Your Bookshelf
We have a small library worth of books in our basement that my mom alphabetizes by author. Back before we had so many books and I had my own bookshelf I just jammed books in randomly.

I just found out my dad has his bookshelf by country O.O
Russian Authors, Chinese Authors, American Author, etc.
Russian Authors, Chinese Authors, American Author, etc.
My bookshelf is pretty standard...well, I suppose it's more complicated than you guys, though. XDI have one, wicker, bookshelf in my room. I only put my FAVORITE and sentimental books there. It has my entire Goosebumbps collection, my entire Nancy Drew collection, and my Mortal Instruments and Pendragon collections as well. These are the ones I hold most dear, so I keep them there for easier access.
My other bookcases, I arrange first by series title (if it's in a series). So, the first series I have is the Alex Rider series. After the series books are all on the shelf, I organize the singular books by author's last name, like at any library. And then all my "resource" books are very last, including word search books, tip books, etc. And to top it off, I have some Great Illustrated Classics after those, on a separate shelf.
Man, I have a LOT of books. I'm the only one in my family who really reads; I'm converting my brother's old room into a library, so hopefully I can move everything down there. (:
I actually own a Kindle so mine are organized on there by collections (or folders). I have series in a collection by their series names (i.e. Chicagoland Vampires) and then I have general collections for single books like Chick Lit or Mysteries, that sort of thing.I have replaced a lot of my paperback and hardbacks with Kindle books. It is just so much nicer having everything on one device and taking up less room.
I have two tall bookshelves from Ikea. On one, the bottom two shelves are the small, thin books that I used to read when I was younger but still want to keep for nostalgia's sake. The other bookshelf's bottom row has the thick, heavy books like Harry Potter and my dictionaries. Asides from that, my shelves are pretty random, but I know where everything is. :D
well i'm the only one who actually organizes my books. my family just puts them in bookshelfs in random piles. the 39 clues series has different authors so i put them first on my shelf then it's organized alphabetical order by the authors last name =D
My shelfs are also from Ikea ^^. My whole room is from Ikea now that I think about it. My house is part Ikea part Costco xD
@Book Elf, lol, ken likes to read ^^

I'd post the pictures here but, they are a few to many O.O

Wow! I wish my parents let me buy books I like... Your collection is really cool though!
I organize mine by series of books, then all the books not in a series get put in order of preference :)
I organize mine first by hardback or paperback, and then from there I do by size. It really irritates me that some books in the same series are different sizes but it irritates me more to see a tall book next to a short one.
I organize my books at my mom's house alphabettically. At my Dad's I usually stuff them on my step mom/brother's bookshelf. I don't really have much space there. Read a lot of library books when we're there. I have a kindle but I keep getting books as presents, there's not really much on there.

i arrange them by design to! :)
My bookshelf is organized by my shelves on here. It's a bunch of cubes. One cube has books someone gave me that I haven't read yet. One cube has my Fluke, Davidson and Coyle books in order. 2 more have my finished books. One has to read books. The last book cube is large hardcovers that I want to keep nice, so they aren't jammed in anywhere.

By design really makes then part of the room decoration :)
I actually just re-designed my shelves, still by design and color thought :))

I arrange my books by how I like them, for instance, all my favorite books are on the top shelf, second shelf are ok books, and third shelvers are to-read or horrible-couldn't-even-finish books.
I don't own a bookshelf :( (i'm inbetween houses) I have 3 huge boxes full of books stored at my mums house. All my favs came with me & all the books have have bought since packing. So my books are pilled up on my bedside table, my dressing table, on my tv unit & some are in random places, their is no organisation to it at all, aside from if its on the bedside table i am reading it or just finished with it.

Me too! I don't have barely any! D: Just very few.
I have, like, one shelf on my bookcase for my books that i've read. But i'm weird and take off the covers for hardcover books and put them on a different shelf. The remaining 2 shelves are full of books i gave up on, haven't read, old school books, and other unidentified subjects.
I have three bookcases, one big one with cubes and two small ones with two shelves each. There's not much structure in it, except for the fact that I have all my adult stuff together in three cubes, all my Harry Potter books are together in another, and series go together. I keep my hardcovers seperate from my paperback books because I don't like the look of them mixed together. And I have a spot on one of the shelves for my favorites :) But I don't organize by color, author, genre or whatever :)
Torie wrote: "Book Elf; I love your picture! That rocks! :D"Thanks, Torie. I now have added a 2nd and 3rd level of my headboard shelf...The top shelf consist of all Hardbound arranged by series. The second level are stacked by 3s, so i picked all Trilogy books to go there. Then the original, which is the picture above are all paperback series.
Artemis wrote: "Wow! I wish my parents let me buy books I like... Your collection is really cool though!"
Thanks Artemis and Cassidy...I just hunt for sale books, but if I really like the book I buy it anyway, especially for the series that I collect.

indeed he does..hehe.. apparently, he is not Ken. ^_^
Abbi I rearrange every time I buy a new book. Sometimes I get lucky and don't have to but most of the time I end up having to redo a lot of shelves.
Abbi wrote: "Does anyone else obsess over their bookshelf and rearrange often? Or am I the only one that's ridiculously obsessed with this sort of thing?"I do, and i stare at it most of the times just admiring it...
I put all my books in boxes, depending on the author, or if it's a series or a stand-alone. I put my books in boxes so they won't have dust all over them.
My bookcase used to be alphabetised, but then friends borrowed books and I didn't have enough room on my bookcase so now it's mostly alphabetised bar my really large collections of authors who have piles going up my stairs and on the top of my bookcase.
I change it every couple of months.Sometimes I arrange it by color (I really don't know why). Then by genre or author.
And right now... the books lie where there is a spot. No logical arrangement at the moment...
I need a new bookcase!
Well I have a buffet full (I don't mean a buffet table :D)of books and two bookshelves. There used to be some rhyme and reason to the order of them, but since theres too many of them its more of a matter I hope theres room for you somewhere.
hmmm, I just have a small bookshelf, that is why I have books everywhere!!! the top shelf is my to-read piles, then I have them arranged by series in no particluliar order.
Same here, Eva. I really don't know how to arrange my books. Right now, they're sort of a mess. I badly need a new bookshelf too. The old one's getting a bit crowded.
I have so many big bookshelves but they are almost empty. They used to be full of my dad's French books but I emptied them! I don't like reading books in the French language. I'm a new book maniac and I entend to set my special and very own English bookshelves. Best luck for me.
My bookshelf is hmmm....i'm not sure how to say the size. I'll find a picture! http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&...
i suppose its like that....but mine is largerr
And its completely full. Actually I took out ALL the childrens books (like 300) and its still overflowing with books.

My mom's bookshelf is as they come. She just trows them in there and naturally never finds them. my friend is by theme - pixies, vampires, etc.
I'm no control freak but more like a design freak, I have them by colors and I have a section for pretty covers ^^
How do you arrange your bookshelf?
