Judith Starkston | 27 comments I've recently finished books by two authors I particularly like, Jacqueline Winspear's Elegy for Eddie and Kate Quinn's Empress of the Seven Hills. Worlds apart in time--Winspear's is set in London between the World Wars and Quinn's travels across the Roman Empire while Trajan was emperor. I loved them both and recommend them. My review of Elegy for Eddie and my review of Empress of the Seven Hills.

Nell Grey (nellgrey) | 212 comments Just finished Utz - an unusual hybrid of biography and fiction (still not sure what's true and what isn't), and started Vic's Big Walk: From SW France to NW England. I'm about half way through and enjoying the easy mix of journal, history and anecdote.

Phillip(sarah) wrote: Currently reading Solitary Pleasures by Nell Grey and I am just loving it!
Sorry re links but they don't want to appear for me today.

Seems to be OK now - here it is for anyone vaguely tempted - thanks, Sarah :) Solitary Pleasures

message 1860: by [deleted user] (new)

I've finished reading another Donna Fasano book - Taking Love In Stride - I've enjoyed all of her books so far - nice romances with plenty of feeling and likeable characters. Then I skip read a couple because they weren't that well written - Lucien's Fall and A Hint of Rapture then read Wild Angel by the same author who wrote Hint of Rapture but was a better story I thought - but everything works out a bit too easily.. but sometimes I skip through stuff like that when I don't want to think about much.

:0)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Have at last finished The Kashmir Shawl - there are a lot of good points, the research (political and geographical) is well done and makes for an authentic feel. Just couldn't really care enough about the people - which in a book this length was rather a struggle. So, quite liked it, but will be glad to get my teeth into something a little fleshier. Next on my list I'm looking forward to reading Pennance by one of our GR authors Clare Ashton

message 1862: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Just finished " Solitary Pleasures" by Nell Grey, I really enjoyed it. "The Somnambulist" by Essie Fox, which was good." Before the Poison" by Peter Robinson, I was disappointed in this book.
"The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern,
"Blood Harvest" by S.J.Bolton
"Bet you can't...Find me" Linda S. Parker,
the last 3 books were exceptionally good, & everyone is getting fed up of me saying "have you read...."
Not sure what I will start reading tonight, not sure what sort of mood I am in.

Thank you Jacquie and Jane for reading my work. I hope you both enjoy it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I finished Double Cross last night, it was OK, but the ending was very disappointing. Am going to start Cross Country next, but dont think I will enjoy it going off the blurb. Am on my last 3 Cross books, I know I am missing 17 and 18, but think I will have a break and read some other authors for a bit before getting them.

Kath | 1233 comments just finished Ian's fantastic Abide With Me and started reading a tree book - eeks - Robert Goddard - Beyond Recall...

Tree book simply cos I can get Goddard books quite easily from charity shops for about a quid or so, and simply can't afford the Kindle price of about a fiver... Don't worry, I am not being disloyal, my Kindle knows the score and understands!!

Well if there's anything I can do (cook for you, eat for you, sleep for you, etc... ) so you can spend the time that you would have otherwise spent on this activities on writing novel 3 , let me know !
I'd offer to go to work for you but I'd mess up though...

Just started John A A Logan's 'The Survival of Thomas Ford.' I'm only 5% in but I'm already gripped. It's going to be a goodie!
