I read this book 30 or 40 years ago as a teenager or in my early twenties. A small group of humans returns to the original earth which has been abandoned. The technology there is still intact and is amazing. They are pursued by ships from the now dominant colonies sent out from earth. "Old Earth's" defense systems are still intact and the threatening ships appear as lights on their screens. When the hero pushes a button, all the lights blink out. Basically the end of this book. There was undoubtedly a second book and perhaps a third book. All these years I've assumed I would stumble across the book sometime or someplace. At the time, I never took notes or wrote anything down. Thanks for any help you could give me.

Ok, it might not be it, but I THINK what you are after is a book by Andre Norton called Star Rangers . It was not the first book of a series. Actually it was kind of the LAST book, since it was part of a loosely grouped set of sci-fi stories.



This is 2 of the covers for this book. There are others, but these are the most recent.
