What Are You Reading?
Charlene wrote: "Pretty good. Thanks for asking!Dennis Lehane's new book is due out. Nemesis is about to come out. My favorite Irish writers are doing pretty good so that makes me happy. : )"
All we need is a new John Connolly for the trifecta....
Charlene wrote: "and his willingness to kill off just about anyone!Chris, you must have also read Endurance then, right?
You don't feel that at heart, these are basically the same books?"
This is my first go round with Martin, but I've heard that a lot, that his characters often die. I think that's a vital element missing from many modern books, especially any series involving action. If there's no danger of the character dying, it's pretty boring.
Yeah, TRAPPED and ENDURANCE were similar, but not really any more so than most other things in the genre. Both are the people stuck in an awkward situation dealing with a psychopath story line. I like Konrath's stuff because it's super quick and always entertaining.
Jon Recluse wrote: "I hated that book. Kilborn is just into overkill.
I'm between books right now, dealing with a fever and trying to do my 31 Books For Halloween list."
Feel better soon, Jon! :)
Kealan wrote: "It goes great, Charlene, especially now that the two-week horror flu is out of my system! How are things with you?"Jeez am I glad I don't live near you guys! Just got my flu shot today but I'm betting you won't be needed one now, eh, Kealan? Looks like your immune system took care of that all on its own. My friggin' arm hurts like hell but I'll take that over a 2 week flu any day. Glad you're feeling better!

Thanks, Sharon!

Thanks, Kealan.
Luckily, my only symptoms are 103 degree fever related.
The nightmares have been fun, though.

Hey Jon, maybe you can write a book based on your nightmares! I know I was shopping for a movie deal when I took Chantix to quit smoking. That shit gives you crazy freaking dreams!

I'ed get sued. I keep winding up in Oxrun Station, talking to Abe Stockton.
Mine too -- or rather, my left shoulder. I think I was going too low on parallel bar dips last night and strained it good. It woke me up several times last night and on and off has been hurting like crazy today. I should have known better.
Just finished Hissers by Ryan C Thomas - enjoyed it alot - some great characters with a nice twist.Currently reading Draculas. I am enjoying it so far.
Hi Jon!I've been hiding under a rock lately, but I've still been lurking, occasionally peeking out from below.
How's it going?
I recently got over a lingering fever, 3-4 weeks back. I had a 102 fever for basically two weeks. It sucked. Be well, Jon. Hope you feel better.
You are still fighting a fever, Jon? Hope you feel better soon. Everybody go get flu shots! It looks like this year might be a bad season.
I finished Kilborn's Trapped. Meh. I started on Ania Ahlborn's newest"The Neighbors."
(Stupid link thingy isn't working).
Finished Malmborg's Scraping the Bone. Solid, creepy collection, as well as Gifune's Ushers of Darkness, which was pretty good as well.
I saw that, Recluse. I need to finish the RJ series. Glen, maybe I will try to sneak it in over the weekend.
I finished The Neighbors by Ania Ahlborn. It was pretty good, but not horror. I would call it a thriller. I gave it 4*.I started on The Risen by Jan Strnad and my library book came in, so I will finally be reading The Road.
Kealan wrote: "Hard to say. THE ROAD is on my all-time favorite list, but plenty of folks hated it, primarily for the writing style. McCarthy takes a bit of getting used to."Had me at the hardware store, trying out ropes......
Christine wrote: "What's that book about?"It's about a man and his son surviving some apocalyptic disaster (they never say what, but a barren landscape leads one to believe it was nuclear in origin)and trying to get someplace safe. They travel the roads, heading south, in the hope that there is a brighter future ahead of them.
Kealan wrote: "Hard to say. THE ROAD is on my all-time favorite list, but plenty of folks hated it, primarily for the writing style. McCarthy takes a bit of getting used to."I think reading NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN first is a good idea. Same style, but a little more colorful.
I'm going to be even more impossible to live with until I hear your thoughts, if that's possible....
Just started reading
. I loved Unwind as it was an exciting YA novel. Hoping this matches and if I am very lucky - by pass the original.
geezz where do all of you find the time? im still on SPEAKS THE NIGHTBIRD by mccammon, with the other three tom corbett books on deck, then maybe BOYS LIFE which is on the shelf too, followed by a trilogy by BLAKE CROUCH, followed by THE TWELVE by justin cronin am i among the few here that loved THE PASSAGE? in between all those im going to catch up on my cemetery dance novellas and Joe Hills locke and key graphic novels. i recently moved and started a new full time job, and im painting again. time to rebuild my portfolio. and i want to clear the shelf before JOYLAND comes out in june next year. oh, and im three books behind with repairman jack! might have to reread the entire series or at least go back to BLOODLINES and start over.
I think you are among the few that loved The Passage. I thought it was ok, but not great. I finished Strnad's Risen: A Supernatural Thriller and I liked it.
I'm about 20% intoThe Road
