Susan (susielily) | 469 comments Just finished Precious Bones enjoyed it, but the American English was hilarious, although it didn't spoil it for me. Just started Death Comes to Pemberley, which was a special offer on Christmas day, and I've been saving for a special treat!

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments I finished this morning Last Train from Liguria - Christine Dwyer Hickey and now I am reading Office Politics - Sharon Gerlach

Susan "Death Comes to Pemberley" sounded like the worst kind of fanfiction for a moment there. I'm pleasantly surprised it's actually a P.D. James novel. Interesting clash of worlds. Looking forward to hear if it's any good!

Not sure Patti, it was certainly different to what I am used to. The politics was never an issue as I don't normally do politics in a book. Hype wise, never knew what the hype was for the book.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh yeah, it's all over book lists and review sites. Can't say it's catching my interest, though.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments I just thought it was an interesting read that was outside my comfort zone that's all x

message 1809: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I read it and recommended it to my husband who also found it a good read. We don't usually like the same type of book!
The Pemberley one is a local Book Group read for about 3 months time.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Normally I enjoy PD James, but I'm afraid I have found Death Comes to Pemberley to be crushingly dull and have abandoned it at 17%. Will definitely give it another go but so many books, so little time.....

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I started Among the Living

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I finished Mary Mary on Fri and really enjoyed it, could barely put it down. Am now reading Cross and it hasn't hooked me in as well, but not bad and am looking forward to how it unravels.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Did I say I'd just finished Jim's Z14?
It was a real fun read and did me good! You can't beat a laugh and this was wickedly funny in places. You need to be 'into' aliens and cyborgs but if you are it will tickle your fancy no end.

message 1815: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I read A Dog's Life last night, a short story that's appeared on BBC radio. Beautifully written and FREE!

Yep - my fancy was well tickled!

I've just finished listening to The Merry-Go-Round which I enjoyed and now I am about 40% into listening to Solitary Pleasures which I am also enjoying, I'm enjoying finding out about the different characters. I've been busy crocheting all afternoon so have been listening to the books on kindle - it's surprising how I am able to switch off to the robotic voice and get lost in the story.

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Just finished Bang: Memoirs of a Relationship Assassin, I think instead of getting a new book out I will finish The Book Thief first as I've been on it for a month and I'm not even half way yet !

I can't imagine listening to Solitary Pleasures - I need/want a reading Kindle...!

message 1825: by [deleted user] (new)

It takes some getting used to listening to the kindle read! Because of certain health problems I used to have to rest in the afternoons and would often drift off to sleep listening to the kindle - now, thanks to being diagnosed with sleep apnea and having a cpap machine courtesy of the NHS, my life has been transformed and I now stay awake all day!!! However, that early practice came in handy because I can switch off to the metallic sound of the machine and get lost in the story.

I finished Solitary Pleasures yesterday and loved it - I find people interesting, so this book was great in the way that you gradually learned about the different characters and find out the secrets that they have been keeping. I can highly recommend this.

Now, thanks to Elle's reminder, I'm half way through 13 Little Blue Envelopes which I've had on my kindle since April! It's a nice, inspiring little story. I enjoyed the scenes set in London and seeing the city through a foreigners' eyes.

Janey | 46 comments Last night I finally finished Blood Bound. Took a while to read but that's just because life got in the way! Today I started The Doomsday Prophecy book 3 in the Ben Hope series.

message 1828: by Nell (new)

Nell Grey (nellgrey) | 212 comments Thanks for the lovely words, Karen, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I often drift off to sleep listening to the radio - a talking Kindle would be so much better as I'd have more choice. It's great that your life has been transformed - happy reading and listening :)

Jacquie | 99 comments Just finished You Can't Stop Me which I enjoyed and will buy the second in the series. Have just started Secondary Targets.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I've just finished reading Cross. It didn't hook me as well as Mary Mary did, there were some continuity issues and the premise of facing his wife's killer was a let down. The ending was enough to make me read the next one tho

I found it slow to start and a little bit hard to get into. It was well written and I needed to finish it, so I guess it held my interest. I can’t say it was riveting though
A Just Determination

I've given up entirely on Trollope's The Warden. I just can't make myself care!

message 1847: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Read Love Thy Neighbour by Jan Carol.Format issues, spelling mistakes and lack of plot did not make for an enjoyable experience.
Then read As Long As We Both Shall live by Rick Mofina,a short story very originally told to the reader by means of a court transcript, this was spoiled by being just a 'taster' for his subsequent books.
Currently reading Solitary Pleasures by Nell Grey and I am just loving it!
Sorry re links but they don't want to appear for me today.
