Hehe, Kay, I also have some handwarmers and a scarf ;) I'm scribbling away as we speak... well, sort of.Hope hubby has forgiven you, Sarah :)
Just finished Hand For A Hand which was not a bad read, again a local whodunnit. I like recognising places. Next is 1929 a book about the depression set in America. So far so good.
My son and wife and 3 grandchildren visited last night and as much as I love to see them they did stop me from reading The Third Rule-Part 2 however I did finish it and now onto The Third Rule-Part Three:Sacrifices, what am I going to read after such brilliant writing, well off to do some now
I've just finished Road Closed - Leigh Russell and now thinking of reading Chasing Amanda - Melissa Foster.
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "I've just finished Road Closed - Leigh Russell and now thinking of reading Chasing Amanda - Melissa Foster."what did you think of the Leigh Russell?
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "It's her 2nd book I've read this year. Wasn't too bad. The characters were ok.Have you read any?"
no, I hear her speak at our writers' group. She read out a section I think from that book, but can't remember now.
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "What did you think of her? Was she nice? Would you read her books?"she was very impressive, very driven, but I think the fact that I haven't read any of her books probably answers your question :-)
I've finished reading
by Kate Morton today. I thought it was beautifully written with just enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested. It was obviously very well researched - I loved the WW2 bits. Those scenes were so vivid that I felt I was actually there! I found the pace of the novel, especially in the first half, to be rather slow. I thought the author spent too much time describing the various settings in the novel. It got really tiresome in places but the pace does pick up again in the second half. I loved the ending! The twist at the end completely surprised me. I wasn't expecting that! I'm usually quite good at predicting what's going to happen next in novels but that twist was a huge surprise! http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Now I'm a couple of chapters into
by Karen Kingsbury.

I wouldn't rave about her books as much. Took me 10 months to read the 1st and 2nd books x
Mo wrote: "Just finished The Expats which was a change of genre for me as I am not into spy stories but this one was not bad. Now on TF Muir's second book Hand For A Hand set in St Andrews."I'm 78% of the way through The Expats and the shifting timeline is driving me up the wall - why, why, WHY?
Couldn't he have told it straight, in a linear form? Or would that just reveal it to be a bit dull? Jury still out on this one, but I will finish it.
I've just finished it http://www.amazon.com/crossing-drops-... and start it again :). Because there are a lot of moments inpressed me and made me think... Very good book!
I just finished Unseen Academicals and started I Shall Wear Midnight (Discworld, #38). It's my last discworld book that I have!
I've started reading 3 books and am flicking through themI started reading Stealing Elgar by Andrew Barrett but then remembered I had to read This thirtysomething life: A Diary by Jon Rance as it's the kuf book club choice for this month, but I had a peek at the sample for Ice Diaries and got drawn in, but I shan't read that until I've finished the other 2.
I'm more drawn to Andy's evilness than Jon's fluffiness lol, but I'd like a bit of snow.
Just finished The Swimmer. Not right impressed. Shallow characters and terrible quality writing. I've written a review but I'll sleep on it. I find negative reviews hard to write.
I really enjoyed The Swimmer Ignite! Guess that doesn't say much for my appreciation of 'good writing';@)!
At least it proves to the world that you and I aren't the same person with two accounts Sarah! We do tend to love a lot of the same stuff. ;)
Just finished '10 ways to kill a cupid' by Leigh Parker (no relation!) and absolutely loved it! A real gem, for sure. One of the best books I've read for a while - laughs, romance, twists and shocks.
More like that, please!
Just finished typing a post and its disappeared, did on iPad and for some reason it disappeared so will do on computer tomorrow
Just finished The Blood Detective - genealogy and murder. Enjoyed it, especially the main character, Nigel. Now off to read The Impossible Dead so I can get it 'out of the way' before I start on the new Rebus!
Marc wrote: "Ignite wrote: "Just finished The Swimmer. ... Shallow"see what you did there Ignite?"
I didn't till you mentioned it - the Paddler, mebbe?
Kay (Golden Girl) wrote: "Just finished typing a post and its disappeared, did on iPad and for some reason it disappeared so will do on computer tomorrow"Oh, I hate it when that happens. Especially when it's a long and considered email - and I know I'll never get so well into the flow a second time.
John wrote: "I've just finished it http://www.amazon.com/crossing-drops-... and start it again :). Because there are a lot of ..."Hm... I want to read it. Because a lot of people recommend this book.
Philip (sarah) wrote: "I really enjoyed The Swimmer Ignite! Guess that doesn't say much for my appreciation of 'good writing';@)!"What do you enjoy in this book?
Just about to start (although I'm pre- pub reading Steve R's third book - must take precedence) Will Macmillan Jones' second Banned Underground book - The Mystic AccountantsBeen looking forward to this one.
Bobby wrote: "Philip (sarah) wrote: "I really enjoyed The Swimmer Ignite! Guess that doesn't say much for my appreciation of 'good writing';@)!"What do you enjoy in this book?"
I liked the two main characters and felt they had a good 'chemistry' between them.I also found the descriptions of Cornwall just as I have always imagined them in my mind ie moody and atmospheric. It's a place I long to visit.
The plot had a touch of history, mystery and murder so a winner for me.Yes there were some errors but not enough to spoil the book for me.
Ignite wrote: "At least it proves to the world that you and I aren't the same person with two accounts Sarah! We do tend to love a lot of the same stuff. ;)"Ah but it could just be a smokescreen Ignite!
Read A Dog With A Destiny by Isabel George about a wee Yorkshire Terrier caught up in the fight against Japan. It was excellent. Then read a short by Sophie Kinsella called Six Geese a-Laying which I didn't rate much.
Now reading and loving The Kindness of Strangers:Penniless Across America by Michael McIntyre which I got for free recently.Terrific heart warming and life affirming.
i don't usually post my just finished/started books, but being as this one is my 200th of the year, i thought i would...just finished
just started
i am going through a football (auto)biography phase - following one about a footballer who went inside for drug related offences with one about a footballer who sadly took his own life.
Marc wrote: "is that the one about the German Goalkeeper? Supposed to be a brilliant, if sad read"yes it is. i posted my reasons for why this book and why now in my challenge thread!

and how are you finding it?
I keep starting books and not finishing them. Not that I don't want to, but I can't concentrate on one when I want to read the other ones.
Just started Creepy Christmas and even though it's aimed at (older?) 8 year olds, I'm enjoying it.
Finished The Kindness Of Strangers by Michael McIntyre.Terrific read.
Still considering my next choice.
Philip (sarah) wrote: "Finished The Kindness Of Strangers by Michael McIntyre.Terrific read.

was it funny? I find comedians in books doesn't really work very well. I bought Peter Kay's book as it was selling so well and I like him, but found it a dull read
JF >> When the Siren Calls.. a compelling read on how we live now, or how some go getting Surryites rolling in money and sex live. The writing is excellent, the story-telling is excellent with plenty of twists. But what to read next? PM me .. I am open to ideas. And I review all I read.

Different Michael McIntyre Marc! This is an american Journalist who made his way right across America with no money relying only on 'The Kindness Of Strangers'.
He says he never felt richer! He wanted to find out if America was afraid of strangers but found instead that strangers were afraid of America.Very inspirational.
Started and finished Journey To Ki:Highest Monastery in the World by Simon Worrall. I love how I can travel the world without leaving my armchair!
I just finished I Shall Wear Midnight (Discworld, #38), that's the last of my Discworld books that I have. My challenge is complete :o)
