I agree Darren's writing has matured nicely. So has his use of grammar. ;)He doesn't 'sat there' nor 'stood there' anymore. At least not if I can help it!
I'm glad his zany sense of humour is still there!

We're gradually knocking it out of him!
Finished Telegraph Avenue, which was great, and simultaneously reading The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France: Doping, Cover-ups, and Winning at All Costs (first non-fiction book I've read in a long, long time!) and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Catalina wrote: "at the moment i am reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close..only read the first chapter but it looks really promising...this will be my second book my Foer and i am sure it won't be a bad choice..."I loved that book, i read it about a month ago and didn't want it to end.
I've finished reading
by Liane Moriarty. I really loved this novel! The plot was very intriguing, compelling and well-written with an interesting and unique premise. I loved the author's writing style. The story was very funny and some parts were quite touching and made me want to cry. The characters were all well-developed, vivid and believable. I found it easy to relate to Alice and the other characters. I was unable to put this book down for long. I was desperate to find out what was going to happen next! I gave it 5 stars! My full view is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Now I'm about to start
by Kate Alcott.
Just finished the twilight series...*sigh*
Started The Mysterious Affair At Styles for this years challenge :o)
Just finished Fuel to the Fire by David Staniforth. Fantasy - a really good idea and a good story - if he'd given it another edit it would have been great. Personal names sometimes start with a small letter and one character's name changed (slightly - Kail to Kale) in the middle. Such a shame to spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar.Just started State of Wonder by Ann Pratchett for our village book club. Good so far - 6% in.

Just finished The Prophet for the millionth time. Still beautiful in every degree. Review to follow. And just started...gulp...Ulysses

LOL
I am so glad to hear that.
Do we have any Twilight fans in the group?
Maybe a new thread needed!
Stuart wrote: "Just finished The Prophet for the millionth time. Still beautiful in every degree. Review to follow. And just started...gulp...Ulysses"That was my challenge last year. Never cracked open page 1 even. However I did read
instead
8% in and find it fantastic!!!! I guess it's just come along at the right time for me. A little like Charles Dickens in terms of the fact I tried for years to read his books but last year I cracked it. This could be my Joyce year. In which case I will probably end it even further under the table than I generally am...
I am pleased to announce that I have finished The Dead Girls' Dance - Rachel Caine. Now to going to read A Cold Day For Murder - Dana Stabenow.
Stuart wrote: "8% in and find it fantastic!!!! I guess it's just come along at the right time for me. A little like Charles Dickens in terms of the fact I tried for years to read his books but last year I cracked..."don't get too cocky or you'll have to read Finnegans Wake
I just started The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh and, so far, I'm completely entranced. It's about an 18-year-old girl who was abandoned at birth and suffered through a dreadful childhood. But her one passion-- and perhaps saving grace-- is her fascination with flowers and the folkloric meanings attached to them. The writing is wonderful, and the story-- at least so far-- is engrossing.
just finished Dead Until Dark not sure what to start next - may carry on with the next 2 in the omnibus i have of this!
Just finished Billy Christmas. Still going on Life of Pi (loved the film, but the book is turning out to be a bit of a trudge...)
Just finished The Etymologicon: A Circular Stroll through the Hidden Connections of the English Language and am starting The Horologicon: A Day's Jaunt Through the Lost Words of the English Language. After that I'm probably due some fiction.
I just finished The Blog of Maisy Malone. I started it yesterday. It's written as a blog throughout the year with comments after each day. Maisy is a 17 year old girl. It was very readable once you got the hang of the writing style. The other book like that that I've read recently is This Thirtysomething Life. I think I preferred this one. Maybe because I am female.
D.M. Andrews (GoodReads Author) wrote: "I'm reading The Hobbit again ;)"I'm sure a lot of people are :o)
I read it just to clarify that there was no stupid pale orc storyline in the book. That ruined the movie for me.
Just finished The Blinding KnifeAnd just started The Perks of Being a Wallflower
The blinding knife is the second book it he Lightbringer series. it was brilliant!
I've read quite a bit lately but not updated here.
Dancing In The Moonlight and The Big Five-OH! for my reading challenge. Neither was that good, I really enjoyed the Big Five-oh to start with but then the story really dragged.
Read some more recent buys then:-
Molly: Edwardian Candlelight 2 and Ginny: Edwardian Candlelight 3, both funny and well-written. I loved Ginny to start with, the way she drove everyone around in circles was hilarious, but I thought that it lost it's charm half way through.
Just finished read Escape to the Country and loved it!

Loved the movie version of Perks. Be interested to know what the book is like...
I finished The Secret Adversary and I am going to finish Charles Dickens: A Life before I start anything else. Just thought of a news years resolution; finish Grimms fairytales
Finished Never Buried,an easy read and still free http://www.amazon.co.uk/Never-Buried-... good enough to make me want to read the next one.Started No Escape.
If we get a snow day, perhaps I'll finally be able to finish that Margret Atwood I started ages ago.Or not. This flat is still upside down.
The Blind Assassin. It's really good. Think I've got about 10% left. Perhaps I'll be able to finish it tonight,
Just finished Old Man's War by John Scalzi. Awesome. Reminds me of Heinlein's Starship Troopers, but with old people. Will definitely read the rest of the series.
