I'm reading 'AFRAID" by Jack Kilborn. Gory, scary and uber-creepy. I'm really enjoying it!

"Afraid" is not available on Kobo (for whatever dumb reason) so I got it from my online library service. I finished it yesterday, it was great. I love Jack Kilborn/J.A. Konrath, have you read "Origen"? Great story and I think there is or will be a sequel :)
Glen wrote: "I'm reading DarkNet by John R Little. John is quickly becoming a top-5 favorite writer for me."When did that come out, Glen? I love that guy. I'm off to look it up. :)
I'm waiting on the new SK book and still reading 'Salem's Lot.
DarkNet comes out November 21st. Since I'm a member of the HWA, I'm reading it for Stoker consideration. I'll probably buy a print copy when it's available.

I like most Konrath/Kilborn books, save for the sci-fi ones. Not a fan of those but the creepy/gory ones are pretty good ;)
P.S. I just started "REVIVAL" by Uncle Stevie. Right from page 1 it felt like good ol' fashioned King, I'm so excited to get into it.

Hi, Ila. I think Kin is worth about 10 of all those other books you listed. :)

He has a new collection of short stories coming next November. Wouldn't surprised if he publishes a novel before that, too

"KIN" was another book that had me right from the start, as was the entire Timmy Quinn series. Kelean is a master storyteller :-)

Steph, he is indeed. :)

I just read more this morning and found it more interesting. I think my problem was that I was reading at night and sometimes too tired to give it proper attention. I knew it didn't seem right, because I love Native American lore and anything supernatural, so Black Hills should be a win-win for me.

That makes sense. That's why I usually give books a second chance.
It's bound to happen, I suppose. I own a couple of his science fiction novels, and they don't do anything for me.
I'm a Simmons fan but have shied away from The Abominable because I too heard it was more of a climbing story than anything else. Jon, are you talking about the Hyperion books? I loved those. :)
I have HYPERION and ILIUM.I keep trying, although I've never been a big fan of science fiction to begin with.
I know you do. :)
Jon Recluse wrote: "It is a bit heavy on the historical climbing techniques.Mountain climbing by Tom Clancy."
Oh thank goodness I am not the only person who can't handle Clancy's endless descriptions of how things work! I loved spy/espionage novels like Jack Higgins, John LeCarre, etc. but Clancy just did me in when he described in detail just about every knob, screen and button on a submarine in one book. I quit about 100 pages in.
Sad to hear Abominable is abominable, though. I was hoping it was another The Terror. I also don't care much for hard core scifi so I avoid the Hyperion novels. I much prefer fantasy, esp dark fantasy like Charles De Lint or epic fantasy like George RR Martin with the occasional Terry Gilliam thrown in for lighthearted fun.
Kealan, I'd ask why you didn't like Black Hills but I suspect it will colour my own opinion as I am reading it, so for that reason alone, I will wait until I am done and come to my own conclusion.

Yeah, Clancy is a piece of work.....hiding novels inside technical manuals....
I really like De Lint!
