I just want to say, that when I read this book, I had the feeling of a "whoa" moment. It was philosophical, in a way, and the only way I can describe this feeling is "Whoa, this book is deep."

I felt the same way. It really made me think of how lucky we are to have choices and fundamental freedoms. I was not happy with the ending. I felt like it left me hanging and confused. But then I read the next book "Gathering Blue" and it all made more sense. I loved this book. I loved it more after I read the next one.

This is a VERY good book, although as dystopias go, I've read better (Shadow Children is an obvious comparison). The ending disappointed. I know there are sequels, but I felt the reader deserved a real, self-contained ending instead of the cliff hanger after investing time and emotions in the story.

Read the third one "The Messenger" it ties the first and second one together. I think I like each of the books in different ways but the second one made me think the most and left lasting impressions.

That's a surprise to me since from reviews on Amazon it seemed the books got worse after the first. I guess I should finish the series after all.

I feel so ignorant for saying this, for not knowing this, but...There is another book? WHAT? I will be looking into it!

There are two others. It's okay I didn't know for a while...it's not too obvious...at the fault of the author.

I've checked on some reviews and it seems the other two books are not as good, so I prefer to not spoil the impression of The Giver and leave it alone.

Definitely one of my favorite books of all times. I loved the depth and hidden meaning within it. Said so much and makes you grateful in a way you never thought possible, I think.

![Hanna[h] Cumberbatch](https://images.gr-assets.com/users/1403470362p1/4536256.jpg) Eacactly. And I actually enjoy the cliff hanger at the end. I mean it's like you get so close to the characters and you want to know that they have a happy ending, but in the end, it's like the author specificly wanted YOU to choose how The characters ended. That way everyone can just live on with how they think it was instead of "I think it should have went like...." you know? And I mean sure it buffs me sometimes not knowing EXACTLY what happened, but it gives me a deep craving for more of her books hoping that there will be an ending. And that's when you KNOW that the Author did her job, when you can't get enough.
