What Are You Reading?
Really sad, is what it is. I didn't know the background of The Terror until now. I think I got some spoilers there but that's OK. LOL
Well, you had to guess that some of them weren't going to make it, right? So it's not too much of a spoiler.Plus the story is so well written, it really won't let you go.
I think I have said it before, but it bears repeating:
Those guys were freakin insane!
I agree-but it was the money that convinced them. They made enough money to keep them sitting pretty for a good, long while. And they were led to believe that there WAS a way through the ice; it was just a matter of finding it.
Naturally.Kealan and I are generally always right.
Unless he disagrees with me.
Then I'm still right, only more so, y'know?

The track record for explorers of that time isn't very good to start with. Add to that the possibility of being frozen in the ice for months or years?
No thank you, I will remain poor! : )
Just started Pines and Picking the Bones. Hoping to finish them both before I have to go back to work Monday.
I hope you enjoy Pines, Bill. I would love to hear what you think. Crouch has been a little hit or miss for me.
I'm about 3/4 of the way thru and it is good, but I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Very twisty and I'm not sure where it is going. I'll give you an update when I finish ;)
I am going to read Shaun Allan- SIN next. I have read the sample and it looks amazing. Very interesting main character.
Charlene wrote: "I hope you enjoy Pines, Bill. I would love to hear what you think. Crouch has been a little hit or miss for me."I gave it 3 stars. It was good. I thought it had a real chance at being great, but fell down somewhere along the line. The end threw a twist out there which I don't think was fully realized to its potential.

Yep, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about.
Thanks for letting me know, Bill. : )
So I finally joined the 21st century and bought a Kindle Fire today. Amazon has them for $129 today only, if you enter the code FIREDEAL at checkout. I figure a $200 Kindle for $130 was worth it. And now I have no excuse to not read Kealan's Timmy Quinn series. ;) Merry Christmas to me!
I have a Kindle Keyboard 3G. Then when I checked my points at work a few weeks back, I had a whole big bunch and two Fires were available through the program, so I got the HD with the 7" screen and it came with a cover. I'm still finding my way around it.
I thought the backlighting would hurt my eyes, but I was wrong. It has a 'sepia' tone you can set it to and then I just lowered the brightness and it's working well.
Ah cool! I hope I can figure out how to DL all the Kindle stuff I saved to my computer to the Fire once I get it in. I have a lot of Scott Nicholson's books in my Kindle for PC files plus some classic freebies like Lafcadio Hearn's ghost stories of Japan, China and more.
I noticed there is a Kealan book on sale today, Thirty Miles South Of Dry County is discounted from 3.82 to 2.99.Not that that is a big discount, but it's a discount.
: )
I'm still waiting for the copy of Ash I ordered from the library, so I picked up Night Has a Thousand Eyes and Bad Things
I needed to get some writing business squared away today, but I started reading The Memory Tree by John R. Little. Didn't mean to read more than the first chapter or so. But damn, I'm at 90% complete, and I'm only typing this because I needed a moment to breathe. It's my first Little. The guy can flat-out write.

What gets me is that you never hear about those books.WTF?
It's just more of the same from the same bunch of tired old has beens on the NYT Bestsellers List.
WTF?
Wow! 35 ratings and it comes in at a 4.49 average. That's pretty good! Why haven't I heard of this guy before?
Finished KIN, and I am still blown away. Great novel, Kealan. Thanks for writing it! I think I might check out THE MEMORY TREE next. I might never have heard of it if not for this thread. It does sound promising.
Soon I shall have my Kindle and go crazy uploading all kinds of novels you all recommend until I have more than I could ever possibly read in a lifetime but I won't care because HE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST BOOKS WINS. ;)

OK? : )"
Okay. :)

I just thought from the facial expressions that the men all looked so damn cold.
