mind of a very low-budget X-Men.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I really, really dislike the ex-cop guy. I mean, the others are pretty meh but, as I said, I'm willing to give the show, and the characters, a chance to grow into their own. But I can't stand patronizing men...

I think that he (as an actor) got a raw deal the whole way around. The character sucks and his power sucks. Having super strength is cool and all...but not when it comes with super sweat and the threat of a heart attack.

Every time I see him, I see this scene:

and then I just want to watch the whole movie again.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Um, thanks for that, Ala. I'll never see him, in the show, the same way now.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

My work here is done.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Is there chaos, panic and disorder?

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

You lot have never seen Cool Runnings?

message 20: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Lol I have :)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I have, but it's been awhile.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

There's nothing like a bowl a chips, a bowl of... uh... something smokable *shiftylook*, and an evening spent watching Cool Runnings.

It's a great way to unwind.

message 23: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon (last edited Jul 28, 2011 09:14AM) (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) It sort of seems like the movie or show of choice is almost a moot point for unwinding once we have the chips and the shifty... (except I'll take popcorn or asteroids over chips).

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

See, that's where people make a mistake. The movie of choice has a real impact.

Pop in something action filled and it almost kills the mood. Pop in something too harsh, comically speaking, and you can ruin the feel too.

Gotta have something right in the middle in order to maintain.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Fair point. I wasn't considering the fact that other people may have harsh things in their movie collection. Mine's pretty laid back all around.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Mine's all over the place, much like my mind.

what little there is of it
