I thought they were a good way to tell us a little of their pasts, plus it gave uo lots of insights about each character. I thought all the dreams were very enlightening.

Shelley (shelley69) | 597 comments Ummmm LOL more like acid trips!! That honey was like a poppy honey or that was the way I thought of it cause it made ALL their PAINS go away, and like an acid trip, the trip went bad!! :D

those dreams were so wild...especially after the tension that got built up with the crawling...I think SE did a good job of showing the claustrophobic atmosphere of the tunnels. and with Koryk singing his Seti 'child-death' song...eerie. Although it did seem to help some of them

Amelia (narknon) | 523 comments Erikson didn't show us what any of the children were dreaming. Will that be significant later? I would think that the poppy-honey stuff affected them just as much as it did the soldiers.

David (davk) They seemed to be rather young (younger than Kettle, Grub and the likes), I pretty much doubt that they'd be able to comprehend anything at all, especially some god-ish dreams.

It's funny though that they've found the "honey" directly (more or less) below a temple of the Queen of Dreams.

Good point. They still may have dreamed though, perhaps more innocent dreaming. Were the children taken in for the Olive Oil Goddess (can't remember her name) - or the Queen of Dreams? Wasn't the Queen of Dreams a new goddess for that temple? Wonder how that worked with the honey being there because it was really old. Perhaps the ruins underneath the recent temple was really for the Queen of Dreams, so perhaps the Queen of Dreams was just taking back one of her temples.

Corabb seemed to know what it was though...maybe its some special 7 cities kind of stuff, but he reocgnized, although too late to warn anyone as he was the last one down after helping Fiddler

message 59: by Amelia (new)

Amelia (narknon) | 523 comments It's briefly mentioned that Corabb and Leoman were both orphans taken in by the temple and taught some sort of rite or maybe a meditation of sorts. Leoman, apprarently was kicked out before the training was finished. But it seems like Corabb finished his training. That was before the Malazan conquest of the city - so it was under the Olive Oil Goddess' Priest. (That felt like a mouthful and I didn't even say it out loud.) Anyway, when Corabb recognized the honey, I though it was because of his training and time spent in the temple.

I keep wondering about Faradan Sort...what is up with her that she figured out why Sinn was so stressed, and then deserted so that they could try and rescue the bonehunters....she didnt seem the type really.

I like when we saw Paran getting involved here...now we know he presence means something huge is about to happen...and who told him to come here? Kruppe!!! I love Kruppe! a nice appearance!

What did you all think about the Jaghut woman showing up? That Paran is enlisting the Bridgeburners to help hunt down this monster that is after Icarium bodes all kinds of action!

Lee (kiwifirst) Wait, what?! Did I miss some pages?
One minute Mappo is talking with Icarium, then next time I read about Icarium he has a new friend and Mappo is lying at the bottom of a cliff after fighting a demon? There was nothing in between these two events.
Perhaps I did skip a chapter?

So onto Truth and Gesler. Truth was not much of a character really, he played a bit more of a role when Felisen was baiting him on Salanda, but since then, he was the 'other one' with Gesler and Stormy. So I hardly thought anything of him running into the fire.
Gesler on the other hand, I wondered what had happened to him, I assume he has already ascended, as it was mentioned some time before, the fire doesn't harm him and yet he does nothing during the escape of the city. I didn't realise he was still with the group scuttling through the tunnels since he wasn't mentioned, or did anything to help.

If you told me in Gardens of the Moon that Fiddler would be a fundamental character through to the 6th book I wouldn't have believed you. His character keeps going and going.

Bottle is an interesting one, hasn't given us much to go on, just secrecy about his past. He believed he was geting guidance from his mother/grandmother? but now has begun to suspect that could be from an alternate source.

Just witnessed the first cracks in the Kalam/Ben friendship! Does this portent a rift? (you dont have to answer that )

You didn't miss anything there. That was pretty much my reaction too.

tI dont have my book with me, but there has been a monster with 6 bodies named jim or something like that? They got into a fight with it, (set up by Icarium's new timekeeper, who was hired by the nameless ones (Sister spite and gang))

I defiantly had to reread that passage several times myself Lee! But it is as Maggie says the Nameless Ones early in book one choose a new handler for Icarium so he will do as they wish, Mappo was always leading him away from conflicts and the Nameless Ones want to use Icarium.

Ges and Stormy feel responsible for Truth, like he is their younger brother, he was a good strong friend and in war you feel every loss hard. I love that they do, the ones that act like it's no big deal, never cared in the first place!

Friggin love Fiddler! :) And Bottle is a great character, Fiddler's shaved knuckle! :)

Saying nothing about nothing!
