While it's not listed as horror but literature, I would recommend giving Lamb by Bonnie Nadzam a read. There was a creepy sense of danger on every page, and the writing is lyrical. Lamb

So noted. Thanks to you both!Seriously though, one has to be in the right kind of mood for this stuff. I came down with a nasty head/chest thing yesterday and when I got home from work I picked up The Road where I left off.
About 5 minutes later I was considering suicide.
Thanks, Jon. I will admit that it's very well written. Though I'm not sure what the guy has against commas or quotation marks.
??
I don't blame you. I'm sorry if it sounded like I did.I'm sort of regretting reading it at this time, but I think I will go ahead and finish it, because if I put it down, I don't see myself picking it up ever again. : )
You didn't. :)I know what you mean. I would probably finish it, too, so I wouldn't have to do it again.
It took me multiple attempts to get into THE ROAD, and Cormac McCarthy in general. Ultimately, I'm really glad I did.I was having the same down in the dumps feelings about it, so I decided to take a break and read King's FULL DARK, NO STARS midway through. Yeah, great choice for a pick me up :)

LOL Chris, that's a dark collection! I loved it though, and I rank it up there with some of King's best work.
I read Saturday Night at Eddie's and gave it 4*. I read Greg Gifune's Ushers of Darkness and gave that 4* as well. I also read The Boy in the Lot by Ronald Malfi (short story) and gave it 3*.Now I'm reading Trinity.
Well, it's officially "Charlie's Season", so what are we reading during this most wonderful time of the year?
I just downloaded ITTG on my Nook. It better be better than A Face In The Crowd, his last short story. That one sucked.
The baseball stuff wasn't the problem. It was just a lame story, period. Below King's standards for short stories, which is pretty high. It read like he had a deadline to meet.
I agree about A Face in the Crowd. There might have been a good idea in there somewhere but it died pretty early in the story. It was as exciting as a rain delay. In the Tall Grass was disturbing and good. I agree with you Kealan. It reminded me of the stories from Skeleton Crew.
Kealan wrote: "Yeah, it was a nice surprise. MILE 81, was not."Mile 81 was better than Face, but it wasn't anything special.
I'm really enjoying the first ghost novel in Three In The Morning (Three Complete Supernatural Novels) Kindle Edition by Noel Hynd.
I am reading Lehane's "Live at Night" and loving it. It reminds me of Doctorow's "Billy Bathgate" or those great Albany books by Kennedy "Legs" and "Billy Phelan's Greatest Game." I really enjoy stories about mobsters from the 20's and 30's and this story is riveting. I need to read the rest of Lehane's books.
Mile 81 was only better than Face because at least something happened in that story. I didn't like either one of them.

Kealan: I know. And it works.
Jon Recluse wrote: "Which novel?"The first novel in the book is Cemetary of Angels. That's the one I'm reading now. IT also includes 2 more" The Prodigy" and "A Room for the Dead". The author states that the stories go from light to extremely dark. So I guess Cemetary of Angels is thought to be light, but it's very spooky to me so far!

The Long Night of the Grave
The Soft Whisper Of The Dead
I still can't get her first one. It's on hold at the library till half past never.
Y'know, I would swear someone is editing my posts.....
