Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I just finished The Great Rock N Roll Doomsday Tour which was brilliant, I recommend it if you enjoy a book with a silly sense of humour. I have just started Pyramids to carry on with my own self-challenge :o)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson - much funnier than I remembered it (re-reading for the village book group).
Still reading The Survival of Thomas Ford by John A A Logan (one of 'ours' so it adds to my 'our authors' challenge.

Anita | 3313 comments How many of "our authors" have you read now Ignite?

message 1904: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished
There's Always Tomorrowi enjoyed this.
Have now started Gray Justice
This is shaping up good so far, having a struggle to put this one down, do wish things would stop getting in the way of my reading :)

message 1905: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Duff (thrillwriter) | 38 comments Just finished Run by Jeff Abbott. I was expecting a fugitive-type chase thriller in the vein of Dean Koontz. But I got a rather disjointed CIA conspiracy thriller with uneven writing and some confusion as to who the main protagonist was.

Just starting Ten-Second Staircase, the fourth in the Bryant and May series by Christopher Fowler. It's already making me grin.

I really must count up Anita. I promise only to count each book once. There are several I have read more than once - and not just Mr Harker's!

message 1907: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments I've just finished The Crossing Places which was a really good read, although the present tense narrative is a tad off putting. Can't see the point. It doesn't add anything, quite the reverse. And you do have to suspend disbelief to accept the plotline a bit!
Next on my TBR pile is Ready Steady Dig , looking forward to getting back into the garden!

message 1908: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Ready, Steady, Dig is wonderful Karen. Lovely sense of humour throughout. It was one of my favourite reads from last year - and its sequel too, the wonderfully named Gnome or MR Nice Guy. Delightful!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I loved those two books as well.

message 1910: by Lorraine (new)

message 1913: by Scott (new)

Scott Collins | 34 comments Just wrapped up Foxy's Tale and now digging in to Chop Suey. I'm enjoying it thus far, though the author has a strange sense of humor.

message 1914: by Kath (last edited Feb 23, 2012 08:43AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished John A A Logan's fantastic The Survival of Thomas Ford. It was really enigmatic in some ways - almost verging on the supernatural but I'm still wondering. A very thought provoking but exciting read. It took me 15 minutes to put the thing down at lunchtime!

Just about to start Nell Grey's Solitary Pleasures.

message 1915: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I finished Rachel Abbott's Only the Innocent and highly recommend it. Truly gripping thriller. It deserves it's number one status.

I'm going to dip in and out of Shaun's The Mutilation Machination today.

message 1921: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Oh dear, have had to give up on Ready Steady Dig just a few chapters in... really don't like 'cutesy'

But I'm really enjoying The Crow Trap - it's been on my TBR pile for ages! so glad I've got to it.

message 1922: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh I loved it Karen. Still, if we all liked the same some of us would be killed in the rush!

message 1923: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Interesting tho - hve just been posting in the review section - I couldn't even give the book 1 star cos I couldn't finish it, yet I'm aware there is nothing
'wrong' with the writing style. It's just subjective. Crow Trap, however, is definitely more my cup of tea so will prob get a 3 star. Which is not to say that one book is 'better' than the other one.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12619 comments I finished Cross Country earlier, wasn't looking forward to it and it wasn't one of his best. Am reading Alex Cross's Trial next but it is a co written book so not looking forward to that either.

message 1926: by Vic (new)

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments I have just finished both "The Devil Rides Out" by Dennis Wheatley and "Gray Justice", by Alan McDermott. And I have to announce that we have yet another brilliant new writer who is a member of this forum.

A most excellent book.

I think my reading may take a bit of a back seat for a while when I get home. I decided yesterday not only to publish "Vic's Big Walk" in paperback form (to add to the Kindle and other e-versions), but to publish 3 more books in the next 12 months. They are all virtually written (one I had completely forgotten about until yesterday) but will still need a lot of work.

As Dave's gone off to watch the rugby and I have a quiet house, I'm going to snuggle in to A Cleansing of Souls and wallow in what I'm expecting to be magic prose.

Still to decide my next choice.

message 1939: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't visited this thread for a while so have some catching up to do! Read a few by our authors for my challenge, Mountain Laurel (Silhouette Romance, #720) by Donna Clayton , A Bottle of Plonk by Jacquelynn Luben , An Accidental Family by Donna Fasano and Orlando's Gift by Katie W. Stewart - all of which I enjoyed. I also read my first book by Talli Roland - Miracle at the Museum of Broken Hearts by Talli Roland which I also enjoyed. Then I read a load of free romances, some of which have been on my kindle for a while - none of which were memorable or worth recommending. I'm full of cold at the mo so can't concentrate on much but am reading a lot as I can't do much else (won't be writing reviews until I can think straight again though). Today I read Ready Steady Dig by Rosalind Winter and loved it. Karen and Ignite's comments about it reminded me that I've been meaning to read it for ages (Karen found it too "cutesy" but that doesn't bother me and is ideal reading for my mood at the mo!) It made me laugh out loud at times and I really enjoyed it. I have the next in the series on my kindle but will read something else first I think. Probably read some more of Bob's Tales From the Glades of Ballymore by Bob Brooks as it looks good, but I wasn't in the mood for it earlier...

:0)

That's a really interesting comment, Karen - the mood thing. Cos I had downloaded the sample of 'Ready Steady Dig' ages ago and THEN bought it... and as you say about the Bob Brookes title, you weren't 'in the mood for it earlier' - it's also a mood thing. And maybe if I'd read the book at the same time I bought it...
And it's pretty much the same from a writing perspective - mood swings... Maybe someone shd do an analysis of literary output to chocolate input. Do we write better/enjoy reading more in correlation with the calorie input? Think there must be a thesis in there somewhere...
and I am still enjoying 'Crow Trap'

I'm definately influenced by my mood when I choose to read something. I'd be very interesting in volunteering to do the chocolate study - hopefully you will provide the chocolate...?

also read some short stories including
Four Short Stories by Shelagh Watkins and Orlando's Gift by Katie W. Stewart
I have the sample of Solitary Pleasures by Nell Grey to read & see if I want to read more, but I fancy some light reading for this grey looking Sunday (after I have walked the dog) so I might read. Gnome or MR Nice Guy by Rosalind Winter

Perhaps we should ask Cadburys to sponsor a serious research project on this.

And I have now finished the Crow Trap and a jolly good read it was too. Good characters, lovely setting and a tight-knit plot. And a very different detective in Vera Stanhope.
Have at last started The Company of Fellows which has been languishing on my TBR pile for far too long. So far it's a really good read and not too many typos.

I am sure you will have read loads more than I have. I am afraid my challange has gone to pot a bit whith everything going on, I must try to have a count up & see.

message 1949: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just finished reading two books (not at the same time!)

Paw Tracks In The Moonlight which was in the daily deal and was a pleasant read. Then I read Gnome or MR Nice Guy which I enjoyed but not as much as the first in the series, Ready Steady Dig. I'm dipping in and out of things at the mo as I can't settle on something to read properly. I've been in bed the last couple of days with cold virus which has turned chesty. So I'm only reading light hearted things at the mo.

Anita | 3313 comments Sorry to hear you are not well Karen, hope you will be better soon.
I have just finished The calling of the Grave by Simon Beckett. He is a local author that I first heard on radio Sheffield before his work was published. I have really enjoyed all his books & I think he just gets better & better.
