Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished Prophet's Prey: My Seven-Year Investigation Into Warren Jeffs and the Fundamentalist Church of Latter-Day Saints by Sam Brower, which was entertaining, but rather too long.

Just started Recursion by Blake Crouch, which I'm really enjoying.

Philip (philipspires) | 11 comments Just finished Musical Portraits Interpretations of Twenty Modern Composers by Paul Rosenfeld and posted a review. It’s refreshing to read criticism from a century ago to remind us all that human beings have always been biased and partial. Following that with Swann’s Way of Marcel Proust. I seem to be stuck in an era. They had a pandemic about that time, I believe.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments I finished The Seven Sisters recommended by my hairdresser - I can understand why she did based on the fact I like the Clifton Chronicles, although this was more romancey, if I stumbled across the others cheap I'd give them a go. Started Endless Night and House at the Corner before my KU offer ends next week

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Don't remember Endless Night. Agatha Christie is a favorite, though. Is it one of her regular detectives?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments No, it is a standalone, finished it last night, still debating what to score it. Started A Yorkshire Vet Through the Seasons think I should get that finished before 12th

message 13758: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Ah. I'll look for it when I see what you thought.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments I decided to give it a 3* Alicia, I tend to favour her series rather than standalone, but if you come across it I would give it a go, I certainly didn't see the twist

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished Recursion by Blake Crouch, which was largely entertaining, but did get repetitive two thirds in.

Just started A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles.

Just started Homeboy

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Finished a few this month, as it is non fiction month so they tend to be shorter books. All Creatures Great and Small must get round to the TV series; Sometimes I sits and thinks - made me wonder if there are plans for more, I only have one left to read and just about to start The Corfu Trilogy - only going to read the first one, just not sure what it is called!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments I have 4 of them Jim, I've read Sometimes I Sits and thinks, Sometimes I Just Sits and Fancy meeting you here, got Lambing, almost live left to read

message 13769: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Wool Gathering by Jim Webster remains :-)

By definition I'm always writing them, I just haven't got round to collecting together another set of blog articles and polishing them :-)

I've got the cover for this one, a nice picture of Billy. I might call it, "Look what the cat dragged in" :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Thanks Jim, didn't see that when I was going through the good reads list, so now purchased

John Prebble can be a bit dry.
I confess that Nigel Tranter is probably the easy way into Scots history :-)

I read them a couple of years ago, I think your review sums it up nicely :-)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, which I really enjoyed, as extremely unlikely as the story was.

Just started Re: Colonised Planet 5, Shikasta by Doris Lessing. Bizarre!

Pretty sure I gave this a go a few years ago and didn't get very far, but I blame myself as I've always struggled with non-fiction.

message 13780: by Theweebarrell (new)

Theweebarrell | 14 comments just finished Blood Family A gripping crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat (D.I Denning and D.S Fisher Book 2) by Graeme Hampton just started The Killer's Girl (Detective Morgan Brookes #2) by Helen Phifer

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Finished my Durrell book, not that similar to the TV series! Now starting my author focus month, Ian Rankin with Rebus: The Early Years: Knots And Crosses, Hide And Seek and Tooth And Nail

message 13782: by Nigel (new)

Nigel Bird (nigelbird) | 167 comments The sad truth for me is that I haven't finished anything. It's likely down to coping with the last nine months with all that has brought to the table. Today, a lovely teaching colleague lent me a copy of Rogue Male which he reckons might break the dam. Hoping so.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Fingers crossed, a lot of people have found reading tricky this year, there is at least one on my challenge I don't even remember reading!

Thanks. I guess our minds have sometimes been elsewhere. Maybe now there's a sense of real hope, the reading fog will lift.

I've just finished a 5-book series called Sovereigns of the Collapse, by Malcolm Wardlaw. Here's the first one:

Death by Decent Society

They are the best books I've ever read by an independent author.

If you're interested in dystopian fiction or political thrillers, I heartily recommend them to you. Here's a link to my review of the first book:

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished SHIKASTA Re: Colonised Planet 5.Canopus In Argos : Archives by Doris Lessing. This was absolute torture. Utterly tedious and devoid of story or characters. Gave up one third of the way in.

Just started The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware for some light relief.
