Especially Night Shift and Skeleton Crew. Well, I think they are all great, but those are the more "horrific" offerings of his short fiction.
LOL, all of those King works are excellent! I'm excited for Jack and Jill, but also the sequel to The Shinig.
Jack and Jill looks like it'll be great....and currently reading The Five
Kealan wrote: "I thought DARK HOLLOW, THE KILLING KIND, THE WHITE ROAD, and THE WHISPERERS were standouts."I love the Charlie Parker's series. One of my faves.
Right now I'm dividing my time between Strega by Vachss, and Every Dead Thing by Connolly.
I'm in a damaged sleuth mood.

Check out the trailer with Scarlett johanson. Feels a bit like Lynch. Very unnerving. Book is interesting so far. Halfway through it. Ill check back in.

Every time he uses simile, I think, "I wish I wrote that."

I reread his stuff just to enjoy his use of the language.
His short stories are amazing, too.
I'm a Vachss fan as well. I didn't know that about you, Clayton!I'm a few books behind in both series', I think. *sigh*
So much good stuff to read, so little time. :(
Kealan wrote: "Thanks Jennifer! I envy you your first read of THE FIVE!"Are you talking about the five by Robert McCammon?
I have had that one sitting on my shelf since first day it came out. Not sure why it keeps being pushed back. Sounds like you highly recommend this one. I love Robert.
everything I have read by him has been great BOYS LIFE is one of my favorites
Jennifer wrote: "everything I have read by him has been great BOYS LIFE is one of my favorites"Swan song ams wolfs hour. Read all but the five. Need to bump,p that up on the queue

Seriously? I didn't know that!
I agree with Jon, that one- The Hunter from the Woods was incredibly good. And for something from McCammon? That's really saying something. :)
Braunbeck PRODIGAL BLUES my fav
Kealan, I love all the authors including you.In what way did Boy's Life influence the writing of Turtle Boy, if you don't mind my asking? Curious minds want to know. :)
Nice. I remembered times with my father when I read BL, some of them wonderful and some of them not so much. So I can see how it could get you to thinking. :)
Jon Recluse wrote: "Made me wonder about my dad."Guess my upbringing was fairly boring...Dad worked, and we loved every minute we had with him. (Can you tell I was a "Daddy's Girl"?) LOL!
I didn't know that about either of you. My husband was in the same boat as well. I guess the difference is that he is a dad now. Do either of you have kids?
Kealan wrote: "My father vamoosed when I was eight. I didn't realize until a reviewer pointed it out that the entire Timmy Quinn series is, in part, my attempt to decode that incident and its repercussions."That's what happened to my dad. His dad ran out on his family when he was a kid, though in the end it was probably a good thing so he couldn't be an even worse influence as he was a scumbag and thief. My dad isn't perfect, but he is a good father, especially since he had no father figure to draw positive inspiration from.
Even though they were poor white Texas racists, I come from a long line of stable families. :)

I was going to ask that same question. My husband was adopted, but he never cared to find out about his "birth" parents. It was enough to have someone that wanted to raise him.
Villette by Charlotte Brontë. But I just finished Sushi for Beginners. Which I was surprised to have enjoyed. I usually find chick lit boring and cliche.
Bouncing back-and-forth between Edward Lee's City Infernal and Arthur Machen's shorter work. Pretty different extremes, huh?
