I had mine in a box for a long time, but then we bought some Ikea shelves for our DVD's and there was extra room so I stole it for my reading books. I'm organizational nerd and have to have the in alphabetical order by author. I have the first half books to read, then books I've read. When there is a series, its in order of release. When I was in school I had another shelf of textbooks and organized by what I was using. Then I have another bookshelf that I don't know how its organized because i cant get to it. My movies are also in alphabetical order. Stand along movies, and TV shows are separate.
Mine are grouped by genre/category, and ordered by size on the shelf. I *love* how shelves look when books are organized by color, so I think I'll be reorganizing sometime. :-)
I have 4 bookcases in my livingroom which is full...I arranged by genre and within that I put series first then stand alone books. Not complete satisfied by it so looking for good suggestions here.
Mine doesn't really have an order, but usually has the ones I haven't read yet clumped together and the rest are wherever they fit! But I kind of live in two places so i've just got books EVERYWHERE! lol.
Heh...I arrange mine by genre, and then alphabetically by author. My medium bookcase has mostly classics and literary fiction. I have a smaller one with just YA and fantasy, paperbacks (by author) on the upper shelves, hardcovers on the bottom. Then I've got dictionaries and foreign language texts on my desk surface, writing research books in a desk cubby, then all my non-fiction books (arranged by topic and then author...LOL) in the big bookcase in another room. Annnnd...I've got two boxes of books in one closet, another shoved under a desk, and some in the garage. Yeah. I've got too many books. And I'm slightly too obsessive about arranging them. But at least I don't have them arranged by Library of Congress number, like my dad arranges his..... O.o
My books are arranged by series and subject, also by like and ok. The books i enjoyed are in the higher shelfs while the others that are okay are on the lower shelf, weird i know :)
Becki same here, hope theres room if not i make room, i have a one wall in my bedroom with shelves that was filled a while ago, so i had my hubby make shelves all the way around the the living/dining room (just one long continuing shelf that is at the top of the room), and that is full as well, so now i'm buttering him up to do the shelves on the other three walls in my room. If I can i will try to put the picture. But he did a really good job. Oh and don't tell OCD Kay (she won't be able to sleep haha), but i have no organization, i tried but it's to much work, as long as i know where they are, i'm good.
I dont own much books, cuz i get my books from library most of the time, but the ones i do have, i stuff em in mybookcase, not in any order or anything!
All the books I've read are on my bookshelf in alphabetical order by the author's last name, and the ones I haven't read are in a big stack behind my nightstand that drives my grandparents crazy (I live with my grandparents). The ones I'm reading are everywhere ranging from lying open on my pillow to stuffed in teh messy depths of my locker where I have to cause an avalanche to get at them.
Oh and the ones I don't think I'll ever read are with the ones I've read (my family doesn't understand me when I try to tell them that I don't like adult murder mysteries that have cats everwhere, or when I give them a list of books that says 'wish list' at the top that means I actually want them.
I usually organize them by format (Hardcover, ARC, or Paperback) but I recently changed it to the books that I need to read first go on the top shelf, then continue on down until the shelf ends. My other shelf holds all the books that I have read. It's easier for me to pick out a book now because I know which books I should read and that way I can finish them before they get too "old," if you know what I mean. :)
It is a really good idea! I have a huge pile of those in my nightstand and I have a bunch of post-it notes on my door with book I must review ^^
I have two book cases, there not completly packed but there is alot there, got loads of books to read.. :(
I have lots of bookcases three standing ones, where I keep all my series books and anything not historical fiction. My biggest one holds all my hardcovers. Then I have a long bookshelf mounted on one wall of my room where I keep all my historical fiction books in chronological order (I am OCD about that because I'm a huge history buff :P) Then I have a TBR shelf where all my library books or books I have not read yet go. It's usually overflowing. I try to keep my books as neat as possible but when I run out of room, they end up stacked on the floor until my dad builds me a new shelf :P I'm almost up to that point again.
Each member in my family has about three shelves for their books. And the other shelves have books which don't really belong to anyone exclusively. My books are stacked according to size (I know, weird). One shelf has my favourites. Another my old childrens' books which I don't want to give away.
But every room in my house has 20 scattered books anyway.
I have MANY bookshelves in my room, and they're pretty organized. There is my "Favorite" bookshelf which is in the middle of my room, above the computer, and it's basically two bookshelves currently, each holding about 10-15 books. In the same place I have my "series" bookshelf, which is where I put the series that hadn't gotten into my favorite shelf (I believe this will eventually turn into another favorite, when I run out of place on the two I have, and those series will be moved someplace else)
Then I have a really big and tall shelf of "Books I haven't read yet". I arrange them in two stories so I could see all I have.
Above that one I have books in English I wouldn't be reading again, and one shelf (with two floors, as well) for books I got from my mom's friend, mostly Si-fi.
I have another bookshelf for book I've read in my own language. Again, two stories.
This is my room. All books are arranged by size, unless it's a series from different editions and then I put the series together.
My mom has a small bookshelf in her own room for her favorite, and a big bookcase in the living room for the rest of the books.
My brother have four small shelves for books, but he hasn't read most of them!!! I arrange them cause he's messy xP I'm still trying to make him like reading. Reading used to be very difficult for him, so he's still a bit put off from reading. Working on changing that!
And that's my detailed description of my bookshelves! :D
Bored you to death?
Before when I was younger it was just stuff the shelves since I only had 2 book shelves. Now I have four, so my novels are ordered alphabetically by author's last name so I can have some hope of finding my book again. With my manga it is alphabetized by title. But now my bookshelves are full so books are now being stacked on the floor until I can fins more space....
I put them randomly on my shel, kind of according to when I got them, and then akso by series. Like all the mortal instrument books go together. My shlef isn't very organzed. Hee hee :)
usually by genre or size. I'm dull =(

That is awesome!!!
My shelf are I guess by size and genres. Cause you don't want to put between shades of gray and fifty shades of gray next to each other. It seems wrong on some level. Lol.

And this takes the cake for best organisation of a bookshelf.
My shelf is arranged by colors and genre's. I've run out of space on my bookshelf, which is massive, so i've had to make some shelf's in my room. Tbh they're pretty much full too, and before soon i'll have to start stacking them up under my shelf! :L
I have several bookshelves and every one of them is overflowing. I hate to say it but they need to be organized by someone that is not me! I'm no good at it. I may have to go to Kindle just because of space, but I love holding real books so much! :)

They're so easy to hold, they have a lot of space for books, depending on which one you get. But they are really good :D

My room is really small also. When I get out of my mini apartment I plan on making my own little library (at least I tell myself that ^_^)
I'd love to have something like this:

Hmm, haven't thought about that. Quite randomly I guess. I put series together, my favorite books in the best spot and then arrange all of them according to the size of the book.

THAT'S SO NICE, I WANT THAT!!!
THAT'S SO NICE, I WANT THAT!!!
I like to arrange my book by genre and by author...some are on shelves, some in the box,and some on a reader.
I arrange my shelf into:Dark Contemporary, Cyberpunk, Atompunk, Nanopunk, Steampunk, Deiselpunk, Biopunk, New Adult, Research, Issue Novels, Contemporary Speculative, Military SF.
And yes, I'm a scifi girl.
My books aren't in any particular order. Sort of ish by how much I like them? All books by the same author are clumped together. I do have my favorite series higher up on the shelves. Idk, I just automatically remember where I placed a book on my shelf.
There's no real organization, but I like to keep books of the same author together, and the series together, but other than that it's a free for all.
i just put my books randomly, my bottom shelf is in the order of when im going to read them. And my top shelf is just awesome books I haven't come to yet in a random order.

I change it depending on the height of the books, the colors, sometimes depending on my mood :P
