'Blackened Cottage' sounds a great read, Sarah. Will go and add it to my TBR pile.
finished The Dead Yard: A Story of Modern JamaicaStarted really well, but then just went around in circles. Will post short review on GR later this eve.
Not sure what's up next. Publishing my own novel next week, so maybe too busy with that to read much
Finished Dodger by Terry PratchettIt's basically Dickens meets Shakespeare in Love. Only gave it 3 stars which, I think is the lowest score I've ever given a Pratchett. It's very much a vanity project and it shows. Sadly I think the man is losing his touch.

Unlike some authors though, he does have a pretty good excuse.
And it was a particularly brilliant touch that he had to lose. Sad.Edit - I think Himself has just finished this - must ask what he thought.
I finished reading Lance's Travels - Does Cornwall this morning and found it to be very interesting.
Now I'm going to read Don't Run, Whatever You Do: My Adventures As A Safari Guide, I've read another book of his, which I enjoyed, so expect to like this one too.

Haven't been able to read much so far this month, but finished this last night[[ASIN:B00695SL8I Shock Totem: Holiday Tales of the Macabre and Twisted 2011]]. Now dipping into [[ASIN:B0069E851C Ghost Stories From Beyond The Grave: Book Three]] until Sun, when I am going to read [[ASIN:B005H7AZQ0 A Dish Best Served Cold (A Supernatural Thriller)]]
Struggling to read at all, at the moment have three books on the go and getting nowhere!nothing is keeping my interest at all. Phewey!...
Sometimes you go through phases like that Pat. Have you thought of trying a genre you've not tried before? (Mind you, then you might find out for sure why you were never tempted to try it!)
I just finished Hush and am now reading The Railway Man really enjoyed Hush and also really like The Railway Man

Get it now or wait till the weekend it is free then, but get it! you will enjoy each and every page as the story unfolds to the final climax. I loved it!
Earlier, I finished reading
by Shirley Jackson. I was disappointed by this book to be honest. I felt the novel did not live up to the reputation it has gotten. I just felt like it was missing something. Plus I disliked all the characters and the strange dialogue between them really annoyed me. This is one novel where the movie, or in this case movies, are better than the book. My full review is here.Next I'm going to read
by Anne Rice.
Have at last finished The Red House Mystery, a competent Agatha Christie-like story, with not a heffalump in sight. Also started but couldn't be bothered to finish Hilda Hopkins, Murder She Knit, nice idea but just not engaging enough. Not sure what I feel like reading next so am working my way through the samples I've accumulated.
Read Mohan,s harrowing true story A Child Lost in Flight: Moving on After Tragedy on Flight 229Started and finished The Beach a very thought provoking read.I loved it.Still free today.
Also read Fifty/Fifty and Other stories by Matthew W.McFarland.A collection of eclectic, well drawn short stories.
I'm not up to much at the mo as I'm not feeling well, but am doing lots of kindle reading! I'm working through quite a bit of my TBR list though!
Read Whatever You Do, Don't Run: True Tales of a Botswana Safari Guide which made me laugh.
Read Another Alice: An Inspiring True Story Of A Young Woman's Battle To Overcome Rheumatoid Arthritis which made me cry.
Am just over half way through The Elephant Whisperer which is fascinating. All the above were bought in sales or daily deal offers. Money well spent!

Started and finished This thirtysomething life: A Diary following Kath's recommendation. Loved it! Had some real laugh out loud moments and a wee cry as well. Then read Buried a tense, claustrophobic thriller. Just a short but has tempted me to look at more of his work.
Just started A Dish Best Served Cold and am enjoying it, along with some good music and a cat on my knee
Just finished
, which I really did enjoy, although not as much as her other book
Richard Wilde.Just started a blast from my past:
:) I am working my way through the whole series and loving them all over again.
I re-read the Anne books three or four years ago - as well as some other childhood classics like Noel Streatfeild, Susan Coolidge and E Nebit - thoroughly enjoyed myself!

Just read a novella by the wonderfully funny Paul Fenton. It's not on here but the Amazon link is http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Spanner-A...
All his books are - only the 3 so far, but he makes me laugh so much I hurt! Especially some bits in Cellar Door. I caused consternation on a railway station by guffawing at that!
Just finishedThe Railway Man
Started The Half-life of Hannah
The Railway man I enjoyed but horrified about treatment of POWs at the hands of Japanese ,true story which I believe is going to be made into a film
Just finished The Virgin Suicides, A fantastic book. Beautifully written, unique style and narrative device, haunting, touching, somehow inclusive and very, very real.Started The Fault in Our Stars

The film of The Virgin Suicides is haunting as well. Although the book is better, of course.

Apocalypse Now is better than Conrad's "Heart Of Darkness" but may not count as a true film adaptation, more an interpretation.
Yet again enjoying Words to the Wiseseries! To keep up with my reading challenge filling in with some shorter books today read Jack MacFadden and the Faerie Realm a well written piece of escapism.
Started Alphabet Killer: The True Story of the Double Initial Murders
I finished Service of the Heir and have started An Abandoned Woman. I'm really enjoying this series :o)
Marc wrote: "Apocalypse Now is better than Conrad's "Heart Of Darkness" but may not count as a true film adaptation, more an interpretation. "I'm sorry but I have to disagree! Whilst I love Apocalypse Now, Heart of Darkness is an absolute masterpiece. The opening scene on the Thames is a study in atmosphere, and the narrative within a narrative is used to such good effect. All the things which make Apocalypse Now such a good movie (suspense, fear, tension and the descent into madness) are all present in the book.
I have to admit I found Heart of Darkness almost unreadable. I read it for our village book group or i wouldn't have persisted. Maybe I'm a moron!
