What makes you inordinately sad?

I want to un-see that picture, too, Helena!!
And I want to stomp the photographer's ass!
My mini dachshund, Limp 'bizkit', suffering a permanent limp due to the abuse he received from the breeder we got him from makes me sad. It also makes me sad to have to sit by helplessly while he has yet another seizure. Poor puppy.

I wish I hadn't seen that picture either because of what it implies. Pictures don't always tell the whole story, though. One assumes that the ducklings fell into the grate. But, if you notice, one duckling is standing beside her mother and the remaining COULD be behind her and not in the picture. I've decided that's what happened.

I'm going to say the whole sequence has been photoshopped. Grate and ducks photographed separately.

As far as I can tell, this picture is real and all but one of the ducklings were rescued by the photographer. The story is at the bottom of this link: http://www.queensu.ca/security/graphi...

I'm driving a loaner from work (yay for working at a multi-dealership company), but driving away with Trix looking all pathetic and broken in the lot made my eyes water.
I'm sad that she isn't working, I'm sad that she's not worth it to fix her, I'm sad for all of the fun times I had in that car that I won't have again, I'm sad for the awesome rides I took in her... to and from Tucson for college, DD duties from 4th street to our house on Mabel in Tucson, zipping around with ex-boyfriends, driving super fast to the beach in the snow when my grandma was dying and my grandpa needed a friend, bringing Pippa home for the first time on my lap, and carting around a good friend who died recently and who will never ride in my new car.
I hate it.

Cruelty in any form.

So true, but who prepares the kid on how to handle the bully? The ones that are picked on are usually the shy, backward kids to begin with. Some learn that bullies, as you suggested, are cowards and respond accordingly while others are traumatized.

Point taken, Arminius. Admittedly, that first step is the toughest. Bullying makes me see red.

My aunt shared this with me one time (her BFF made it up): "The meek have the ability to stomp you in to tomorrow, but have the calmness of spirit to decide not to..."

Intolerance and ignorance really steam me. Especially intolerance based on ignorance.

I question what my sanity would be if I continually saw this suffering and could do nothing. I imagine my head would be full of demons, also.

I'm with you, Charly. It's painful to me to hear about children and young people dying. I'm terribly sorry.

1. my friend's ex-boyfriend shot himself... he had over 2000 people in attendance at his funeral - biggest sweetheart bear huggin' fella you could ever meet
2. another friend's 7 year old niece was killed in a car accident - her dad was driving drunk. she was supposed to be the flower girl in my friend's wedding in 2 weeks.
3. another friend's teenage nephew was killed in a car accident. it was his 17th birthday.
also, wednesday was the anniversary of the day my friend's nephew died. he was only 4 years old... beat the leukemia, but an infection killed him. his little brother was born last week just two days before this anniversary. my friend's birthday will always be the day after this sad anniversary.
please... no more death for a long while. a long, long while.
Real Housewives.
